Steel pan music, which evolved from African drum music, originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 20th century and is often a featured instrument during Carnival. As one of the national emblems of Trinidad and Tobago, steel pans were traditionally made from used steel oil drums or steel containers. The container’s head is concave and the playing surface is divided into convex sections by slants to make the pan's range of sounds. In this image are used steel oil drums, some steel pans with the Shell Oil Company logo and the word "Invaders," painted white metal steel pan stands, and breadfruit trees. One poster is advertising the Shell Invaders Steel Orchestra. Other signs includes phrases such as: "We are the greatest" and "Notice there is to be no unnecessary coasting in the yard." In the background is a woman standing on top of a concrete building's roof with laudry and men standing near the wall. Slide labeled Trin. 16.

The steel pan, a percussion instrument, originated in Trinidad and Tobago and is one of the country’s national emblems. In the yard are other used steel oil drums, white metal steel pan stands, and many breadfruit trees. In the background are buildings, some made of wood with zinc paneled roofs. There is also a poster advertising the Shell Invaders Steel Orchestra, a steel band active during the 1960s and sponsored by Shell Oil Company. Some of the notices in the yard read as follows: "Notice don't sit stand lean or prop on the stands," "We are the greatest," "Notice absolutely no unnecessary coasting in the yard." The Texaco Astronauts steel band, popular during the 1960s, were sponsored by Texaco, an oil company. In the distance are pedestrians on a nearby street. In the garden, near the practicing band, are empty tables and chairs on a gravel path. Mango, palm, and various trees grow in the garden.

In Trinidad and Tobago, carnival celebrations begin after Christmas and peak during the Monday and Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday. Costumed masqueraders and festival revelers partake in the two-day street parade, generally accompanied by soca, calypso, and steel pan music, before beginning the Lenten season. The National Museum and Art Gallery hosts a permanent ongoing exhibit of masks and costumes from past carnivals. The carnival costume, pictured in the center, is made with long and short white feathers and features highlights of black feathers. Gold ornaments decorate the costume which also has a ram’s head near the waist area. Next to this costume is an ornate peacock head gear which has been placed atop an armless statue with a human face. Slide labeled Trin. 12.

Steel pan music is most often associated with Trinidad and Tobago, where the art form originated, but the music is also popular in Barbados. Steel pans are made from oil drums that have had the drum head shaped with slopes and slants to make music note sounds. These drums have been painted blue and yellow to reflect the Barbados flag colors. This steel pan band includes a musician using shak-shaks (similar to maracas), which is a hollow rattle used in the Lesser Antilles. Cockspur Fine Rum box, pictured, has been produced in Barbados since 1884, when Danish seaman Valdemar Hanschell created the rum, which is distilled from fermented molasses. The cruise terminal, pictured, would contain departments to manage cruise passengers, such as Immigration and Customs. Slide labeled Barb 8.

The strict environmental legislations and increasing ecological awareness among scientists have led to the development of “green” alternatives to mitigate corrosion. In the present work, literature on green corrosion inhibitors has been reviewed, and the salient features of our work on green corrosion inhibitors have been highlighted. Among the studied leaves, extract Andrographis paniculata showed better inhibition performance (98%) than the other leaves extract. Strychnos nuxvomica showed better inhibition (98%) than the other seed extracts. Moringa oleifera is reflected as a good corrosion inhibitor of mild steel in 1 M HCl with 98% inhibition efficiency among the studied fruits extract. Bacopa monnieri showed its maximum inhibition performance to be 95% at 600 ppm among the investigated stem extracts. All the reported plant extracts were found to inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in acid media.
