Andros, the largest island in the Bahamas, is made up of several islets and cays. Andros is also separated into three tidal areas: North, Middle and South Bights. In this image, Berkeley F. Jones walks through young mangroves growing in a tidal flat in South Bight, Andros, Bahamas. Jones attended Dartmouth with William Junior Bryant and was featured in the photograph entitled Barracuda’s Retribution in Bryant’s book “Flames of Life: A Pictorial Philosophy,” first published in 1961. Four people walk a beach on Great Guana Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. The group is made up of one man with a pipe in his mouth, a woman dressed in a white bathrobe, another man wearing a red shirt with the figure of a woman and plants, and another person wearing light colored pants and a long sleeve shirt. During February of 1957, this group of people travelled on the boat “Isabella” to many of the smaller islands of the Abacos, including Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Allen Cay, and Grand Cay. Walter W. S. Cook (wearing shorts) walks with another companion towards the marina on North Cat Cay, Bimini, Bahamas. Cook, who was the founding director of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, served as an art professor from 1932 to 1953, and was historian of Medieval Spanish art. North Cat Cay was purchased in 1931 by Louis Wasey as a private island and is presently (2013) owned by members of the Cat Cay Yacht Club. In the image, the area near the walkway is planted with palm trees. Various types of boats and yachts are docked in the marina. Slide labeled Bryant Cat Cay, Mar '46.
