Two men walk down the road lined with almond trees in Ocho Rios, Saint Ann, Jamaica. In the distance can be seen a bauxite plant. Bauxite is the principal raw material used in the production of alumina. Bauxite mining began in Jamaica in 1942, when the “red ferruginous earth” of Saint Ann was found to contain high amounts of alumina for mining. In 1944, Reynolds Metals Company and its subsidiary Reynolds Jamaica Mines began mining explorations in Saint Ann. On June 5, 1952, the first shipment of bauxite ore left Jamaica from Reynolds Jamaica Mines in Ocho Rios. Slide labeled Bauxite Plant Ocho Rios.

Polo known as the game of kings was brought to Jamaica by the British in 1882 when they established one of the oldest polo clubs in the world. View of the former court house and the façade of the King's House in Spanish Town, Saint Catherine, Jamaica. On the left is the former court house, which was constructed in 1819 by James Delancy, on the site of a Spanish chapel and cemetery. In 1986, the court house was destroyed by fire. On the right is old King's House, or governor's mansion, completed in 1762. Thomas Craskell, the Island Engineer, was responsible for preparing the King's House building plans. The mansion was destroyed during a fire in 1925 and now houses the Jamaican People's Museum of Crafts and Technology. In the center of the image are buildings on King's Street. In the image are children playing on the side walk and people resting in the shade of the King's House facade. Slide labeled Spanish Town.

In 1953, the co-educational school Moore Town Primary and Junior High School in Portland, Jamaica was established as an all age school. The Bump Grave monument of Nanny of the Maroons is erected across the road at the front of the school. Nanny sometimes known as, Granny Nanny, is Jamaica’s only female National Hero. In this image, some school children dressed in school uniforms are standing outside the one-room school building. Slide labeled Jam. School in Moore Town.
