Résumé : Many publishers, scholarly contributors, and others often contribute born-digital PDFs where they do not want the PDFs available online. In cases where contributors are granting permissions for page view image views enabled (JPG, JP2, JPGthumbnails) and not the PDF, they are granting permissions to allow the item to be easily viewed online but not easily printed in high quality. This document explains the digital curation workflow processing for these needs.

With archival collections, there are many cases where an item from a folder will be digitized without the full folder or collection being digitized. In those cases, printed sheets like this example are added as inserts at the front of the physical folder to alert internal and patron users of the digital content available, and to support coherence and consistent handling for any future digitization.

29 inorganic compounds (Al, As, B, Ba, Be, Bi, Ca, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Gd, K, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Nd, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, Sr, Ti, U, V and Zn) were measured in the tap water of 484 representative homes of children aged 6 months to 6 years in metropolitan France in 2008-2009. Parents were asked whether their children consumed tap water. Sampling design and sampling weights were taken into account to estimate element concentrations in tap water supplied to the 3,581,991 homes of 4,923,058 children aged 6 months to 6 years. Median and 95th percentiles of concentrations in tap water were in mu g/L: Al: <10, 483, As: 02, 2.1; B: <100, 100; Ba: 30.7, 149.4; Ca: 85,000, 121,700; Cd: <0.5, <0.5; Ce: <0.5, <0.5; Co: <0.5, 0.8; Cr: <5, <5; Cu: 70, 720; K: 2210, 6740; Fe: <20, 46; Mn: <5, <5; Mo: <0.5,1.5; Na: 14,500, 66,800; Ni: <2,10.2; Mg: 6500,21,200; Pb: <1, 5.4; Sb: <0.5, <0.5; Se: <1, 6.7; Sr: 256.9, 1004; TI: <0.5, <0.5; U: <0.5, 2.4; V: <1, 1; Zn; 53, 208. Of the 2,977,123 young children drinking tap water in France, some were drinking water having concentrations above the 2011 World Health Organization drinking water quality guidelines: respectively 498 (CI 95%: 0-1484) over 700 mu g/L of Ba; 121,581 (CI 95%: 7091-236,070) over 50 mg/L of Na; 2044 (CI 95%: 0-6132) over 70 mu g/L of Ni, and 78,466 (17,171-139,761) over 10 mu g/L of Pb. Since it is representative, this tap water contamination data can be used for integrated exposure assessment, in conjunction with diet and environmental (dust and soil) exposure data. The aim of this study was to compare the core temperature (TC) and markers of hydration status in athletes performing a half Ironman triathlon race in hot and humid conditions (27.2 ± 0.5°C, relative humidity was 80 ± 2%). Before and immediately after the 2012 Guadeloupe half Ironman triathlon, body mass and urine osmolarity (mean ± SD) were measured in 19 well-trained male triathletes. TC was measured before and after the race, and at each transition during the event, using an ingestible pill telemetry system. Ambient temperature and heart rate (HR) were measured throughout the race. Mean ± SD performance time was 331 ± 36 minutes and HR was 147 ± 16 beats·min-1. Wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) averaged 25.4 ± 1.0°C and ocean temperature was 29.5°C. The average TC at the beginning of the race (TC1) was 37.1 ± 0.7°C; it was 37.8 ± 0.9°C after swimming (TC2), 37.8 ± 1.0°C after cycling (TC3), and (TC4) 38.4 ± 0.7°C after running. Body mass significantly declined during the race by 3.7 ± 1.9 kg (4.8 ± 2.4%; p < 0.05), whereas urine osmolarity significantly increased from 491.6 ± 300.6 to 557.9 ± 207.9 mosm·L-1 (p < 0.05). Changes in body mass were not related to finishing TC or urine osmolarity. Ad libitum fluid intake appears applicable to athletes acclimatized to tropical climate, when performing a half Ironman triathlon in a warm and humid environment.

Résumé : The UF Smathers Libraries partner with institutions and scholars to host and preserve digital collections, support scholarly publishing with digital collections, and support digital acquisitions to build shared collections. Clear benefits from partnerships are often supported with minimal costs by leveraging UF’s infrastructure for hosting, preservation, publishing, and acquisition. However, digital collections require ongoing support. In addition to the future “care and feeding,” new collections and projects also require support for various needs which may be one-time, infrequent, or a stable and continuous commitment throughout a project. These needs draw from digital curation and other areas (e.g., bulk ingesting materials, training for partners, liaising for grant proposal development, liaising for collection development and outreach, collaboration on activities related to specific projects as with training and outreach). Because of the immediate demands and ongoing commitments required for partnerships, potential new partnerships with the UF Libraries are reviewed for consideration and possible approval. This document provides background on partnerships with the UF Libraries, considerations for reviewing potential new partnerships for approval, and procedures for establishing new partnerships and ensuring optimal ongoing support.
