Pictured are several "bohíos", thatched palm wood huts used by the pre-Colombian indians of Cuba. This photographed is interesting in that one can see how the use of the bohios has progressed. The bohio on the right represents how they would have been used by the early indian population, while the one on the left of it is a more developed stage. The one on the left has walls, an idea developed by the Spanish that moved to the countryside and used the indian bohio, yet adapted ideas used in the dwellings that they were more familiar with.

This photograph is of a typical middle-class home in Camaguey. The large earthen jars in front of the home is very popular in the region and is called a tinajóne. The tinajóns were first used to store grains, wines, and oils brought to Cuba by Spanish immigrants that settled in the area in the 1700s. The permanent lack of water of the first settlements changed the function of the tinajones from the traditional use to serving as water storage containers. It is popularly believed that during the 19th century, every single house in Camaguey used to have at least one tinajon. The water being stored was used for drinking and to cooking.

The region where this picture was taken was not mentioned. This is a middleclass home with a large Royal Poinciana Tree in the front yard. It also has a swing in the yard and is surrounded by white picket fence. The Royal Poinciana tree is grown as an ornamental tree and is common to Cuba's rural areas and is also known in Cuba as Flamboyan tree.

The photographer labeled this picture "center of island." This is a photograph of the home of a poor peasant family. The home is of the bohio, thatched palm wood huts On the bottom of the outside walls you can see large rocks that are placed there to help with the rough winds, particularly during the hurricane season. There are many flowers pots hanging from the house as decorations. A mother and child are standing in front of the house while a dog lays asleep a few feet away. The back of the house is lined with royal palm trees.

The Presidential Palace in Havana housed of all Cuban presidents from Mario García Menocal to Fulgencio Batista. It became the Museum of the Revolution during the years following the Cuban Revolution. The Spanish name is el Museo de la Revolución, and is located in the Old Havana section of Havana. On the bottom left of the photograph is a typical street which are very popular in the main cities of Cuba.
The former Presidential Palace was designed by the Cuban architect Carlos Maruri and the Belgian architect Paul Belau and was inaugurated in 1920 by President Mario García Menocal. It remained the Presidential Palace until 1959. The building has Neo-Classical elements, and was decorated by Tiffany & Co. of New York.

Pictured is the dome of the President Palace with a Cuban flag. The former Presidential Palace, built between 1913 & 1920, now houses el Museo de la Revolución. The palace was the place of the failed assassination attempt on US-friendly dictator Batista in March 1957, by revolutionary student leader Jose Echeverria. The museum follows Cuba's history from pre-Columbian culture to present day socialism.

The Manacas Iznaga Tower is located in Valle de los Ingenios in Trinidad, Cuba, which was a major center for sugar mills. The tower stands approximately 45 feet tall and was used by the sugarcane plantation owner in order to keep watch over his slaves in the fields. It was built in 1816 and stands seven stories high. The ringing of the bell signified various messages, but mostly the beginning and end of the work day for the slaves in the sugar fields. A local legend states that the tower was built by Pedro and Alejo Iznaga to house Alejo's wife, who had been unfaithful to him. The photograph also shows the remains of the Iznaga plantation, as well as several Royal Palm trees and a Poinciana tree in the background.
