Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSDCenters for Disease Control and Prevention Résumé : International audience To determine when risk for Buruli ulcer is highest, we examined seasonal patterns in a highly disease-endemic area of Cameroon during 2002-2012. Cases peaked in March, suggesting that risk is highest during the high rainy season. During and after this season, populations should increase protective behaviors, and case detection efforts should be intensified. ISSN: 1080-6040
Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSDCenters for Disease Control and Prevention Résumé : International audience To assess the prevalence of malaria among illegal gold miners in the ă French Guiana rainforest, we screened 205 miners during May-June 2014. ă Malaria prevalence was 48.3%; 48.5% of cases were asymptomatic. ă Patients reported self-medication with artemisinin-based combination ă therapy. Risk for emergence and spread of artemisinin resistance among ă gold miners in the rainforest is high. ISSN: 1080-6040
Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSDCenters for Disease Control and Prevention Résumé : International audience We report 20 cases of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis managed in France. Treatment was individualized and included bedaquiline and linezolid for most patients and surgery in 8 patients. At last follow-up (22 months), 19 patients had achieved conversion from positive to negative on culture testing. These promising results of comprehensive management obtained in a small series deserve confirmation. ISSN: 1080-6040

Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSDCenters for Disease Control and Prevention Résumé : International audience From 1998 through 2006, 44 cases of severe primary toxoplasmosis were observed in French Guiana in immunocompetent adults. Toxoplasma gondii isolates exhibited an atypical multilocus genotype. Severe disease in humans may result from poor host adaptation to neotropical zoonotic strains of T. gondii circulating in a forest-based cycle. ISSN: 1080-6040
Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSDCenters for Disease Control and Prevention Résumé : Dengue-malaria co-infection reports are scarce. Of 1,723 consecutive febrile patients in Cayenne Hospital, 238 had dengue (174 early dengue fever cases) and 393 had malaria (371 acute malaria); 17 had both. Diagnosis of 1 of these 2 infections should not rule out testing for the other infection. ISSN: 1080-6040
