Pictured is the dome of the President Palace with a Cuban flag. The former Presidential Palace, built between 1913 & 1920, now houses el Museo de la Revolución. The palace was the place of the failed assassination attempt on US-friendly dictator Batista in March 1957, by revolutionary student leader Jose Echeverria. The museum follows Cuba's history from pre-Columbian culture to present day socialism.
The former Presidential Palace (presently Museo de la Revolución) was designed by the Cuban architect Carlos Maruri and the Belgian architect Paul Belau and was inaugurated in 1920 by President Mario García Menocal. It remained the Presidential Palace until 1959. The building has Neo-Classical elements.

The Central Highway was commissioned by President Machado and presented and approved by the Cuban Congress in 1925. Construction began in 1927 The price of the construction was $75,870,000, or more than $107,000 per mile. (705.6 miles) The highway almost runs the entire length of the island from Pinar del Rio, all the way to Santiago de Cuba. It cover a distance of just over 700 miles.

Cat Cay refers to two islands in the Bahamas, North Cat Cay and South Cat Cay which is uninhabited. North Cat Cay was purchased in 1931 by Louis Wasey as a private island and is presently (2013) owned by members of the Cat Cay Yacht Club. This image shows yachts and sail boats docked at the North Cat Cay marina. One of the yachts is flying a United States of America flag while another is called “Elsa B.” Two men, one dressed in a khaki uniform, stand on the dock. Polo known as the game of kings was brought to Jamaica by the British in 1882 when they established one of the oldest polo clubs in the world. Cook, who was the founding director of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, served as an art professor from 1932 to 1953, and was historian of Medieval Spanish art. The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of 40 km of cycling on the biomechanical and cardiorespiratory responses measured during the running segment of a classic triathlon, with particular emphasis on the time course of these responses. Seven male triathletes underwent four successive laboratory trials: (1) 40 km of cycling followed by a 10-km triathlon run (TR), (2) a 10-km control run (CR) at the same speed as TR, (3) an incremental treadmill test, and (4) an incremental cycle test. The following ventilatory data were collected every minute using an automated breath-by-breath system: pulmonary ventilation VE, l x min[-1]), oxygen uptake (VO2, ml x min(-1) x kg[-1]), carbon dioxide output (ml x min[-1]), respiratory equivalents for oxygen (VE/VO2) and carbon dioxide (VE/VCO2), respiratory exchange ratio (R) respiratory frequency (f, breaths x min[-1]), and tidal volume (ml). Heart rate (HR, beats x min[-1]) was monitored using a telemetric system. Biomechanical variables included stride length (SL) and stride frequency (SF) recorded on a video tape. The results showed that the following variables were significantly higher (analysis of variance, P < 0.05) for TR than for CR: VO2 [51.7 (3.4) vs 48.3 (3.9) ml x kg(-1) x min(-1), respectively], VE [100.4 (1.4) l x min(-1) vs 84.4 (7.0) l x min(-1)], VE/VO2 [24.2 (2.6) vs 21.5 (2.7)] VE/VCO2 [25.2 (2.6) vs 22.4 (2.6)], f[55.8 (11.6) vs 49.0 (12.4) breaths x min(-1)] and HR [175 (7) vs 168 (9) beats x min(-1)]. Moreover, the time needed to reach steady-state was shorter for HR and VO2 (1 min and 2 min, respectively) and longer for VE (7 min). In contrast, the biomechanical parameters, i.e. SL and SF, remained unchanged throughout TR versus CR. We conclude that the first minutes of the run segment after cycling in an experimental triathlon were specific in terms of VO2 and cardiorespiratory variables, and nonspecific in terms of biomechanical variables.

Résumé : Cet article aborde la création du projet Observatoire de Tourisme et Culture de la Serra Gaúcha qui, dans son étape initiale, inclut les dix villes de l’Agglomération urbaine nord-est de l’État de Rio Grande Do Sul (AUNe). La création de l’Observatoire a été prévue dans le projet de Valorisation du Tourisme intégré à l’Identité culturelle des Territoires (VICTUR), financé par le Programme URB-AL, de la Commission européenne. Le programme de Maîtrise en Tourisme de l’Université de Caxias do Sul coordonne et développe les activités de recherche de l’Observatoire, dont l’objectif principal est de contribuer au développement régional, par un processus de socialisation de connaissances, au moyen d’un portail électronique (www.observatur.org.br). L’initiative démontre la possible coopération et la présence réelle d’échanges entre les organismes publics et privés pour la réalisation de projets d’intérêts communs qui mettent en valeur le capital social régional.
This article discusses the creation of Project Monitoring Tourism and Culture of the Serra Gaucha, which in its initial stage, includes the ten cities of the urban north-eastern state of Rio Grande Do Sul (ELL). The creation of the Observatory has been provided in the proposed Integrated Tourism Enhancement of the Cultural Identity Territories (victuri), funded by the URB-AL, the European Commission. The program in Tourism Degree from the University of Caxias do Sul coordinates and develops research activities of the Observatory, whose main objective is to contribute to regional development, um process of socialization of knowledge, by means of an electronic portal (www.observatur.org.br). The initiative demonstrates the cooperation and the possible presence of real exchange between public and private projects of common interests that enhance the regional capital.
