Résumé : (Biographical) From Wikipedia for H. G. de Lisser, from 29 June 2013: Herbert George de Lisser CMG (9 December 1878 - 19 May 1944) was a Jamaican journalist and author. He has been called "one of the most conspicuous figures in the history of West Indian literature". De Lisser was born in Falmouth, Jamaica, and attended William Morrison's Collegiate School in Kingston. He started work at the Institute of Jamaica at the age of 14. Three years later he joined the Jamaica Daily Gleaner, of which his father was editor, as a proofreader, and two years later became a reporter on the Jamaica Times. In 1903, De Lisser became assistant editor of the Gleaner and was editor within the year. He wrote several articles for the paper every day. He also produced a novel or non-fiction book every year, beginning in 1913 with Jane: A Story of Jamaica, significant for being the first West Indian novel to have a central black character. Another famous novel of his, The White Witch of Rosehall (1929), is linked to a legend of a haunting in Jamaica. De Lisser also wrote several plays. In December 1920 he began publishing an annual magazine, Planters' Punch. De Lisser devoted much time and effort to the revival of the Jamaican sugar industry and represented Jamaica at a number of sugar conferences around the world. He was also general secretary of the Jamaica Imperial Association, honorary president of the Jamaica Press Association, and chairman of the West Indian section of the Empire Press Union. He was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the 1920 New Year Honours.

Résumé : (Exhibitions) "Patterns Past and Present: Arts of Panama" at the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art. The creature on this mola blouse has both human and animal features. It appears to be a woman with webbed hands and feet and amphibious limbs, suggesting she is part frog or turtle. The pointed teeth suggest she may be a nia, or demon. Alternatively, she may be a beneficent being, as the xray-like view of the ribcage may be an allusion to the use of turtle bones in healing practices.

Résumé : Written on verso: "View of the driveway connecting Havana and Vedado showing huge portions of the new concrete seawall broken up by the waves during the storm on Sept. 9th, 1919. They were carried entirely across the new boulevard being constructed along the seawall, then over the double street car track and finally deposited in the middle of the roadway at the foot of Santa Clara battery, as shown. These blocks were so large and heavy that it was necessary to blast them into smaller sections for removal. The rough slabs in the foreground are pieces of the concrete base of the new boulevard mentioned above." "Photo by Harris Bros., Co., O'Reilly 104, Havana, Cuba." Also: "Used 1919." Résumé : Planta herbácea erguida de hasta 1.7 m de alto, glabra y glauca. Hojas alternas, oblongas a obovadas de hasta 35 cm, tripinnadas con los últimos segmentos filiformes; vainas peciolares de 1-3 cm de longitud. Inflorescencias con umbelas terminales y laterales; flores numerosas de pétalos amarillos. Fruto ovado-elíptico, glabro, de hasta 4 mm de longitud, compreso dorsalmente, costillas estrechamente aladas, las 2 laterales más amplias. Con frecuencia esta especie es confundida con Foeniculum vulgare, el cual tiene una vaina peciolar más larga y todas las costillas del fruto son iguales.
Plante herbacée, à tige dressée, pouvant atteindre 1,7 m de haut. Feuilles oblongues à ovées, tripennées de 20-40 sur 10-20 cm, les derniers segments sont filiformes. Ombelles de 15 cm de diamètre, nombreuses fleurs, pétales jaunes. Fruit ovalo-elliptique de 4 mm sur 2 mm. Cette espèce est fréquemment confondue avec Foeniculum vulgare, laquelle a une gousse pétiolaire plus large et toutes les côtes de fruit égales.
Erect herb, up to 1.7 m high, glabrous and glaucous.  Leaves alternate, oblong to obovate, up to 35 cm long, tri-pinnate, with filiform final segments; petiolar sheaths, 1-3 cm long; inflorescences with terminal and lateral umbels; numerous flowers bearing yellow petals; fruit ovate-elliptic and glabrous, up to 4 mm long, dorsally compressed, with tightly winged ribs, the two side ribs being broader. This species is frequently confused with Foeniculum vulgare, in spite of the fact that the latter has a longer petiolar sheath and all of its fruit ribs are all the same size.

Fleurs en longs épis terminaux, de 2,5 à 7,5 cm, celle du centre étant dépassée par les fleurs latérales; calice glabre, avec dents aiguës, en général ciliées; corolle pourpre, rarement blanche, glabre. L’existence de variétés à l’intérieur de l’espèce peut nuancer la description botanique typique indiquée ci-dessus.

Varadero has one of the top beaches in the Caribbean and is known for its crystal clear water and white sand. Varadero is a popular spot for tourists and domestic travelers. The building in the background is most likely a hotel. You can see several hand-made bags on the walkway that are being sold by a nearby vender. On the beach itself there are several lounge chairs and umbrellas.
