Walker’s Cay, located near a barrier reef, is the northern most island in the Bahamas. This image features the boat “Isabella” as it is anchored near a dock. The "Isabella" belonged to John Richard Yeend, also known as Captain Jack R. Yeend. During February of 1957, “Isabella” travelled to many of the smaller islands of the Abacos including Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Allen Cay, and Grand Cay. A man is standing on the boat. Robert Fulton (1765-1815) was an American inventor credited with adapting the steam engine for commercial use in boats. He worked with Robert Livingston to provide steamboat service along the Hudson River. The steamboat pictured went into service in 1909, the year of the Hudson-Fulton Celebration which celebrated Henry Hudson’s exploration of the Hudson River and Robert Fulton’s paddle steamer. Steamboat Robert Fulton belonged to the Hudson River Day Line and made its final voyage on September 13, 1948 traveling along the Hudson River from Albany to New York City. In 1959, the steamboat was brought on land to Snake Cay, Abaco, Bahamas where it later housed the offices and apartments for Owens-Illinois Incorporated, a lumber company. Cat Cay refers to two islands in the Bahamas, North Cat Cay and South Cat Cay which is uninhabited. North Cat Cay was purchased in 1931 by Louis Wasey as a private island and is presently (2013) owned by members of the Cat Cay Yacht Club. This image shows a picture of the beach with two small structures: a white cylindrical building with a pyramid shaped roof and the view of the roof of another structure in the distance. Tall grasses and palm trees are growing on the shoreline. This image was featured in William Junior Bryant’s book “Flames of Life: A Pictorial Philosophy,” first published in 1961. Il fut président de la république puis président à vie d'Haïti du 26 octobre 1879 au 10 août 1888. Description : Ministre des finances sous le règne de l'empereur Faustin, Salomon finit par s'écarter de la vie politique après la chute de l'empire en 1859. En 1879, il revient en politique et devient Président. Durant cette période, il est un président immensément populaire. Son gouvernement composé de 28 individus fait encore figure de référence aux Antilles. Mais Salomon est tout de même un chef d'état autoritaire qui passe parfois pour un dictateur, il se sert également durant sa présidence du culte de la personnalité. Salomon est vénéré par la population. Il finit renversé par une révolution en 1888. The following marine turtles have been recorded in the Bahamas: Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, Loggerhead Turtle, Leatherback Turtle, Olive Ridley Turtle, and Kemp’s Ridley Turtle. The Green Turtle is listed (2013) on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened species as endangered. All marine turtles are now fully protected under Bahamian law, including the Green Turtle. Green Turtle meat and cartilage were used to make turtle soup which was once a delicacy in the Bahamian Out Islands. The Abacos are a group of islands and cays in the Bahamas that form a 120-mile-long chain stretching over 650 square miles. Great Abaco is the second largest island in The Bahamas with one third of the country’s population. Many of smaller islands and cays in the area were settled by British Loyalist after the American Revolutionary War. The Abacos are known for their tradition of building boats by hand with Man of War Cay being known as Abacos’ boat-building center. The Abacos’ crest also features a sail boat. This image features boats anchored in the harbor of Man of War Cay. This image was also featured in William Junior Bryant’s book “Flames of Life: A Pictorial Philosophy,” first published in 1961.
