Two men walk down the road lined with almond trees in Ocho Rios, Saint Ann, Jamaica. In the distance can be seen a bauxite plant. Bauxite is the principal raw material used in the production of alumina. Bauxite mining began in Jamaica in 1942, when the “red ferruginous earth” of Saint Ann was found to contain high amounts of alumina for mining. In 1944, Reynolds Metals Company and its subsidiary Reynolds Jamaica Mines began mining explorations in Saint Ann. On June 5, 1952, the first shipment of bauxite ore left Jamaica from Reynolds Jamaica Mines in Ocho Rios. Slide labeled Bauxite Plant Ocho Rios.

The town of Bath is located in the John Crow Mountains in Saint Thomas, Jamaica. Mineral springs flow from the rocks and are piped into the bath house, pictured, where the cold and hot waters of the springs are mixed together. The water’s high mineral (sulfur and lime) content is believed to have medicinal properties. The bath has been officially known as the Bath of the Saint Thomas the Apostle. Bath Fountain Hotel and Spa is run by the Jamaican Ministry of Tourism. In front of the building are many automobiles including a taxi. Along the stream, pictured, are dasheens (taros), ferns, palms, and other trees. Slide labeled Jam. St. Thomas min bath at Bath (SE).

Tourists sitting on bamboo river rafts. In the distance are bamboo trees, some with cut stalks, along the river banks. Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica was originally a banana port, where rivers like the Rio Grande were used to transport bananas from the island’s interior to cargo ships. Errol Flynn is credited for popularizing bamboo rafting because he encouraged his friends and visitors to take these rafts for fun. Slide labeled Port Antonio rafts on river Jamaica.

The Blue Lagoon, also known as Blue Hole, was renamed after the 1980 film "The Blue Lagoon" with Brooke Shields, which was partially shot in the area. This natural spring fed lagoon in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica opens unto the sea through a narrow funnel. This is also the site of a famous Jacques Cousteau dive. Cousteau verified that the lagoon was not “bottomless” and in reality measured over 178 feet (54 meters) deep. The image shows a view of boats in the lagoon from breadfruit trees.
