In the distance is a green painted building and antennas, which are part of the United States Air Force missile tracking station that was located on Allen Cays, Exuma, Bahamas. During February of 1957, this group of people travelled on the boat “Isabella” to many of the smaller islands of the Abacos, including Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Allen Cay, and Grand Cay. View of young and older palm trees on a beach on North Cat Cay. Cat Cay refers to two islands in the Bahamas, North Cat Cay and South Cat Cay which is uninhabited. North Cat Cay was purchased in 1931 by Louis Wasey as a private island and is presently (2013) owned by members of the Cat Cay Yacht Club. In the distance is the stone Gun Cay lighthouse, which was built in 1836. The light house’s top half is painted red and the lower half is painted white. Slide labeled Bryant Cat Cay, Mar '46.

Tower Isle Hotel was originally built in 1949, by founder Abraham ‘Abe’ Issa, as the first year-round resort on the Central North coast of Jamaica. Eventually, Issa earned the nicknamed “Mr. Jamaica” and later became the first chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board. Tower Isle was later renamed Couples Tower Isle. The hotel, pictured, is surrounded by palms and is built near the shoreline. Tourists can be seen on the beach while boats are anchored in the ocean. Slide labeled Tower Isle.

Morphodynamics of sandy, macrotidal, embayed beaches is complex because of the numerous physical processes interacting at the same location over a wide range of temporal scales. As most of these processes are controlled by beach morphology, dynamic feedbacks are generally observed between hydro- and morphodynamics. Investigating short-term processes is essential in order to improve long term morphological prediction. A key question is to understand how beach slope reacts to forcing conditions, in particular the response time of the beach profile, how long the transient state lasts. This study deals with the spatial and temporal responses of beach morphology to varying incident conditions. Here we report main observations, preliminary results and on-going investigations on the DYNATREZ1 field campaign, which was conducted in the framework of the National Observation Service Dynalit. Beach profiles are shown to adapt rapidly to forcing conditions, within two days, with more intense variations observed in the high tide swash zone. The presence of infragravity waves and their dissipation on the beach is highlighted. It is likely that the very large variability in beach slope observed over a single neapspring cycle is responsible for the accordingly large variability in wave skewness, asymmetry and breaking processes, and thus in sediment fluxes and morphological changes.

The Cuban Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition at Rancho Boyerso, just outside of Havana, will attract many visitors. Will P. Taylor, Manager of the National Hotel of Cuba, reports a larger number of reservations than anytime during the past five years. A well known orchestra is under the direction of Sr. Armando Romeu, Jr. The daily tea and dinner dances are very popular, All in all, the National Hotel of Cuba looks forward to the most active season in its history.
