![]() | Globalizing the Western Balkans: Transnational Crime, Fundamental Islam and Unholy Alliances Auteur(s) : Arsovska, Jana Basha, Dimal Éditeur(s) : Université des Antilles Études caribéennes Résumé : During the last couple of decades, the countries of the world have become increasingly interconnected into a single capitalist economic system. Globalization processes have facilitated the flow of goods and services. They have also led to new forms of exclusion, inequality and “culture conflict”. This paper elaborates on the nexus between transnational organized crime networks, fundamental Islamic movements and terrorist groups in the Balkan region, and argues that these movements for social, political and economic change are bi-products of globalization. After the fall of the Soviet Union, criminal-political formations expanded drastically in the newly emerging Balkan democracies. The weak government structures, the deteriorating domestic economy and the vulnerable government institutions made the Balkan region a safe haven for war profiteers, career criminals and fundamental Islamists. This paper gives a detailed overview of the origin, nature and expansion of several politicized illicit markets in the Balkans. It further elaborates on the birth of fundamental Islamic movements after communism. The complex interrelation between globalization, wars, organized crime and fundamental Islam is at the forefront of this paper. ![]() | Environments Suitable for the Species of the Coffeagenus in Martinique (The case of Coffea Arabica Typica Variety) Auteur(s) : Claude, Jean-Philippe Auteurs secondaires : Biodiversité, Risques Écologiques dans les Territoires Caraïbes Insulaires (BIORECA - UMR ESPECE DEV) ; Université des Antilles (Pôle Martinique) ; Université des Antilles (UA) - Université des Antilles (UA) Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Résumé : International audience A geographic information system (GIS) was developed in Martinique, to perform soil zoning for the revival of the production of Coffea arabica var. typica.Pioneer in the cultivation of coffee in the Caribbean since 1720, today Martinique plays no role in the coffee industry. In addition, due to its rarity on the island, the edapho-climatic requirements of Coffea arabica had to be defined based on the world literature. The digital data (isohyets, isotherm, geomorphology) was obtained from Martinique’s institutions with expertise in the production of environmental data (IRD, IGN, Météo- France, DEAL Martinique, CTM)1. These data have been processed with a SIG software: QGIS version 2.8.1. During the investigations, the rainfall represented a factor limiting any possibility of production of Coffea arabica var. typica in the future. By removing the pluviometry from the set of parameters, we can visualize the areas that might be acceptable to this culture. With the forecast of the National Meteorological services for the 2071-2100 period under the new climate requirements, we carried out an agroclimatic zoning which also showed us the impossibility of producing this coffee in the future. ![]() | "Summer syndrome" in Litopenaeus stylirostris grow out ponds in New Caledonia: zootechnical and environmental factors Auteur(s) : Lemonnier, Hugues Herbland, Alain Salery, Lucas Soulard, Benoit Éditeur(s) : Elsevier Résumé : The "Summer Syndrome", a septicemic vibriosis caused by Vibrio nigripulchritudo, is responsible for one of the two main seasonal mortalities which affect shrimp aquaculture in New Caledonia. It was identified for the first time in December 1997 in an intensive shrimp farm (called farm DF) and has been enzootic ever since. The "Summer syndrome" affects shrimp during warm-season growout. Although the geographic area concerned is limited, it is a potential threat for the industry in that the disease could spread. Analysis of grow out data from 1991 to 2002 in this farm was carried out in order to characterize the disease and the environmental conditions in relation to mortality. Results of farm DF were compared to data from farms not affected by the disease (called farms HC). The "Summer syndrome" occurs during the warm season which is characterized by an increase in water temperature and sunny duration. This disease is characterized by simultaneously highest densities and weakest drying duration between crops in the farms studied. Between 1991 and 2002, the increase of feed input and nitrogen rate in feed has led to a significant increase of the growth rate over the years in farm DF. At the same time, water management has not changed and has induced an increase in environmental waste production. In consequence, an early eutrophication of water is observed, which is concomitant with the beginning of the mortality outbreaks. This could play a role by inducing directly or indirectly a stress for shrimp and/or a growth and/or virulence factors of the pathogen. This work proposes an interpretative reading of the urban and cultural history of Mar del Plata, a territory whose coastal scenery has been modified in a very important way. Once in this transformational context, we will analyse the advertising practices that contribute to understand the characteristics of the area, in order to offer an interpretation of the changes undergone in the construction of the city image, the social representations that support them and the visual and discursive codes used to transmit them.In order to achieve those aims, we are going to analyse the producers of those messages, the images and the written texts that are included in them, the link between both those instances, and their interpretation. On the other hand, we understand that the recuperation and the interpretative reading of the graphic pieces, elaborated to promote the city, allow a better interpretation of the fundamental characteristics of the transition from an élite seaside resort into one open to all social groups. Thus, the study of the successive images of Mar del Plata favours the study of the visible traces, revealed by the different campaigns and encouraged by the tourist policies of the government and private enterprises, between 1930 and 1945. The aim of this thesis is to explore medieval or neomedieval dynamics and processes at work in corporate and public institutionnal communication. The prupose here is not the study of medieval communication systems in themselves, even if some of their best-know aspects are mentioned. Rather, the present exploratory research seeks largely to observe traces of processes of medieval resurgences and changes and to analyse the possible pervasise influence of these factors in different areas of corporate and public institutional communication. Contexts occupy an important place here. The Middle Ages period, to be understood from the perspective of a lonh Middle Ages, is caracterized here by identified axiologies. These value systems habe benne named medievality. the Study of the relations of these value systems in a modern context forms the basis of this research.First, the study focuses on political, economical and cultural processes which structure present day corporate and public institutional communication. Conclusions are then drawn from sins and from factors pointing to the presence of medievality in the contemporary context. This leads back to semiotics, from where everything originates and to where everythings returns. For, even as political and semiotics phenomena set the groundwork for communication, this communication in turn helps to sustain the two processes from which it develops. The research then goes on to study the medeival foundations of contemporary semiotics and points out demonstration of semiotics medievality in corporate and public institutional communication. To conclude, on the one hand, medievality hides behind a mask of subtle processes underlying modernity, processes revealed by semiotics. On the other hand, the use of several fields of study to analyse communicational phenomena from a historical standpoint may offer a wealth of oppotunities for the research. The medievality hypothesis may also allow for the development of a key to the understanding of problematics in the fields of Information and Communication Sciences. Restoring a historical reference is thus essential, a dimension somewhat neglected in spite of increasing number of research incursions in the distant past. It seems legitimate that Information and Communication Sciences explore the possibilities of research in these fields. http://www.theses.fr/2013AGUY0733 | Partager |
