Description : French Overseas Départements are no longer islands as far as their economy is concerned : costs of transatlantic transportation has become too low to provide local productions with sufficient protection. The growth of local unemployment is a threat today for these societies. Producing new goods or services for export seems hardly conceivable for the time being, as french Overseas departments did not find any comparative advantage so far. So, recovering domestic market seems the only way to get jobs. But such a policy would require that would be allowed to raise customs to protect their domestic market : a change for a new status in E.U. law would be necessary, and these ultraperipherical regions would have to be changed into overseas countries and territories.

Description : The globalization process, accelerating in the last 20 years, has raised important developmental stakes : on the one hand, economic questions with the multiplication of exchanges and its concentration in certain regions of the world; on the other hand globalization has also raised important social issues, with the acceleration of demographic flux and the whole question of "inclusion" associated with this; the issues are also environmental, through increased needs and resource limitations. Tourism represents the ideal vector of this globalization and the stakes it represents. By focusing on international tourism in a country in the South, this article seeks to better understand the stakes involved in developing international tourism resources, by seeking an answer to the question : In what ways can ecotourism constitute a real strategy for economic development, poverty alleviation, and contribute to economic growth and the protection of natural resources ? We will be examining this question in the context the Ranomafana National Park in Madagascar.

Description : Chlordecone is a persistent organochlorine pesticide widely used between 1972 and 1993 in the French West Indies to control the root borer in banana fields. Chlordecone use resulted in long-term pollution of soils, contamination of waters, of aquatic organisms, and of fields. Chlordecone is known to be neurotoxic, to increase prostate cancer, and to have negative effects on cognitive and motor development during infancy. In Guadeloupe, most of the freshwater species living in contaminated rivers exceed the French legal limit of 20 ?g·kg?1 wet weight. In the present study (ANR MACHLOMA), we chose a transcriptomic approach to study the cellular effects of chlordecone in the giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii, an important economical species in Guadeloupe.
