HAL CCSD Publibook Résumé : International audience
The article explores the influence of capitalism on the ideology and the cultural aspects of the Rastafarian movement in the Caribbean and in North America. Record labels have had a strong influence on the spreading of Rastafarian faith and on the music that rose from the movement. In Jamaica, Rastafarianism is a powerful touristic magnet. Tourist coming to Jamaica and hoping to discover its roots are bringing tangible resources to the economy of the island. I'm looking into the impact of these economic forces on the movement in Jamaica. Finally, I focus on the evolution of the most significant aspect of the movement since it became international during the seventies.
