Résumé : Schemes optimisation for genetic improvement for growth of Penaeus stylirostris requires the development of technologies for grading shrimps easily. This work shows that bar and mesh graders are very suitable for early selection at post-larval stages, as long as early growth is heritable. Experimental data sets lead to the equations which give the grading weight as a function of the dimensions of the graders. Mesh graders which allow an earlier selection than bar graders (PL19 instead of PL25) open a new way to implement experimental selection into production hatcheries.
L’optimisation des schémas d’amélioration génétique de la croissance de Penaeus stylirostris, passe nécessairement par la mise au point des techniques de tri rapide et facile à mettre en oeuvre par les acteurs de la filière. Ce travail montre que les trieurs à barreaux ou à maille sont des outils adaptés à une sélection précoce en sortie d’écloserie, dans la mesure où la croissance précoce s’avèrerait héritable. Les tris expérimentaux ont permis d’établir les formules permettant de calculer les poids de tris en fonction des dimensions des trieurs. Les trieurs à maille qui permettent de trier les crevettes dès PL19 ouvrent des perspectives intéressantes pour intégrer une démarche de sélection expérimentale au sein des écloseries de production.

Résumé : The Nephrops trawl fishery is one of the most important fisheries in the Bay of Biscay. The fishery management essentially relies on conservation measures, a total at I owed catch (TAC) for Nephrops together with a mini mum landing size (MLS) and minimum trawl mesh size (70 mm stretched mesh). These measures have failed to prevent high discard levels of many species that characterize the fishery. Nephrops trawlers thus discard about half of their Nephrops catches in numbers (a third in weight) of which only 30% survive. Nephrops discards mainly occur in younger Nephrops age groups below the MLS. This is a waste for the already overexploited Nephrops stock as well as for the fleet. Based on a bio-economic simulation model, the paper analyses the consequences of several scenarios of improving Nephrops selectivity. The potential impacts of these scenarios on Nephrops biomass, landings, discards and economic indicators (e.g. rent) are examined and a cost-benefit analysis of each scenario is carried out. We show that a better exploitation pattern would benefit fisheries that have high level of discards. Reducing non-commercial Nephrops discards leads to positive net present values of rent with better value realized from the production potential and limited short-term losses for the fishing units. By taking account of the economic dynamics of increasing effort however, we show that selectivity measures are insufficient. Regulating access to the fishery is also required to ensure the sustainability of the fishery and a better exploitation of the production potential. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Résumé : The survival rate of Nephrops escaping through the cod-end was recently studied in the Bay of Biscay. Over the 45mm meshed cod-end was put a 15mm meshed net in order to retain the Nephrops escaping though, the cod-end. Soon after hauling escaped Nephrops were returned on the sea-bed into cages. After an inversion of 60-78 hours, the average survived rate was about 70 %. However it was found increasing with the size of individuals. The value obtained, which is only a result of- the action oh several factors, may be lower than the true value. I he evolution, of this biological parameter according to the mesh size is discussed in the scope of assessments
Le taux de survie des langoustines s'échappant à travers les mailles d'un cul de chalut a été étudié dans le Golfe de Gascogne. Sur le cul de chalut muni d'un maillage de 45 mm a été ajoutée une double-pêche en un maillage de 15mm: afin de recueillir les langoustines échappées. Les langoustines ainsi retenues ont été ré immergées dans des casiers. Après une immersion de 60-78 heures, le taux ce survie moyen était de l'ordre de 70%- Le taux de survie augmente avec la taille ces individus. Le taux de survie moyen obtenu n'est qu'une résultante de divers facteurs. Cette résultante pourrait dans le cas présent, être un minorant. L'évolution de ce paramètre biologique en fonction de la taille des vailles est, en outre, discutée.
