Résumé : Drake led a British fleet that sailed to the Caribbean in 1585 and 1586. They captured, plundered, and released for ransom Santiago (Cape Verde Islands), Santo Domingo and Cartagena. They captured, sacked and burned St. Augustine, May 28-30, 1586, and then returned to England. An Italian artist living in London, Baptista Boazio, made engravings of the attacks. Boazio's 1588 view of St. Augustine is the first map of a city north of Mexico City. De Bry reproduced Boazio's maps in Part VIII of the Grand Voyages (Latin in 1599, German in 1600).

The Manacas Iznaga Tower is located in Valle de los Ingenios in Trinidad, Cuba, which was a major center for sugar mills. The tower stands approximately 45 feet tall and was used by the sugarcane plantation owner in order to keep watch over his slaves in the fields. It was built in 1816 and stands seven stories high. The ringing of the bell signified various messages, but mostly the beginning and end of the work day for the slaves in the sugar fields. A local legend states that the tower was built by Pedro and Alejo Iznaga to house Alejo's wife, who had been unfaithful to him. The photograph also shows the remains of the Iznaga plantation, as well as several Royal Palm trees and a Poinciana tree in the background.

The Presidential Palace & Parque de Zayas located in the Old Havana section. The palace was inaugurated in 1920 by President Mario García Menocal and housed all presidents until the victory of the Cuban Revolution. After the revolution its name was changed to el Museo de la Revolución. The park was constructed in honor of Alfredo Zayas y Alfonso, who served as President of Cuba from 1921 to 1925. He was Cuba's forth president.
The former Presidential Palace was designed by the Cuban architect Carlos Maruri and the Belgian architect Paul Belau and was inaugurated in 1920 by President Mario García Menocal. It remained the Presidential Palace until 1959. The building has Neo-Classical elements, and was decorated by Tiffany & Co. of New York.

Photograph of the Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro. At the entrance to Havana Bay, the castle, which was originally built as a small white lookout tower in 1563. The fort was established in 1589 to guard Havana from pirates as well as British invaders. Juan Bautista Antonelli, an Italian engineer, was commissioned to design the structure. The fort itself was restored later in 1963.

In 1534 Spanish Town, the capital of Saint Catherine, Jamaica was founded, becoming the oldest continuously inhabited city in Jamaica. The city was once known as Santo Jago de la Vega (Saint James of the Plain) and is built on the West Bank of the Rio Cobre. In the image is an excavation site with a brick foundation. The photograph shows two ocean liners docked in Bridgetown Port. Passengers can be seen on the one of the ship's decks looking over the side to see people and automobiles on the street. The M.S. Renaissance was built in 1966. Until 1977, she operated primarily on the Marseille-Haifa route under Compagnie Navigation de Paquet (Croiseres Paquet), Marseille, France. The cruise liner had many subsequent owners throughout her history, until her disposal in 2010. Slide labeled Barb 5.

The University of Havana, was originally called "Real y Pontificia Universidad de San Gerónimo de la Habana" translated The Royal and Pontifical University of Saint Jerome of Havana. Located in the Vedado district of Havana, Cuba, it was founded in 1728. It is the oldest university in Cuba and one of the first to be founded in the Americas.

The Caribe Hilton was built in 1949, becoming the first Hilton hotel outside of the continental US, and thus marking the beginning of Hilton International. Designed by Osvaldo Toro and Miguel Ferrer, it originally contained 300 rooms, but has since expanded through multiple renovations (including major remodeling and grand re-opening in 1999). A staple of the Puerto Rican tourism industry, The Caribe Hilton’s frequent guests include famous entertainers, athletes, and political figures. It is also known for one of its bars, where the first Piña Colada drink was made in August 1954. Also visible in the photograph, is part of the Condado Lagoon and the historic Fortín de San Gerónimo del Boquerón, which was built in the 17th century and was crucial in the defense of San Juan against a British attack in 1797.
