The main difficulties in using FADs for fishing have now been identified. It concerns principally the design of FADs, their location, and also the type of management and exploitation. During the initial phase of FAD development, particular problems are mentioned, namely voluntary deterioration of the devices, marketing of the catches ... FADs exploitation in the area can still he optimised. The impact of FADs densities and locations (depth, distance from shore) on the concentration offish resources or on fisheryproduction is not established. Environmental impact of FADs is not weIl evaluated either. We would like to implement a workshop to facilitate data exchanges and coordination ofresearch programs between nearby countries. Le DCP (Dispositif de Concentration de Poissons) ancré est un moyen pour les pêcheurs artisans côtiers d'exploiter les ressources pélagiques du large généralement peu accessibles aux embarcations à faible rayon d'action. Les principales difficultés rencontrées pour le développement de la pêche à l'aide de DCP ont pu être identifiées. Elles portent sur la conception des DCP, leur localisation ainsi que sur leur mode de gestion et d'exploitation. Au cours de la phase initiale du développement des DCP, des difficultés particulières sont mentionnées : détériorations volontaires des dispositifs, mévente des prises, ... L'exploitation des DCP dans la région peut être optimisée. L'effet de la densité des DCP et de leur localisation (profondeur, distance à la côte, ... ), sur les concentrations de poissons ou sur les prises des professionnels, n'est pas connu. L'impact environnemental des DCP est encore mal apprécié. L'objectif de cette présentation est de proposer la mise en place d'un groupe de travail destiné à faciliter les échanges de données et la coordination de programmes de recherche entre pays. Ecosystem trends: evidence for agreement between fishers' perceptions and scientific information Auteur(s) : Rochet, Marie-joelle Prigent, M Bertrand, Jacques Carpentier, Andre Coppin, Franck Delpech, Jean-paul Fontenelle, G Foucher, Eric Éditeur(s) : Oxford university press Résumé : The results of a survey on fishers' perceptions of recent changes in the eastern English Channel ecosystem carried out in 2006 were compared with fishery and bottom-trawl survey data. A hypothesis-testing framework was used, testing the null hypothesis that fishers' statements were true, which permitted evaluation of both agreement and disagreement. Overall good agreement between fishers' statements and scientific data was found, and both sources suggested that the fish community in the Channel is undergoing large changes, among which are decreases in some commercially important species; in addition, a number of human pressures impact the ecosystem. Fishers had an accurate perception of changes and their time-frames, but not necessarily of their causes. They had a greater power than survey data to detect recent changes, showing that fishers' perceptions have great potential as early warning signals.
