Description : Odile François-Haugrin commence par donner quelques exemples des principaux usages du goyavier en tant que plante médicinale. Il en ressort que le goyavier est très reconnu pour ses vertus curatives dans le traitement contre la diarrhée. D'autres molécules présentes dans la plante, valorisent ses vertus anti-inflammatoires et antidouleur. La recherche à laquelle participe l'intervenante comporte deux axes et s'intéresse aux molécules présentes dans le fruit lui-même. Le premier axe de cette recherche concerne la conduite d'études nutritionnelles de la goyave. Cet axe met en évidence les propriétés antioxydantes de certaines molécules présentes dans le fruit. D'autre part, il s'oriente sur la création de produits dérivés innovants, répondant aux enjeux économiques, sociaux et commerciaux du territoire martiniquais, tout en conservant la richesse originelle du fruit. Le second axe cible la recherche cellulaire et met l'accent sur l'effet anticancéreux du lycopène présent dans la goyave.

Description : Pierre Saint-Amand de Yale University nous parle de « La Liberté générale ou Les colons à Paris », une pièce théâtrale jouée pour la première fois le 10 août 1796 au Cap-Français à Sain-Domingue. Il s'agit d'une comédie politique écrite par un certain Citoyen B. Ce fut le pseudonyme d'un républicain anti-esclavagiste du nom de François Marie Bottu. Cette révélation a été faite par l'historien Jean-Charles Benzaken car François Marie Bottu n'a pas voulu indiquer son identité comme auteur de ladite pièce. Le titre de cette dernière renvoie à la proclamation de la liberté générale des esclaves par le Commissaire civil Sonthonax.

Description : La promesse, selon la philosophe britannique J.L. Austin (Quand dire c'est faire, 1962), est un acte de langage qui s'engage et, à travers cet engagement, s'inscrit dans un futur, affirmant ainsi une félicité à venir et non immédiate. La notion de terre promise comporte une nature proleptique qui se projette dans un avenir que l'on veut certain. C'est la promesse d'accéder un jour à une terre, une nation, un pays rêvé. Lors de l'élection présidentielle de Barack Obama en 2008, les Amériques ont eu pour la première fois l'impression d'accéder à cette terre promise, c'est ce qu'on a appelé l'Amérique post-raciale. Un mois après l'investiture d'Obama, Edouard Glissant et Patrick Chamoiseau publiaient L'intraitable beauté du monde (2009), une ode à une créolisation enfin accomplie grâce à Obama. Glissant et Chamoiseau écrivaient alors « M. Barack Obama, nous pensons qu'il a entendu le cri du monde, la voix des peuples et le chant joyeux ou meurtri des pays ». De même, aux États-Unis, les intellectuels ont loué l'avènement de cette Amérique post-raciale qui aurait été nettoyée de son histoire de ségrégation raciale et dont les lois contre la discrimination raciale seraient ainsi devenues obsolètes. Il s'agira dans cette présentation, de penser à l'impossible, c'est-à-dire au lendemain de la terre promise, une terre qui se voulait pourtant toujours à venir et différée. Dans le cadre des événements autour du mouvement Black Lives Matter, les émeutes anti-racistes à Ferguson et à Baltimore qui rappellent le mouvement des droits civils des années 60, il est temps de soulever la question du post-racial en tant que promesse et idylle ; Comment devons-nous interpréter aujourd'hui cette créolisation qui se voulait enfin accomplie ? L'ère post-raciale, est-elle, ou fut elle, vraiment la terre promise des Amériques ?

Résumé : Ants have evolved venoms rich in peptides and proteins used for predation, defense, and communication. However, they remain extremely understudied due to the minimal amount of venom secreted by each ant. The present study investigated the differences in the proteome and peptidome of the venom from the bullet ant, Paraponera clavata. Venom samples were collected from a single colony either by manual venom gland dissection or by electrical stimulation and were compared using proteomic methods. Venom proteins were separated by 2D-PAGE and identified by nanoLC-ESI-QTOF MS/MS. Venom peptides were initially separated using C18 reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, then analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS. The proteomic analysis revealed numerous proteins that could be assigned a biological function (total 94), mainly as toxins, or roles in cell regulation and transport. This investigation found that ca. 73% of the proteins were common to venoms collected by the two methods. The peptidomic analysis revealed a large number of peptides (total 309) but with <20% shared by the two collection methods. There was also a marked difference between venoms obtained by venom gland dissection from different ant colonies. These findings demonstrate the rich composition and variability of P. clavata venom.

Ethnopharmacological relevancePsidium acutangulum Mart. ex DC is a small tree used by the Wayana Amerindians from the Upper-Maroni in French Guiana for the treatment of malaria.Aim of the studyIn a previous study, we highlighted the in vitro antiplasmodial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential of the traditional decoction of P. acutangulum aerial parts. Our goal was then to investigate on the origin of the biological activity of the traditional remedy, and eventually characterize active constituents.Materials and methodsLiquid-liquid extractions were performed on the decoction, and the antiplasmodial activity evaluated against chloroquine-resistant FcB1 ([3H]-hypoxanthine bioassay) and 7G8 (pLDH bioassay) P. falciparum strains, and on a chloroquine sensitive NF54 ([3H]-hypoxanthine bioassay) P. falciparum strain. The ethyl acetate fraction (D) was active and underwent bioguided fractionation. All the isolated compounds were tested on P. falciparum FcB1 strain. In vitro anti-inflammatory activity (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNFα) of the ethyl acetate fraction and of an anti-Plasmodium active compound, was concurrently assessed on LPS-stimulated human PBMC and NO secretion inhibition was measured on LPS stimulated RAW murine macrophages. Cytotoxicity of the fractions and pure compounds was measured on VERO cells, L6 mammalian cells, PBMCs, and RAW cells.ResultsFractionation of the ethyl acetate soluble fraction (IC50 ranging from 3.4 to <1 µg/mL depending on the parasite strain) led to the isolation of six pure compounds: catechin and five glycosylated quercetin derivatives. These compounds have never been isolated from this plant species. Two of these compounds (wayanin and guaijaverin) were found to be moderately active against P. falciparum FcB1 in vitro (IC50 5.5 and 6.9 µM respectively). We proposed the name wayanin during public meetings organized in June 2015 in the Upper-Maroni villages, in homage to the medicinal knowledge of the Wayana population. At 50 µg/mL, the ethyl acetate fraction (D) significantly inhibited IL-1β secretion (−46%) and NO production (−21%), as previously observed for the decoction. The effects of D and guiajaverin (4) on the secretion of other cytokines or NO production were not significant.ConclusionsThe confirmed antiplasmodial activity of the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of the decoction and of the isolated compounds support the previous results obtained on the P. acutangulum decoction. The antiplasmodial activity might be due to a mixture of moderately active non-toxic flavonoids. The anti-inflammatory activities were less marked for ethyl acetate fraction (D) than for the decoction.
