Great Whale Cay, in the Berry Island chain of the Bahamas, was the home of Marion Barbara “Joe” Carstairs. Carstairs was an openly gay, British world champion speedboat racer in the 1920's who bought the island in 1934. She was nicknamed "The Queen of Whale Cay", which is also the title of her biography.
