Steel pan music, which evolved from African drum music, originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 20th century and is often a featured instrument during Carnival. As one of the national emblems of Trinidad and Tobago, steel pans were traditionally made from used steel oil drums or steel containers. The container’s head is concave and the playing surface is divided into convex sections by slants to make the pan's range of sounds. In this image are used steel oil drums, some steel pans with the Shell Oil Company logo and the word "Invaders," painted white metal steel pan stands, and breadfruit trees. One poster is advertising the Shell Invaders Steel Orchestra. Other signs includes phrases such as: "We are the greatest" and "Notice there is to be no unnecessary coasting in the yard." Résumé : The text is the transcription of the oral presentation made on November 5th, 2014 in front of the National Assembly in Paris within the framework of the conference, organized by the FEDOM and the ACCIOM, entitled: " the economic and strategic stakes of South Pacific overseas French Territories: New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna : valuable lands, ocean of future ". After a presentation of the geographical context of the three communities: New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna and French Polynesia, a first chapter develops their main advantages towards stakes in economic growth in terms of spaces, quality, biodiversity, geo-diversity, energy resources, know-how … A second chapter, after a reminder of the ambitions of the National Commission on Innovation focuses for each of the territories on the axes of new growth linked to the maritime potential which characterizes them. In conclusion we clarify all the interest which represent these three communities and their complementarities as sustainable development laboratories bound to the sea and the necessity of the elaboration of adequate support strategies..
Le texte est la transcription de la présentation orale effectuée le 5 novembre 2014 devant l’Assemblée Nationale à Paris dans le cadre de la conférence, organisée par la FEDOM et l’ACCIOM, intitulée : « Les enjeux économiques et stratégiques de l’outre-mer français du Pacifique : Nouvelle-Calédonie, Polynésie française, Wallis et Futuna , terres de valeurs, océan d’avenir ». Après une présentation du contexte géographique des 3 collectivités : Nouvelle-Calédonie, Wallis et Futuna et Polynésie française, un premier chapitre développe leurs atouts majeurs vis-à-vis d’enjeux de croissance en termes d’espaces, de qualité, de biodiversité, de géo-diversité, de ressources énergétiques, de savoir-faire… Un second chapitre, après un rappel des ambitions de la Commission Nationale Innovation se focalise pour chacun des 3 territoires sur les axes de croissance nouvelle liée au potentiel maritime qui les caractérise. En conclusion on explicite tout l’intérêt que représentent ces trois collectivités et leurs complémentarités comme laboratoires de développement durable lié à la mer et la nécessité de l’élaboration de stratégies d’accompagnement adéquates.

Peridotite xenoliths exhumed by Quaternary alkaline magmatism in the Tahalgha district, southern Hoggar, represent fragments of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle beneath the boundary between the two major structural domains of the Tuareg Shield: the ‘Polycyclic Central Hoggar’ to the east and the ‘Western Hoggar’, or ‘Pharusian Belt’, to the west. Samples were collected from volcanic centres located on both sides of a major lithospheric shear zone at 4°35' separating these two domains. Although showing substantial variations in their deformation microstructures, equilibrium temperatures and modal and chemical compositions, the studied samples do not display any systematic changes of these features across the 4°35' fault. The observed variations rather record small-scale heterogeneities distributed throughout the study area and reflecting the widespread occurrence of vein conduits and metasomatized wall-rocks related to trans-lithospheric melt circulation during the Cenozoic. These features include partial annealing of pre-existing deformation microstructures, post-deformation metasomatic reactions, and trace-element enrichment, coupled with heating from 750–900°C (low-temperature lherzolites) to 900–1150°C (intermediate-T lherzolites and high-T harzburgites and wehrlites). Trace-element modelling confirms that the range of rare earth element (REE) variations observed in the Tahalgha clinopyroxenes may be accounted for by reactive porous flow involving a single stage of basaltic melt infiltration into a light REE (LREE)-depleted protolith. Whole-rock compositions record the final entrapment of disequilibrium metasomatic melts upon thermal relaxation of the veins–wall-rock system. The striking correlations between equilibrium temperatures and trace-element enrichment favor a scenario in which the high-temperature peridotites record advective heat transport along melt conduits, whereas the intermediate- and low-temperature lherzolites reflect conductive heating of the host Mechanical Boundary Layer. This indicates that the lithosphere did not reach thermal equilibrium, suggesting that the inferred heating event was transient and was rapidly erased by thermal relaxation down to the relatively low-temperature present-day geotherm. The low-T (<900°C) deformed lherzolites (porphyroclastic to equigranular) are characterized by only incipient annealing and LREE-depleted clinopyroxene compositions. They were only weakly affected by the Cenozoic events and could represent relatively well-preserved samples from rejuvenated Pan-African lithosphere. Extensive lithospheric rejuvenation occurred either regionally during the Pan-African orogeny, as a result of lithospheric delamination or thermomechanical erosion after thickening, or more locally along the meridional shear zones. The low-T Tahalgha lherzolites are comparable with lherzolites from Etang de Lherz, southern France, interpreted as lithospheric mantle rejuvenated by melt-induced refertilization during a late stage of the Variscan orogeny.

View of Saint George’s, the capital of Grenada, which is located in the parish of Saint George. Steamship (S.S.) Regina is shown docked in Saint George’s harbor. S.S. Regina, originally built in 1939, was acquired in 1964 by Chandris Cruises and renamed Regina. Her funnel features the Greek Chi symbol which was placed on Chandris ships to honor the founder’s Greek heritage. In the distance can be seen the dark stone walls of Fort George, Grenada’s oldest fort which was built by the French in 1705. Fort George continues (2013) to function as the headquarters for the Royal Grenada Police Force, which it has housed since 1854 when the Colonial Government took over control of the fort.
