Volcaniclastic sedimentation on the submarine slopes of a basaltic hotspot volcano: Piton de la Fournaise volcano (La Réunion Island, Indian Ocean) Auteur(s) : Saint-ange, Francky Bachelery, Patrick Babonneau, Nathalie Michon, Laurent Jorry, Stephan Éditeur(s) : Elsevier Science Bv Résumé : Volcaniclastic successions are well-described in volcanic arc setting but rare in hotspot environments. The present work proposes a facies model of volcaniclastic sedimentation related to basaltic hotspot volcanoes as exemplified by the Piton de la Fournaise volcano (La Réunion Island). The facies model is based on a multi-scale approach combining high-resolution multibeam and backscatter data, deep-water photographs, side scan imagery and Kullenberg piston cores. Data show that a wide range of gravity flows and erosional features develop in the active volcaniclastic sedimentary system. Coastal and submarine instabilities are the main processes shaping the volcano's submarine morphology. Meanwhile, the evolution and dynamics of the sedimentary system are strongly linked with the morpho-structural evolution of the subaerial part of the volcano. The proposed model is characterized by a cyclic succession of stages: (1) a growing stage during which sedimentary activity is mainly restricted to proximal and mid-slope areas; (2) a collapse stage that entirely reshapes the morphology of the submarine slopes; and (3) an erosional stage related to a slow down of volcanic activity, enabling the development of large deep-sea fans. Small-scale coastal fisheries in Europe. Final report Auteur(s) : Guyader, Olivier Berthou, Patrick Koustikopoulos, C. Alban, Frederique Demaneche, Sebastien Gaspar, M Eschbaum, R Fahy, E Résumé : The necessity of improving knowledge in fisheries and especially small-scale coastal fisheries in order to analyse the conditions for their sustainable development is increasingly recognized. The three main requirements for the sustainable development of fisheries are the simultaneous present and future well being of the bio-ecological system, the human system and the management process. Knowledge on these aspects of small-scale coastal fisheries (SSCF) in Europe is generally limited, although there has been an improvement in information on the fishing sector and inshore marine resources due to the EU Data Collection Regulations (DCR) 1. SSCF are strongly represented in all EU Member States (81% and 87% of the EU 25 whole fleet is composed of vessels less than 12 and 15 meters respectively)2 and approximately 100,000 crew are involved in SSCF in Europe. SSCF are present all around the European coast, even in isolated and sensitive areas. This work proposes an interpretative reading of the urban and cultural history of Mar del Plata, a territory whose coastal scenery has been modified in a very important way. Once in this transformational context, we will analyse the advertising practices that contribute to understand the characteristics of the area, in order to offer an interpretation of the changes undergone in the construction of the city image, the social representations that support them and the visual and discursive codes used to transmit them.In order to achieve those aims, we are going to analyse the producers of those messages, the images and the written texts that are included in them, the link between both those instances, and their interpretation. On the other hand, we understand that the recuperation and the interpretative reading of the graphic pieces, elaborated to promote the city, allow a better interpretation of the fundamental characteristics of the transition from an élite seaside resort into one open to all social groups. Thus, the study of the successive images of Mar del Plata favours the study of the visible traces, revealed by the different campaigns and encouraged by the tourist policies of the government and private enterprises, between 1930 and 1945.
