The restoration of Rose Hall Great House, an example of Caribbean Georgian architecture, began in the 1960s, after its purchase by John Rollins, former Lieutenant Governor of Delaware in the United States of America. This plantation house in Saint James, Jamaica is home to the legendary story of Annie Palmer, known as the White Witch of Rose Hall. Slide labeled Rose Hall (ghost) N. coast.

A Ford Cortina automobile driving on a dirt road towards the Maima-Seville Heritage Park, Jamaica. Christopher Columbus spent over a year marooned in Seville, Saint Ann after his fourth voyage to the New World in 1503. In 1509, Diego Columbus, Christopher Columbus's son and Governor of the Indies, appointed Juan de Esquivel Lieutenant in Jamaica. Upon his arrival, de Esquivel established the first European settlement and first capital in Jamaica called Sevilla la Nueva, now known as Seville. Slide labeled Jam. Seville near where Col. landed.

Rose Hall Great House in Saint James, Jamaica is an example of Caribbean Georgian architecture, was built in 1770 by John Palmer, Custos of Saint Thomas, and his wife (for whom the house is named). It eventually became the residence of their grandnephew, John Rose Palmer. In 1820, Palmer married Annie Mae Paterson. Following Annie Palmer's death, the plantation house became home to legendary story of the White Witch of Rose Hall. The Great House is built using cut stone on the first two levels and stucco on the third and uppermost level. This image was taken prior to the beginning of its reconstruction in the 1960s. Home to the legendary story of "the White Witch of Rose Hall." The Rose Hall great house in Saint James, Jamaica is said to be haunted by the ghost of Annie Palmer, its last mistress. Palmer is said to have learned voodoo while in Haiti. Legend also state that Palmer murdered her three husbands, delighted in terrorizing her slaves, and was brutally murdered by a former slave lover. Museum exhibit of what appears to be a kitchen scenery in the People’s Museum of Craft and Technology, Spanish Town, Saint Catherine, Jamaica. The exhibit includes a wax female figure, a fire place with an iron cooking pot, and wooden bowls. The sign in the exhibit reads “Meat Smokers – without refrigeration, the preservation of fish and meat was usually by smoking. In 1924, Maybelle ‘Ma’ Ewen opened the twelve room Doctor’s Cave Hotel, which later became known as the Casa Blanca Beach Hotel. This was the first hotel in Montego Bay, Saint James, Jamaica. Maima-Seville Heritage Park, owned and operated by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, is made up of three distinct areas: the original Spanish settlement - Sevilla La Nueva, a British sugar plantation, and forested regions. The following preserved structures can be found at the site: the Governor’s castle, a Spanish sugar mill, an artisan workshop, and the remains of a Spanish settlement, a Spanish church, and a British great house. Christopher Columbus spent over a year marooned here after his fourth voyage to the New World in 1503. Slide labeled Jam. where Col. landed - Seville.

Montego Bay, Saint James, Jamaica became popular as a sea bathing destination when in 1906 Doctor Alexander James McCatty donated the land to the community and rumors spread that the waters off this beach had health benefits. The beach received its name from Doctor McCatty and his physician friends and because the original entrance was through a cave, which was destroyed in a 1932 hurricane. The image is of tourists sea bathing in the Caribbean Sea while children play in the sand of Doctor's Cave Beach.
