The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, reconstructed in the 1840s, is an Antiguan landmarked located in the island’s capital Saint John’s. This Anglican Cathedral is part of the Diocese of the North East Caribbean and Aruba. In this image is the south gate of the church featuring statues of Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Divine which were erected in 1789. PURPOSE: Multiple myeloma, a hematological malignancy generally affecting elderly people, was diagnosed at the beginning of the pregnancy of a 33-year-old woman. We carried out a literature review in order to evaluate the consequences of this cancer on pregnancy and of pregnancy on multiple myeloma, as to determine the specific follow-up required. METHODS: A systematic search for articles of interest published between 1949 and 16 November 2010 was performed in MEDLINE, SCOPUS and EMBASE, using the words "multiple myeloma" and "pregnancy". We identified 398 publications of potential interest, 20 of which were selected and included in the analysis. RESULTS: The selected articles included 26 cases. No specific risk factors were identified in pregnant women. The most common presentations were bone pain and/or anemia, as in the general population. Pregnancy seemed to have no effect on multiple myeloma progression. Most pregnancies went to term, with only two medical terminations and six cesareans performed before term, due to the severity of the cancer. No effect of the cancer or its treatment by chemotherapy during pregnancy was found in the children. CONCLUSION: Pregnancy does not seem to be contraindicated in women with multiple myeloma. Nevertheless, the management of pregnant patients with multiple myeloma is a diagnostic, therapeutic and social challenge, requiring a multidisciplinary approach and regular follow-up. Decisions should be taken based on the severity of the disease, its prognosis and maternal choice.

Ten to twenty percent of postpartum women experience anxiety or depressive disorders, which can have detrimental effects on the mother, child, and family. Little is known about the neural correlates of these affective disorders when they occur in mothers, but they do have unique neural profiles during the postpartum period compared with when they occur at other times in a woman's life. Given that the neural systems affected by postpartum anxiety and depression overlap and interact with the systems involved in maternal caregiving behaviors, mother–infant interactions are highly susceptible to disruption. Thus, there is an intricate interplay among maternal mental health, the mother–infant relationship, and the neurobiological mechanisms mediating them that needs to be the focus of future study.

Résumé : Cet article analyse les déterminants de la disposition des managers à formaliser les PME informelles en Côte d’Ivoire. Les données utilisées portent sur 400 entreprises du secteur informel enquêtées dans le cadre du projet CAPEC/CRDI. À partir des statistiques descriptives et de l’estimation d’un modèle Probit, l’étude met en évidence d’une part les variables qui influencent négativement et d’autre part celles qui influencent positivement la disposition à formaliser les PME. Il ressort de ces enquêtes que les taxes, le fait que l’entreprise soit dirigée par une femme, les coûts d’enregistrement, l’affiliation à une organisation politique et l’ignorance des procédures ont un effet négatif sur la disposition des managers à formaliser leurs entreprises. Les résultats montrent que la possession d’un plan d’affaires à la création, l’expérience du manager, la localisation, le niveau d’instruction supérieur, la simplification des procédures d’enregistrement affectent positivement la propension à formaliser les PME informelles. De même, les problèmes d’accès au financement et aux marchés publics conduisent les managers à la formalisation de leurs entreprises. Au regard de ces déterminants, la réduction des coûts de la formalisation, un meilleur accès des PME qui se formalisent au financement et aux marchés publics, le renforcement des capacités des opérateurs de l’informel, l’instauration d’une fiscalité incitative et la vulgarisation des procédures de déclaration s’avèrent des leviers importants de la formalisation.
This paper analyzes the determinants of the willingness of managers to formalize informal SMEs in Côte d'Ivoire. The data used relate to 400 informal sector enterprises surveyed under the CAPEC / IDRC project. On the basis of descriptive statistics and the estimation of a Probit model, the study highlights both variables that negatively influence and those that positively influence the willingness to formalize SMEs. These surveys show that taxes, the fact that the company is headed by a woman, registration costs, affiliation to a political organization and ignorance of procedures have a negative effect on the formalization of businesses.Moreover, the results show that ownership of a business plan at creation, managerial experience, location, higher education, simplification of registration procedures positively affect the propensity to formalize informal SMEs. Similarly, the problems of access to finance and public procurement lead to more formalization. In view of these determinants, the reduction in the costs of formalization, better access by SMEs to financing and public procurement, capacity building for informal operators, the introduction of tax incentives and the Dissemination procedures are important levers of formalization.

Résumé : La représentation que les femmes ont d’elles-mêmes et du monde va indéniablement conditionner leurs engagements dans la République des mâles. Or dans l’échelle de ses objectifs, la femme antillaise ne fait pas de son engagement militant une priorité. Certes, le contexte culturel dans lequel elle évolue n’est pas étranger à cette posture qu’elle adopte. Cependant, de façon paradoxale, elle se distingue par ses capacités d’entreprendre et de réussir dans le monde des affaires. Sans doute une longue tradition de débrouillardise pour la survie de sa progéniture et d’elle-même, en d’autres termes pour l’oikonomia, constituerait la matrice d’une telle compétence économique.
The view that women have of themselves and of the world undoubtedly conditions their commitments to the “Republic of males”. In its list of priorities, the Caribbean woman does not exhibit a militant commitment to sex equality. Certainly, the cultural context in which women live does not encourage this stance. Nevertheless, paradoxically, Caribbean women are able to succeed and prosper in the business world. Perhaps a long tradition of resourcefulness for the survival of her offspring and of herself, in other words for the oikonomia, constitutes the basis for such an economic competence. Introduction

Résumé : Au XXIème siècle, en France, en Martinique, au Québec, le monde du travail se caractérise encore par des inégalités professionnelles persistantes. La non mixité dans la fonction de direction générale ou autrement dit, la ségrégation verticale professionnelle dans l’entreprise serait-elle un invariant quels que soient les contextes ? Les référentiels culturels du dirigeant et du décideur demeurent encore masculins. Les représentations qui se sont construites sur les rôles sociaux des femmes et des hommes dans le travail se sont vite et durablement condensées en stéréotypes négatifs à l’égard des femmes.A partir de la théorie du noyau central d’Abric il semblait opportun de chercher à identifier les principaux déterminants qui ont présidé à la construction de ces stéréotypes. Ce noyau dur serait constitué de déterminismes historiques symboliques et sociaux. S’intéresser à la « déconstruction » des stéréotypes sexués en défaveur des femmes constitue un moyen de repenser l’action collective pour agir plus efficacement en matière de mixité professionnelle. En effet, plusieurs travaux ont montré que, sous certaines conditions, les éléments centraux d’une représentation pouvaient être sensibles à des informations venant les contredire. Réussir la mixité professionnelle entre les femmes et les hommes dans la fonction de direction générale des entreprises requiert, tant de la part de la politique gouvernementale que de celle des ressources humaines, des actions fortes relevant des enjeux de l’élimination des stéréotypes et de déconstruction du rôle social assigné à la femme depuis des millénaires.
In the 20th Century, in France, Martinique and Québec, the world of Work is still characterized by persistent professional disparities. Should the not-mixing be an invariant whatever the contexts, in the general managerial function, or in other words, the professional vertical segregation in the company ?The Manager’s and decider’s cultural reference tables remain still male. The representations built by themselves on the women and men social roles in work area are quickly and durably condensed in negative stereotypes against the women.From the theory of the central core of Abric (abric’score), it seems appropriate to try to identify the main determinants which presided over the construction of these stereotypes. This hard core would be constituted by symbolic and social historic determinism. Be interested in the "demolition" of the sexual stereotypes against the women establishes a way to rethink the collective action to act more effectively in regards to professional mixing. Indeed, several works showed that under certain conditions, the central elements of a representation could be sensitive to information coming to contradict them.To make a success of the professional mixing between the women and men in the general managerial function of companies requires so much on behalf of the government policy, a that of the human resources, strong actions raising stakes in the elimination of stereotypes and demolition of the social role assigned to the woman since millenniums.
