A man on a bicycle riding away from the Black River post office and bank. The building houses a branch of the Government Savings Bank and the post office. The Government Savings Bank was established in 1870 and was opened daily. With the act of the 23rd of June 1973, the assets of the bank were used to establish the Workers Savings and Loan Bank. On the 31st of October 1671, Jamaica became the first British colony to establish a post office. This two story building has a zinc roof with fretwork and also sends telegraphs. Black River is part of a protected National Heritage District in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica. Slide labeled Jam. Black River (S.).

The Garden of Remembrance, pictured in the foreground, houses a stone cenotaph, a monument which serves as a memorial to Bahamians who lost their lives in World Wars I and II. In the background is the building currently known as the Ansbacher House, which is the home of Ansbacher (Bahamas) Limited. Previously the building housed the Bahamas International Trust Company Limited, known as “BITCO”, which was established in 1957. In 1989, BITCO was sold to the Ansbacher Group of Companies and which later changed its name to Ansbacher (Bahamas) Limited in 1994. Slide labeled Public Sq Nassau, April 12 '65.

Buildings near the harbor in Saint George’s, Saint George, Grenada. Many of the buildings’ architectural elements feature symmetrical designs. People can be seen walking along the harbor as automobiles pass by. Some of the retail establishments include “Jonas Browne & Hubbard Ltd.,” “The Royal Bank of Canada,” “The Nutmeg Bar & Restaurant,” “The Food Fair,” “BWIA,” and “Hankeys.” Jonas Browne and Hubbard Limited is a supermarket, which has been in business since the 1830s. Food Fair is also another supermarket chain. Trinidad and Tobago based BWIA, British West Indian Airways, was incorporated in 1943 by Lowell Yerex. The clock tower of Saint George's Anglican Church can be seen above the city. Saint George's Anglican Church was built in 1825 and suffered damage during Hurricane Ivan in 2004, losing its roof. The clock tower, constructed in 1904, still remains. Small boats can be seen in the harbor along with Merchant Vessel (MV) Geestcape, partially pictured, which entered service in 1966. In 1935, the Van Geest brothers in Spalding, United Kingdom started a horticultural business. The brothers later expanded their business to include a cargo service to carry horticultural produce, primarily bananas, from the Windward and Leeward Islands to Europe. Description : The methodology is supported on the basis of the experience acquired by a group of researchers, farmers and technicians from Cuba in the implementation of Participatory Plant Breeding. The proposal presents a number of methodological considerations with the necessary flexibility to allow proper application of the method and follows a logical sequence of activities to be executed in a manner that facilitates their implementation in various contexts in which it is of interest to apply. Its implementation, as such, is a learning process in action for all actors involved in it; also enables participants to understand the scale of the needs of the producers and breeding programs and dissemination of varieties in terms of the real interest of these. The methodology has 4 main phases: 1) diagnosis, 2) Collection of plant genetic resources, 3) Establishment of demonstration plots and development diversity fairs and 4) farmer experimentation. Besides the four basic stages of Participatory Plant Breeding in Cuba other tools that allowed the PPB constitute a successful process were used, these tools are: action learning as interest Schools Farmers Festivals innovation, exchange visits and retreats, capacity building of students on stage in local innovation and creation of local seed banks.

In 1534 Spanish Town, the capital of Saint Catherine, Jamaica was founded, becoming the oldest continuously inhabited city in Jamaica. The city was once known as Santo Jago de la Vega (Saint James of the Plain) and is built on the West Bank of the Rio Cobre. In the image is an excavation site with a brick foundation. Résumé : The study, which is based on repetitive bathymetric surveys, assesses changes and effects of one of the most important floods recorded in the Rhone Delta area: bottom morphology and sediment distribution in the Rhone outlet after the December 2003 flood are discussed by comparison between Digital Terrain maps (DTMs) of November 2003 and January 2004. The post-flood morphology shows that the whole of the system is active, mainly in the east. The channel of the Rhbne has been hollowed out on the left bank by more than 5 m, the eastern coast of the mouth has retreated 400 m, the mouth-bar has prograded 200 m and the slope of the delta front has increased by 0.19. The overlay of pre- and post-flood DTMs makes it possible to estimate the total volume deposited in the [0 to -20 m] zone as +7.8 X 10(6) m(3) (i.e. 0.88 m(3) m(-2)), which corresponds to 4 X 10(6) t of sediment. These values are compared with the average annual volume of 0.47 X 10(6) m(3) yr(-1) of sediment deposited in this zone between 1995 and 2003, as well as the average sediment load estimated at the Arles station (50 km upstream) for this flood event (3.1 x 10(6) t to 5.3 x 10(6) t). The acquisition of bathymetric measurements immediately before and after a major flood allows more than a simple morphological description; in addition, an analysis of the solid load transfer processes towards the prodelta is achievable. Three mechanisms are highlighted. Most of the material eroded in the channel and supplied to the delta front corresponds to fine sediment that drape homogeneously over the pre-flood morphology of the delta front. The transit of the coarsest sediment (primarily sand) is slowed down in the channel of the Rh6ne: this sediment builds up in relatively small areas, leading to the formation of gullies on the prodelta slope. The gullies have fixed positions and disappear gradually towards the west, following the progressive migration of the active band towards the east. These old features are not reactivated by floods occurring after their formation. During the flood, only a small volume of coarse sediment bypasses through the gullies, and the fine deposits are remobilised rapidly or compacted. Flood input concerns essentially the delta front, which traps 90% of the fluvial solid discharge between 0 and 20 m depth. The coarse prodelta supply is then due mainly to mass movements of unconsolidated material deposited beforehand on the top of the delta front. Consequently, the main nourishment of the prodelta does not occur directly during and/or immediately after a flood event, but is delayed by sediment being temporarily trapped on the delta front.
