(Biographical) Aida García Alonso was Cuban. She attended Mexico's National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH) where she got a degree in cultural anthropology. After the Cuban Revolution, García Alonso returned to Cuba. There she started to do ethnographic research in Las Yaguas, a series of slums in Havana. Her work coincided with the Cuban government's project of relocating Las Yaguas' dwellers to new houses built by the new regime. The result of her fieldwork was the book Manuela la Mexicana published by Casa de las Americas in 1968. In the 1970s, García Alonso was preparing a second edition. For this newer edition she prepared photographs and statistics on the people who used to live in Las Yaguas and was relocated. Fidel Castro's government censored the work, and García Alonso went into exile to Mexico in 1980, where she died in 2009. The Presidential Palace & Parque de Zayas located in the Old Havana section. The palace was inaugurated in 1920 by President Mario García Menocal and housed all presidents until the victory of the Cuban Revolution. After the revolution its name was changed to el Museo de la Revolución. The park was constructed in honor of Alfredo Zayas y Alfonso, who served as President of Cuba from 1921 to 1925. He was Cuba's forth president. The former Presidential Palace was designed by the Cuban architect Carlos Maruri and the Belgian architect Paul Belau and was inaugurated in 1920 by President Mario García Menocal. It remained the Presidential Palace until 1959. The building has Neo-Classical elements, and was decorated by Tiffany & Co. of New York. To celebrate their annual production the Cuesta-Rey & Co. cigar factory had a banquet at the end of each year, it was referred to as "The Truly Spanish House," and was held at the Atlanta Restaurant in West Tampa. Robert Fulton (1765-1815) was an American inventor credited with adapting the steam engine for commercial use in boats. He worked with Robert Livingston to provide steamboat service along the Hudson River. The steamboat pictured went into service in 1909, the year of the Hudson-Fulton Celebration which celebrated Henry Hudson’s exploration of the Hudson River and Robert Fulton’s paddle steamer. Steamboat Robert Fulton belonged to the Hudson River Day Line and made its final voyage on September 13, 1948 traveling along the Hudson River from Albany to New York City. In 1959, the steamboat was brought on land to Snake Cay, Abaco, Bahamas where it later housed the offices and apartments for Owens-Illinois Incorporated, a lumber company. Nelson’s Dockyard National Park, a Georgian-era dockyard, is Antigua’s largest national park. During the 18th century, the harbor served as a base for the British Navy but eventually went into disuse. In the 1950s, the Friends of English Harbour began a restoration project of the dockyard and its facilities, transforming the Admiral’s House into a working museum and center for archaeological research. Today, Nelson’s Dockyard is also used as a marina for yachts and ships. This image shows various types of boats docked in the harbor surrounding Nelson's Dockyard with the mountains in the distance.
