This image shows boats anchored beside a dock while two row boats are tethered to the shore. One of the boats near the dock is the "Isabella," which belongs to John Richard Yeend, also known as Captain Jack R. Yeend. During February of 1957, “Isabella” travelled to many of the smaller islands of the Abacos including Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Allen Cay, and Grand Cay. The British Colonial Hotel, now the British Colonial Hilton Hotel, is located on the site of Fort Nassau which was demolished in 1837. By 1900, Henry Flagler had built the original Colonial Hotel, the only beachfront hotel in Nassau, which was destroyed by fire. A Mediterranean-style replica opened in 1922. The hotel offers views of Nassau Harbor and was the location for two James Bond movies. In the picture, a man is walking from the hotel along a walking path decorated with large stone vases and benches. Slide labeled Bryant Nassau Mar .'46, British Colonial Hotel.

The Abacos in the Bahamas are known for their tradition of building boats by hand with Man of War Cay being known as Abacos’ boat-building center. The Abacos’ crest also features a sail boat. This image features palm thatch roofed pavilions. Under one of the pavilions, three men view a boat under construction. The ground is covered with wood shavings and piles of wood. During February of 1957, this group of people travelled on the boat “Isabella” to many of the smaller islands of the Abacos, including Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Allen Cay, and Grand Cay. Cook, who was the founding director of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, served as an art professor from 1932 to 1953, and was historian of Medieval Spanish art. North Cat Cay was purchased in 1931 by Louis Wasey as a private island and is presently (2013) owned by members of the Cat Cay Yacht Club. The Abacos are a group of islands and cays in the Bahamas that form a 120-mile-long chain stretching over 650 square miles. Great Abaco is the second largest island in The Bahamas with one third of the country’s population. Many of smaller islands and cays in the area were settled by British Loyalist after the American Revolutionary War. The Abacos are known for their tradition of building boats by hand with Man of War Cay being known as Abacos’ boat-building center. The Abacos’ crest also features a sail boat. This image features boats anchored in the harbor of Man of War Cay. This image was also featured in William Junior Bryant’s book “Flames of Life: A Pictorial Philosophy,” first published in 1961.
