Chromis durvillei : une nouvelle espèce de Pomacentridae de l’île de la Réunion (France, océan Indien) et premier signalement pour l’île de Chromis axillaris Auteur(s) : Quero, Jean-claude Spitz, Jerome Vayne, Jean-jacques Éditeur(s) : Société Française d’Ichtyologie Résumé : Following the volcanic eruption of April 2007 at Reunion Island, 12 specimens of the pomacentrid genus Chromis were collected at sea surface. One of these fishes was a C. chrysura known from the reef Island fauna. The others have enlarged eyes. Among them were one C. axillaris (Bennett, 1831), new for the Island fauna, and ten specimens of a new Chromis species, described here under the name C. durvillei. This new species of deep dwelling Chromis is distinguishable by large sized eyes 1.9 to 2.4 in the head length, D. XIII, 12-13, 25 to 26 gill-rakers on the first gill arch, three spiniform procurrent caudal rays, without black or dark brown spot or band on the body, pectorals or caudal peduncle. C. axillaris, C. woodsi, C. unipa, C. okamurai, C. struhsakeri and generally C. mirationis have 14 spinous dorsal rays. C. abyssicola and rarely C. mirationis have 13 spinous dorsal rays but two spiniform procurrent caudal rays and a dark axillary spot on pectorals. Argyripnus hulleyi a new species of Sternoptychidae (Stomiiformes) from Reunion Island (Indian Ocean) Auteur(s) : Quero, Jean-claude Spitz, Jerome Vayne, Jean-jacques Éditeur(s) : Société Française d'Ichtyologie Résumé : Following the volcanic eruption of April 2007, nine specimens of Argyripnus (family Sternoptychidae, order Stomiiformes) were among the fish caught at the sea surface at Reunion Island (Indian Ocean). Seven species were described in this genus: A. ephippiatus Gilbert & Cramer, 1897 from Hawaii, A. iridescens McCulloch, 1926 from Australia. A. atlanticus Maul, 1952 from Madeira, A. brocki Struhsaker, 1973 from Hawaii, Argyripnus sp. Yamamoto in Okamura et al., 1982 from Japan, A. electronus Parin, 1992 from the South-east Pacific and A. pharos Harold & Lancaster, 2003 from the Indian Ocean and the central-west Pacific. The Argyripnus from Reunion Island is easily distinguished from the other species by the position of the anus just before the beginning of the anal fin (about half distance between the pelvic base and the beginning of the anal fin in the other species). The new Argyripnus from Reunion Island is described under the name A. hulleyi. Some indications are given on the bathymetric and geographical distributions of all the Argyripnus species. After a brief comparison of the characteristics of the seven species, an identification key is provided. A Quero, Jean-claude Éditeur(s) : Société Française d'Ichtyologie Résumé : In the present paper a new genus, Diretmoides, and a new species, Diretmoides parini, of the berycomorph family Diretmidae is described. The hitherto single genus of the family, Diretmus Johnson, 1863, therefore becomes monotypic while the new genus includes two species pauciradiatus (Woods, 1973) and parini sp. nov. The genus Diretmus is mainly charactcrized by three features (1) by its anus placed immediately anterior to the anal fin, (2) by a prepelvic ridge of ventral scutes and (3) by the high number of bony lamellae on the upper third of the operculum. The species of Diretmoides on the other hand have (1) their anus midway between the pelvics and the anal fin, (2) the ventral midline anterior to their pelvics is flat and is covered by normal body-scales and (3) there are only a few lamellae on the upper third of the operculum. Juveniles of the two Diretmoides-species differ from each other in their colour pattern, the adolescents and adults in meristic characters. All described species live meso-to bathypelagically. D. argenteus is widely distributed in tropical and temperate waters of all oceans. The two Diretmoides -species also live in the Atlantic as well as in the Pacific. However there is only one record of Diretmoides parini and none of D. pauciradiatus from the Indian Ocean. In addition to the described species, indication is given of the presumable existence of a third Diretmoides-species from off Japan. Artificial keys to adults and juveniJes are given at the end of this paper. Distribution et taxonomie des Howella (Perciformes, percichthyidae) de l'Atlantique Auteur(s) : Post, A Éditeur(s) : Société Française d'Ichtyologie Résumé : On the basis of geographical distribution and morphological analysis of the Atlantic Howella , two subspecies of H. brodiei have been established, H. brodiei brodiei for the IndoPacific and H. brodiei atlanlica for the tropical and boreal Atlantic. H. sherborni has been recognized as a separate species, probably distributed circumglobally in southern Ocean but presently recorded only from the South Atlantic, the central South Pacific and from off southern and south-eastern Australia respectively. H. b. atlanlica and H. b. brodiei are distinct by having 3 scale rows between the lateral line and the origin of the second dorsal fin, while H. sherborni has 4 scale rows there. H. sherborni is in geographical contact with the two subspecies while H. b. brodiei and H. b. atlantica are geographically isolated from each other. The new subspecies, H. b. atlantica occurs in the North Atlantic and the tropical South Atlantic. Specimens from 75 mm SL and longer, predominantly occur in the boreal areas, while specimens less than that length occur in the tropical areas respectively. A day and night bathymetric distribution and a size-depth stratification have been observed.
