Walter W. S. Cook standing in Nicholls Town, a town in northeastern Andros, Bahamas. Cook was the founding director of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, served as an art professor from 1932 to 1953, and was historian of Medieval Spanish art. He was a companion of William Junior Bryant during Bryant’s trips to Andros and New Providence in 1946. Andros, the largest island in the Bahamas, is made up of several islets and cays. Andros is also separated into three tidal areas: North, Middle and South Bights. In this image, Berkeley F. Jones walks through young mangroves growing in a tidal flat in South Bight, Andros, Bahamas. Jones attended Dartmouth with William Junior Bryant and was featured in the photograph entitled Barracuda’s Retribution in Bryant’s book “Flames of Life: A Pictorial Philosophy,” first published in 1961.
