Castleton Botanical Garden in Saint Mary, Jamaica was established on November 19, 1862 as a relocation site for the Bath Botanical Garden, located in Bath, Saint Thomas, which began to surfer after frequent flooding by the Sulfur River in the 19th century. The Castleton Gardens are located on both sides of Junction Road. Many species of plant specimens in the garden came from Kew Gardens in London, England. Plants pictured include ferns and crotons. Rose Hall Great House in Saint James, Jamaica is an example of Caribbean Georgian architecture, was built in 1770 by John Palmer, Custos of Saint Thomas, and his wife (for whom the house is named). It eventually became the residence of their grandnephew, John Rose Palmer. In 1820, Palmer married Annie Mae Paterson. Following Annie Palmer's death, the plantation house became home to legendary story of the White Witch of Rose Hall. The Great House is built using cut stone on the first two levels and stucco on the third and uppermost level. This image was taken prior to the beginning of its reconstruction in the 1960s. This monument to Christopher Columbus, called La Santa Maria, is near Seville, Saint Ann. It was erected to honor, Columbus’s discovery of Jamaica on May 5, 1494 and is located at the entrance to Maima-Seville Heritage Park. Columbus also spent over a year marooned in Seville, Saint Ann after his fourth voyage to the New World in 1503. This monument is at the entrance to the Maima-Seville Heritage Park. In the distance of the image is a church. Along the road into the park are flags from various countries, including the Great Britain and the United States.
