Most importantly, the recent development and novel concepts for improving the hydro-stability and separating performance of silica membranes for desalination are critically examined. Research into silica based membranes for desalination has focussed on three primary methods for improving the hydro-stability. These include incorporating carbon templates into the microporous silica both as surfactants and hybrid organic-inorganic structures and incorporation of metal oxide nanoparticles into the silica matrix. The literature examined identified that only metal oxide silica membranes have demonstrated high salt rejections under a variety of feed concentrations, reasonable fluxes and unaltered performance over long-term operation. As this is an embryonic field of research several target areas for researchers were discussed including further improvement of the membrane materials, but also regarding the necessity of integrating waste or solar heat sources into the final process design to ensure cost competitiveness with conventional reverse osmosis processes. © 2012 by the authors. ; 1914-2014, a century of female anthropophagy in brazilian art : relevance and topicality ? At the beginning of the twentieth century, in Brazil, a radical artistic rupture took place, which marked the beginning of a new era. The resulting modernity differed from its European counterpart by the awareness of geographical, cultural and political distances that alienated Brazil from Europe and more specifically from its former colonial owner, Portugal. Brazilian modernity sought to define its identity through important basic elements that constitute the stuff that the New World is made of: cross-breeding, mythology and post-colonialism. The Brazilian avant-garde emerged around 1928 with the publication of The Anthropophagy Manifesto by Oswald de Andrade (1890-1954), who is thus the founder of the Anthropophagy, that we can define as a backward step into a reinvented form of ″Amerindianness″. The ″bad savage″ voices his criticism against impostures of the world. « Anthropophagy art is not a literary revolution, nor is it a social plea, nor a political pamphlet, nor a religious tract. It is all these things at the same time. Its law is simple: everything that is not me is of interest to me. The law of men is the law of Anthropophagy ». It thus prescribes eating up imported models and digesting them through the process of hybridization in the name of Brazilian identity. By displacing Freudian concepts, «Anthropophagy is the permanent transformation of the Taboo (man-eating) into a Totem (Brazilian identity) ». The permeating influences of psychoanalysis and anthropology need to be put in perspective: the displacement of the anthropophagous taboo remains a symbolic act of transgression, a metaphor, but the anthropophagic reference does not concern the pre-Columbian period, because it is updated. We propose to study this phenomenon through four questions: 1°- What are the relations between Anthropophagy, history, esthetics and ideology? 2°- What is the place of women Brazilian artists in the emergence of this movement, taking into account their decisive presence right from the start? 3°- Taking into account the resurgence of Anthropophagy from the second half of the 20th century onwards, what is the place of women artists in this phenomenon? Are they pursuing the same interests as the founders of the movement?4°- Can we deduce that there exists a specifically female genre within the anthropophagic movement of yesterday and of today? If so, what is its relevance? Where does it stand with respect to the contemporary concepts of post-modernity and globalization in the present-day art world? http://www.theses.fr/2014AGUY0766/document | Partager |
What does explain the weakness of a State which has committed more than 20 years to break with the practices of authoritarianism and neo-patrimonialism? Why the promises of a successful democratization, despite the massive support of the actors of the “international society” paradoxically led to the destabilization of the State in the context of recurrent crises? These are the key questions guiding this research, whose ambition is to study the processes by which elites and the Haitian masses appropriate democracy. From this point of view, democratization is analyzed as a political and institutional resource claimed by them as convincing evidence of their adherence to democratic grammar. Therefore, it is scrutinizing the winding roads and chaotic way borrowed by democratization in Haiti, by querying various striking sequences of Haitian political history. Emphasis is placed on the importation of institutional technologies of Western origin, particularly during the period opened in 1994 with the resettlement of Jean-Bertrand Aristide in his duties as president and on the period which starts in 2004 with his forced departure from power. These two historical sequences, underpinned by plans for the reconstruction of the State, are marked by the mobilization of various resources, with a view to laying the foundations for new political and economic governance. They also define a field of conflicting representations, characterized by competition between Western States and the struggle for the distribution of power between the international organizations and local elites issues. The analysis of the process of democratization leads to paradoxical representations: the exacerbation of violence, the updating of authoritarianism, the multiplication of deviant situations arising from the strategies of local actors. The latter are trying to escape from the constraints imposed by external actors involved in order to punish, to arbitrate and to impose decisions on the factions struggling for power. Thus, democratization goes hand in hand with crises of adaptation, contradictory phases of re-composition, hybridization of the imported institutions and, sometimes with circumvention of the standards and procedures. Between internal and external actors are settled and organized interactive dynamics that influence the State of which the final configuration is far short of the objectives set out through the aimed reforms. In order to better highlight the distinguishing features of this State forged in uncertainty and vagueness, the thesis proposes to analyze the dynamics and historicity of Haitian society, privileging, the hypothesis of the reinvention of the State. Paradoxically, the State may be the product of process of violence and the chaotic part that includes the situation in Haiti can conceal the beginning of its construction. http://www.theses.fr/2014AGUY0849/document | Partager |
Exploration of CP12 conformational changes and of quaternary structural properties using electrospray ionization traveling wave ion mobility mass spectrometry. Auteur(s) : Kaaki, Wassim Woudstra, Mireille Gontero, Brigitte Halgand, Frédéric Auteurs secondaires : Institut de recherche, santé, environnement et travail [Rennes] (Irset) ; Université d'Angers (UA) - Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) - Université de Rennes 1 (UR1) - École des Hautes Études en Santé Publique [EHESP] (EHESP) - Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM) - Structure Fédérative de Recherche en Biologie et Santé de Rennes ( Biosit : Biologie - Santé - Innovation Technologique ) Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Wiley Résumé : International audience CP12 is a small chloroplast protein involved in the Benson-Calvin cycle. Since it was demonstrated that the CP12 protein shared different conformational properties between reduced and oxidized states we took advantage of the segregational properties of the Traveling Wave Ion Mobility (TWIM) guide to study subtle conformational changes related to redox changes. Electrospray ionization mass (ESI-MS) spectra of the CP12 protein were recorded in the positive ion mode using an ESI source fitted on a quadrupole time-of-flight (QToF) hybrid mass spectrometer equipped with a TWIM cell (Synapt HDMS G1, Waters Corp., Manchester) under non-denaturing conditions. Non-covalent experiments were performed using the same instrument without the use of the TWIM device. Whatever the CP12 form studied, our results showed that CP12 protein was represented by two conformers in equilibrium that displayed very slight differences. These observations led us to propose that CP12 protein structure is rather undergoing transient subtle structural changes than having two different conformational populations in solution. In addition, using non-denaturing experiments, NAD and CP12 stoichiometry were determined with respect to the GAPDH tetramer and the redox state of CP12. In this study we showed that the use of the segregational property of the ion mobility (TWIM, Synapt G1 HDMS, Waters, Manchester, UK) allowed differentiation of subtle conformational changes between redox states of the CP12 protein. Standard non-denaturing experiments revealed different binding stoichiometry according to the redox state of the CP12 protein. This thesis deals with the study of evolution equations and differential equations with piecewise constant argument. Studies of such equations were motivated by the fact that they represent a hybrid of discrete and continuous dynamical systems and combine the properties of both differential and differential-difference equations. We study the existence of almost automorphic solutions and S asymptotically omega periodic solution of evolution equations and differential equations with piecewise constant argument. The study of almost automorphic and S asymptotically omega periodic functions is motivated by the fact that these functions generalize the concept of periodic functions. Therefore, we obtain results about existence and unicity of almost automorphic and S asymptotic omega periodic solution of evolution equations. We will study this problem considering evolution equations who belong to a class of differential equation with piecewise constant argument. http://www.theses.fr/2013AGUY0599/document | Partager |
Par la suite ce pool aurait été diversifié via des croisements intercy We studied polyploidisation phenomena in the yam Dioscorea alata that includes three cytotypes -diploid (2n=40), triploid (2n=60) and tetraploid (2n=80) -in order to optimise polyploid hybrid production strategies. In this complex polyploid, the increase in ploidy is correlated with an increase in vigour and higher and more stable yields. We first showed the autotetraploidy of tetraploid varieties using three different approaches: heredity analyses of microsatellite markers, the observation of double reduction phenomena, and the study of meiosis of pollen mother cells. We then determined the mechanisms most likely to be at the origin of natural polyploids through the study of the transmission of parental heterozygoty using microsatellites and the study of incompatibilities at the endosperm level at the time of different intracytotypic and intercytotypic crosses using flow cytometry. The results obtained reveal that the polyploids of D. alata probably appeared through the formation of non-reduced gametes of diploid clones. The triploid pool would then have been constituted and diversified through the female pathway as a result of the non-viability of intercytotypic crosses and the sterility of female and male triploids. The tetraploid pool would have appeared as a result of the union of two non-reduced gametes of diploid clones (bilateral sexual polyploidisation). This pool would then have diversified through intercytotypic crosses with the formation of 2n gamètes through both the female and the male pathway, as well as by intracytotypic crosses within the 4X pool. http://www.theses.fr/2012AGUY0519/document | Partager |
