In 325 surveys, 518 visuai observations and acoustic 202 have identified four families, 14 genera and 17 species, representing a cumulative total ofnearly 6000 cetaceans assessed within 15 miles of coastal water ofGuadeloupe. Dolphins (Delphinidae), constitute 33% ofthe 36 species currently known in the world. Six rare species have been described. Among the baleen whales, the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) migrate into coastal waters from December to late May and is the species most encountered. With individual monitoring by telemetry, it has been proved that at least one individual ofthis species could stay in the archipelago over eight days. In 2010, a humpback whale in the Bay ofmold were followed for more than 6300 km to the south ofIceland to the Faroe Islands. A first estimate ofstock over the period 2008 to 20 Il suggests that 442 humpback whales CV% 19.2995% [302-645] would evolve in the coastal archipelago. <..';:-.'") Carnivores are the most abundant, with among them, the spotted dolphin (Stenella attenuata) whose estimate indicates that 270 to 300 individuals are present over 1361 km 2 with a high specifie density (0.052 individuals / km 2,% CV 90, 16), mainly in the Leeward coast. The analysis ofthe spatial distribution and environmental factors indicates a marked geographical sectorisation ofpopulations in coastal areas, with distributions specifically influenced by bathymetry, latitude, distance to the coast and the isobath 200, depending on the species http://www.theses.fr/2012AGUY0520/document | Partager |
Molecular Phylogeny of the Astrophorida (Porifera, Demospongiae(rho)) Reveals an Unexpected High Level of Spicule Homoplasy Auteur(s) : Cardenas, Paco Xavier, Joana R. Reveillaud, Julie Schander, Christoffer Rapp, Hans Tore Éditeur(s) : Public Library Science Résumé : Background: The Astrophorida (Porifera, Demospongiae(rho)) is geographically and bathymetrically widely distributed. Systema Porifera currently includes five families in this order: Ancorinidae, Calthropellidae, Geodiidae, Pachastrellidae and Thrombidae. To date, molecular phylogenetic studies including Astrophorida species are scarce and offer limited sampling. Phylogenetic relationships within this order are therefore for the most part unknown and hypotheses based on morphology largely untested. Astrophorida taxa have very diverse spicule sets that make them a model of choice to investigate spicule evolution. Methodology/Principal Findings: With a sampling of 153 specimens (9 families, 29 genera, 89 species) covering the deep- and shallow-waters worldwide, this work presents the first comprehensive molecular phylogeny of the Astrophorida, using a cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene partial sequence and the 59 end terminal part of the 28S rDNA gene (C1-D2 domains). The resulting tree suggested that i) the Astrophorida included some lithistid families and some Alectonidae species, ii) the sub-orders Euastrophorida and Streptosclerophorida were both polyphyletic, iii) the Geodiidae, the Ancorinidae and the Pachastrellidae were not monophyletic, iv) the Calthropellidae was part of the Geodiidae clade (Calthropella at least), and finally that v) many genera were polyphyletic (Ecionemia, Erylus, Poecillastra, Penares, Rhabdastrella, Stelletta and Vulcanella). Conclusion: The Astrophorida is a larger order than previously considered, comprising ca. 820 species. Based on these results, we propose new classifications for the Astrophorida using both the classical rank-based nomenclature (i.e., Linnaean classification) and the phylogenetic nomenclature following the PhyloCode, independent of taxonomic rank. A key to the Astrophorida families, sub-families and genera incertae sedis is also included. Incongruences between our molecular tree and the current classification can be explained by the banality of convergent evolution and secondary loss in spicule evolution. These processes have taken place many times, in all the major clades, for megascleres and microscleres. Distribution et taxonomie des Howella (Perciformes, percichthyidae) de l'Atlantique Auteur(s) : Post, A Éditeur(s) : Société Française d'Ichtyologie Résumé : On the basis of geographical distribution and morphological analysis of the Atlantic Howella , two subspecies of H. brodiei have been established, H. brodiei brodiei for the IndoPacific and H. brodiei atlanlica for the tropical and boreal Atlantic. H. sherborni has been recognized as a separate species, probably distributed circumglobally in southern Ocean but presently recorded only from the South Atlantic, the central South Pacific and from off southern and south-eastern Australia respectively. H. b. atlanlica and H. b. brodiei are distinct by having 3 scale rows between the lateral line and the origin of the second dorsal fin, while H. sherborni has 4 scale rows there. H. sherborni is in geographical contact with the two subspecies while H. b. brodiei and H. b. atlantica are geographically isolated from each other. The new subspecies, H. b. atlantica occurs in the North Atlantic and the tropical South Atlantic. Specimens from 75 mm SL and longer, predominantly occur in the boreal areas, while specimens less than that length occur in the tropical areas respectively. A day and night bathymetric distribution and a size-depth stratification have been observed. Argyripnus hulleyi a new species of Sternoptychidae (Stomiiformes) from Reunion Island (Indian Ocean) Auteur(s) : Quero, Jean-claude Spitz, Jerome Vayne, Jean-jacques Éditeur(s) : Société Française d'Ichtyologie Résumé : Following the volcanic eruption of April 2007, nine specimens of Argyripnus (family Sternoptychidae, order Stomiiformes) were among the fish caught at the sea surface at Reunion Island (Indian Ocean). Seven species were described in this genus: A. ephippiatus Gilbert & Cramer, 1897 from Hawaii, A. iridescens McCulloch, 1926 from Australia. A. atlanticus Maul, 1952 from Madeira, A. brocki Struhsaker, 1973 from Hawaii, Argyripnus sp. Yamamoto in Okamura et al., 1982 from Japan, A. electronus Parin, 1992 from the South-east Pacific and A. pharos Harold & Lancaster, 2003 from the Indian Ocean and the central-west Pacific. The Argyripnus from Reunion Island is easily distinguished from the other species by the position of the anus just before the beginning of the anal fin (about half distance between the pelvic base and the beginning of the anal fin in the other species). The new Argyripnus from Reunion Island is described under the name A. hulleyi. Some indications are given on the bathymetric and geographical distributions of all the Argyripnus species. After a brief comparison of the characteristics of the seven species, an identification key is provided. Les sparides des cotes nord-ouest africaines Auteur(s) : Bonnet, Marc Éditeur(s) : ISTPM Résumé : The Thalassa, a ship of the Institute of Fishing, carried out two trawling campaigns off the coasts of Rio de Oro, Mauritania and Senegal. The first one took place in November and December 1962; it extended from Cape Juby to Tamxat (17°20'N). The second, directed more towards the south, reached the Fosse de Cayar Submarine Canyon, near Cape Verde; it occurred in March and April 1968. These operations represent in total 100 trawl passes between latitudes 15° and 28°N and depths of 10 to 800 metres. These two campaigns' overall data are introduced incidentally. The data recorded here are exclusively about the twenty species of sparidae harvested. They concern the geographic and bathymetric distribution, frequency and numbers, size and sex. There emerge certain comments on the animal life, biology and fishing. In some cases, it seemed worthwhile to emphasise the morphological differences that make it possible to distinguish among them species at times very closely related.
Le genre Hymenaster (Astérides) dans l'océan Atlantique Auteur(s) : Sibuet, Myriam Éditeur(s) : Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle Résumé : Several species of the genus Hymenaster (Asteroidea) collected in the abyssal cruises Biaçores, Biogas and Polygas in the North East Atlantic Ocean make possible a synthesis of available data on the species known from the Atlantic Ocean. Two species H. reticulatus and H. tenuispinus are new to Science. A morphological comparative study is carried out for the 17 species reviewed and is presented in the form of a tabular key. The bathymetrical and geographical distributions are included.
