Bryant Foundation, where books, music and art indigenous to the regions were gathered. The are organized by geographical location. In Trinidad and Tobago, carnival celebrations begin after Christmas and peak during the Monday and Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday. Costumed masqueraders and festival revelers partake in the two-day street parade, generally accompanied by soca, calypso, and steel pan music, before beginning the Lenten season. The National Museum and Art Gallery hosts a permanent ongoing exhibit of masks and costumes from past carnivals. The carnival costume, pictured in the center, is made with long and short white feathers and features highlights of black feathers. Gold ornaments decorate the costume which also has a ram’s head near the waist area. The port is the main intake harbor for the country’s cargo business, providing berthing for international container vessels, towage services, container freight services, and warehousing. The Jinnah Memorial Mosque, completed by 1954, was named for the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. The mosque serves as the headquarter for the Trinidad Muslim League, established in 1947. The mosque’s design includes South Asian Islamic architectural elements, for example the main dome is topped with a crescent and star and flanked by two minarets. The mosque is located in the Saint Joseph neighborhood of Port of Spain. In the image, three men are gathered near a bicycle on the side walk in front of the mosque. Slide labeled Trin. 5. In 1965, the Royal Victoria Institute was renamed the National Museum and Art Gallery of Trinidad and Tobago. The museum, established in 1892, was named to commemorate Queen Victoria's jubilee. The original building was designed by Daniel Meinerts Hahn, the Chief Draughtsman of the Public Works in Trinidad. Hahn was also the architect of the Queen’s Royal College. The museum's architectural elements include Dutch gables and slates on the roof. The image shows a man walking by the museum, which also has a dugout canoe in front on display. Slide labeled Trin. 9.
