Tower Isle Hotel was originally built in 1949, by founder Abraham ‘Abe’ Issa, as the first year-round resort on the Central North coast of Jamaica. Eventually, Issa earned the nicknamed “Mr. Jamaica” and later became the first chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board. Tower Isle was later renamed Couples Tower Isle. The hotel, pictured, is surrounded by palms and is built near the shoreline. Tourists can be seen on the beach while boats are anchored in the ocean. Slide labeled Tower Isle.

The original Shaw Park Hotel was located at the top of this hill with a view of the Caribbean Sea in Ocho Rios, Saint Ann, Jamaica. The area pictured is now known as the Shaw Park Botanical Gardens and Waterfall. The hotel has been relocated to the beach. The garden and lawns have been planted with many flowering plants. In 1965, the Royal Victoria Institute was renamed the National Museum and Art Gallery of Trinidad and Tobago. The museum, established in 1892, was named to commemorate Queen Victoria's jubilee. The original building was designed by Daniel Meinerts Hahn, the Chief Draughtsman of the Public Works in Trinidad. Hahn was also the architect of the Queen’s Royal College. The museum's architectural elements include Dutch gables and slates on the roof. The image shows a man walking by the museum, which also has a dugout canoe in front on display. Slide labeled Trin. 9.

In 1625, Barbados was claimed on behalf of England. In 1627, Barbados was colonized and attained independence in 1966. The Barbados Parliament, established in 1639, was the third oldest Parliament in the British Commonwealth. The Parliament Buildings, completed in 1874, are the meeting places for the two chambers of Parliament, the Senate and the House of Assembly. The Legislative Council, originally established during the island’s colonization, was replaced by a Senate in 1964. The main entrance to the House of Assembly, the lower house, has a Bust of Sir William Conrad Reeves the first black person to be knighted. The architecture of the buildings reflects a Gothic revival featuring arches. The picture includes a woman in a yellow dress and a man next to a school. Many forms of transportation vehicles are seen: automobiles, scooters, motorcycles, and bicycles. Slide labeled Public Bldgs. Barbados.

In 1922, the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture (ICTA) was founded in Saint Augustine, Trinidad after a merger between the Imperial Department of Agriculture and the West Indian Agricultural College. In 1960, the College was incorporated as the Saint Augustine campus of the University College of the West Indies, now known as the University of the West Indies (UWI). Today, the original ICTA building, pictured, houses the administration building for the UWI Saint Augustine campus. The image also shows the construction of another building in the distance. Barbados is known for its traditional homes, “chattel houses,” because they could be disassembled and moved. Originally, these dwellings were built for plantation workers. Later, they were built by freed slaves and sharecroppers, who usually built the dwelling on blocks close to main roads so that they could be easily relocated as many were not landowners but rather tenants. Hallmarks of chattel house construction are steep gable roofs (to deflect wind and rain) and wood panel walls. The wooden jalousie windows on hinges and fretwork around windows offered shade and protection against the rain. Slide labeled Barb 17 typical house.

Résumé : À la fin du xixe siècle, la fabrique horlogère de Genève est confrontée à l’arrivée de montres reprenant abusivement ses marques et le nom de Genève. En réaction, les horlogers, les marchands et les pouvoirs publics mettent en place un dispositif pour protéger ce secteur économique. L’une des solutions retenues est d’identifier les montres faites Genève en certifiant leur qualité. En 1886, la création d’un poinçon de l’État et de la République de Genève est le premier label associant les savoir-faire d’un territoire à la qualité technique de ses produits. A l’origine défensif, le poinçon fait la promotion de produits de haut de gamme caractérisés par une bonne facture, une fiabilité et leur origine, marqueur du luxe des montres de Genève.
At the end of the 19th century, the watchmakers of Geneva are confronted to the arrival of products retaking abusively its brands and the name of Geneva. In response, watchmakers, retailers and public actors decided to protect this economic sector. One of the solutions picked up was to identify Geneva-made watches by certifying their quality. In 1886, the creation of a hallmark of the State and the Republic of Geneva is the first label associating the expertise of a territory with the technical quality of its products. Originally defensive, the hallmark promotes high-quality products characterized by a good invoice, a reliability and their origin, a branding of the luxury of Geneva watches.

: In non-mammalian vertebrates, serotonin (5-HT)-producing neurons exist in the paraventricular organ (PVO), a diencephalic structure containing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-contacting neurons exhibiting 5-HT or dopamine (DA) immunoreactivity. Because the brain of the adult teleost is known for its neurogenic activity supported, for a large part, by radial glial progenitors, this study addresses the origin of newborn 5-HT neurons in the hypothalamus of adult zebrafish. In this species, the PVO exhibits numerous radial glial cells (RGCs) whose somata are located at a certain distance from the ventricle. To study relationships between RGCs and 5-HT CSF-contacting neurons, we performed 5-HT immunohistochemistry in transgenic tg(cyp19a1b-GFP) zebrafish in which RGCs are labelled with GFP under the control of the cyp19a1b promoter. We show that the somata of the 5-HT neurons are located closer to the ventricle than those of RGCs. RGCs extend towards the ventricle cytoplasmic processes that form a continuous barrier along the ventricular surface. In turn, 5-HT neurons contact the CSF via processes that cross this barrier through small pores. Further experiments using proliferating cell nuclear antigen or 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine indicate that RGCs proliferate and give birth to 5-HT neurons migrating centripetally instead of centrifugally as in other brain regions. Furthermore, treatment of adult zebrafish with tryptophan hydroxylase inhibitor causes a significant decrease in the number of proliferating cells in the PVO, but not in the mediobasal hypothalamus. These data point to the PVO as an intriguing region in which 5-HT appears to promote genesis of 5-HT neurons that accumulate along the brain ventricles and contact the CSF.

Steel pan music is most often associated with Trinidad and Tobago, where the art form originated, but the music is also popular in Barbados. Steel pans are made from oil drums that have had the drum head shaped with slopes and slants to make music note sounds. These drums have been painted blue and yellow to reflect the Barbados flag colors. This steel pan band includes a musician using shak-shaks (similar to maracas), which is a hollow rattle used in the Lesser Antilles. Cockspur Fine Rum box, pictured, has been produced in Barbados since 1884, when Danish seaman Valdemar Hanschell created the rum, which is distilled from fermented molasses. The cruise terminal, pictured, would contain departments to manage cruise passengers, such as Immigration and Customs. Slide labeled Barb 8.

Two men walk along the beach on Grand Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. One of the men is holding a bonefish and the other man is holding a fishing rod. One of these men is John Richard Yeend. John Yeend, also known as Captain Jack R. Yeend, was the captain of the boat "Isabella." Originally from Ohio, Yeend moved with his wife Florence Mildred Snively to West Palm Beach, Florida in the 1960s. During February of 1957, “Isabella” travelled to many of the smaller islands of the Abacos including Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Allen Cay, and Grand Cay. View of Steamship (S.S.) Regina, a crowd of people, and automobiles on the pier in front of the Grenada Port Authority in Saint George’s, Saint George, Grenada. S.S. Regina, originally built in 1939, is docked at the port. S.S. Regina was christened S.S. Panama for Panama Line, formerly Panama Railroad Steamship Line. In 1941, the United States Army Transport Service converted her to a troop carrier and renamed her James Parker. By 1957, she was sold to American President Lines, formerly Dollar Steamship Lines. She was renamed President Hoover to replace another of American’s steamships by the same name. In 1964, she was acquired by Chandris Cruises and renamed Regina. She was scrapped in 1985 as S.S. Regina Prima. Passengers wait in automobiles, such as the Ford Zodiac, as the traffic is surrounded by pedestrians. A Royal Grenada Police Force officer, dressed in a white helmet and light blue shirt, is standing near one of the port facilities. In distance is a view of buildings in Saint George’s including the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception which dates back to 1818. UNLABELLED: Glioblastoma (GB) is the most frequent and aggressive tumor of the central nervous system. There is currently growing interest in proteomic studies of GB, particularly with the aim of identifying new prognostic or therapeutic response markers. However, comparisons between different proteomic analyses of GB have revealed few common differentiated proteins. The types of control samples used to identify such proteins may in part explain the different results obtained. We therefore tried to determine which control samples would be most suitable for GB proteomic studies. We used an isotope-coded protein labeling (ICPL) method followed by mass spectrometry to reveal and compare the protein patterns of two commonly used types of control sample: GB peritumoral brain zone samples (PBZ) from six patients and epilepsy surgery brain samples (EB) pooled from three patients. The data obtained were processed using AMEN software for network analysis. We identified 197 non-redundant proteins and 35 of them were differentially expressed. Among these 35 differentially expressed proteins, six were over-expressed in PBZ and 29 in EB, showing different proteomic patterns between the two samples. Surprisingly, EB appeared to display a tumoral-like expression pattern in comparison to PBZ. In our opinion, PBZ may be more appropriate control sample for GB proteomic analysis. BIOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This manuscript describes an original study in which we used an isotope-coded protein labeling method followed by mass spectrometry to identify and compare the protein patterns in two types of sample commonly used as control for glioblastoma (GB) proteomic analysis: peritumoral brain zone and brain samples obtained during surgery for epilepsy. The choice of control samples is critical for identifying new prognostic and/or diagnostic markers in GB.
