Walter W. S. Cook standing in Nicholls Town, a town in northeastern Andros, Bahamas. Cook was the founding director of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, served as an art professor from 1932 to 1953, and was historian of Medieval Spanish art. He was a companion of William Junior Bryant during Bryant’s trips to Andros and New Providence in 1946. The British Colonial Hotel, now (2013) the British Colonial Hilton Hotel, is located on the site of Fort Nassau which was demolished in 1837. By 1900, Henry Flagler had built the original Colonial Hotel, the only beachfront hotel in Nassau, which was destroyed by fire. A Mediterranean-style replica opened in 1922. The hotel was built adjacent to Nassau Harbor and was the location for two James Bond movies. In this image is a view of the British Colonial Hotel and boats anchored in Nassau Harbor.

Nelson’s Dockyard National Park, a Georgian-era dockyard, is Antigua’s largest national park. During the 18th century, the harbor served as a base for the British Navy but eventually went into disuse. In the 1950s, the Friends of English Harbour began a restoration project of the dockyard and its facilities, transforming the Admiral’s House into a working museum and center for archaeological research. Today, Nelson’s Dockyard is also used as a marina for yachts and ships. This image shows various types of boats docked in the harbor surrounding Nelson's Dockyard with the mountains in the distance.

Résumé : Bay Street parallels the harbor, and is Nassau's "main street." The large building in the background is the Hotel Colonial (British Colonial Hotel). The Florida East Coast Hotel Company, a subsidiary of the FEC Railway Company, built it in 1901. It burned in 1922, and was replaced the following year by the present-day British Colonial Hotel. "Bay Street monopolizes nearly all the business of the city, and is its principal thoroughfare. It skirts the harbor, is shaded by rows of almond trees, stretches east and west ... and is made lively and attractive by trade and travel. ... During all parts of the day, Bay street is thronged with people, almost exclusively colored." - The Isles of Summer, 1880.

In 1967 when Grenada became a British Associated State, it adopted a blue-yellow-green flag with a nutmeg in the center. Many of the Loyalist arrived from the New England area of the United States of America introducing those architectural elements to the island. The Abacos are a group of islands and cays in the Bahamas that form a 120-mile-long chain stretching over 650 square miles. Great Abaco is the second largest island in the Bahamas with one third of the country’s population. Many of smaller islands and cays in the area were settled by British Loyalist after the American Revolutionary War. Marsh Harbour is a town on Great Abaco located closest to Man of War Cay. This image features boats anchored neared a dock, which could either be on Man of War Cay or Marsh Harbor. In the distance, across the bay, is a gazebo. Locations for earthquake recorded in the Lesser Antilles subduction zone are processed separately by regional observatories, NEIC and ISC. There is no earthquake location catalog available compiling all available phase arrival data. We propose a new best complete earthquake catalog by merging all available phase arrival data for better constrains on earthquake locations. ISC provides the phase arrival data of 29243 earthquakes (magnitude range from 1.4 to 6.4) recorded by PRSN (Porto Rico), SRC (British West Indies), and from FUNVISIS (Venezuela). We add phases data from IPGP observatories for 68718 earthquakes from magnitudes 0.1 to 7.5 (OVSG, Guadeloupe, recorded 53226 earthquakes since 1981, and OVSM, Martinique, recorded 29931 earthquakes since 1972). IPGP also provides the accelerometer waveform data of the GIS-RAP network. We achieved automatic picking on the GIS-RAP data using the Component Energy Correlation Method. The CECM provides high precision phase detection, a realistic estimation of picking error and realistic weights that can be used with manual pick weights. The CECM add an average of 3 P-waves and 2 S-waves arrivals to 3846 earthquakes recorded by the GIS-RAP network since 2002. The final catalog contains 84979 earthquakes between 1972 and 2013, 24528 of which we compiled additional data. We achieve earthquake location using NonLinLoc, regional P and S waves data and a set of one dimensional velocity models. We produce improved locations for 22974 earthquakes (better residuals, on equal or larger arrival dataset) and improved duration magnitudes for 6258 earthquakes (using duration data and improved locations). A subset of best constrained 15626 hypocenters (with more than 8 phases and an average RMS of 0.48_0.77s) could be used for structural analysis and earthquake local tomography. Relative locations are to be applied in order to image active faulting. We aim to understand coupling in the seismogenic zone as well as triggering mechanisms of intermediate depth seismicity like fluid migration beneath the volcanic arc.
