Theodor de Bry Theodor de Bry ( Frankfurt ) Résumé : Drake led a British fleet that sailed to the Caribbean in 1585 and 1586. They captured, plundered, and released for ransom Santiago (Cape Verde Islands), Santo Domingo and Cartagena. They captured, sacked and burned St. Augustine, May 28-30, 1586, and then returned to England. An Italian artist living in London, Baptista Boazio, made engravings of the attacks. Boazio's 1588 view of St. Augustine is the first map of a city north of Mexico City. De Bry reproduced Boazio's maps in Part VIII of the Grand Voyages (Latin in 1599, German in 1600).
