The Central Highway was commissioned by President Machado and presented and approved by the Cuban Congress in 1925. Construction began in 1927 The price of the construction was $75,870,000, or more than $107,000 per mile. (705.6 miles) The highway almost runs the entire length of the island from Pinar del Rio, all the way to Santiago de Cuba. It cover a distance of just over 700 miles.

This Victorian style mansion was built in 1881 by the Honorable David Gideon, a former Custos of Portland and member of the Legislative Council of Jamaica. This mansion, now a hotel, is constructed with a red brick exterior and features ornate cast iron balconies. Thompson Brothers (Wines and Spirits) Limited was a subsidiary of Burns House. In 1836, a Royal Charter established The Colonial Bank in the Caribbean. Robert Fulton (1765-1815) was an American inventor credited with adapting the steam engine for commercial use in boats. He worked with Robert Livingston to provide steamboat service along the Hudson River. In 1909, Steamboat Robert Fulton, pictured, went into service for the Hudson River Day Line and made its final voyage on September 13, 1948. In 1959, the steamboat was brought to land at Snake Cay, Abaco, Bahamas where it later housed the offices and apartments for Owens-Illinois Incorporated, a lumber company. In this image, automobiles are parked next to the offices of Owens-Illinois Incorporated. Men are gathered near the end of the steamboat. Slide labeled Pay Day Owens Illinois Co. People standing at the window of a retail store. This building’s walls feature 1960s inspired contemporary art paintings of flowers, text, and a stylized bird. Art paintings on the building’s walls include the following statements “I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet” and “Sock It to Me.” According to the Barbados Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office (CAIPO), "I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet" was registered in Barbados on November 25, 1968. "I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet" was a boutique store in London during the 1960s, which sold secondhand uniforms and military memorabilia. This image also features the store’s memorable sign which was inspired by the famous 1914 military recruitment poster designed by Alfred Leete. The sign and poster features Lord Horatio Herbert Kitchener, then Secretary of State for War, pointing at the viewer with the words “Your Country Needs You.” However, this store's sign also features the Union Jack flag behind Lord Kitchener’s image. According CAIPO, The Bornn Bay Rum Co. was registered in Barbados on September 3, 1940. It was a subsidiary of the Bornn Distilling Co. of New York. Bay rum is a type of aftershave lotion made from bay leaves. Automobiles passes a Texaco sign along the street. Slide labeled Barbados Bldg. in Psychedelic Colors.

This monument to Christopher Columbus stands before the front entrance to the Government House in Nassau, New Providence Island, Bahamas. The Government House, an example of Caribbean Georgian architecture features a four columned portico. In 1492, Columbus became the first European to visit the Bahamas when he landed on San Salvador. The statue, built in London, was imported by Sir James Carmichael Smyth in 1830. The current Government House, with its four columned porticos, was completed by 1806. It is the home of the governor-general, the queen’s representative in The Bahamas. Sections of the building were renovated after the hurricane of 1929. The Duke of Windsor was assigned Governor of the Bahamas in 1940 and lived in the house during that time.

The photograph shows two ocean liners docked in Bridgetown Port. Passengers can be seen on the one of the ship's decks looking over the side to see people and automobiles on the street. The M.S. Renaissance was built in 1966. Until 1977, she operated primarily on the Marseille-Haifa route under Compagnie Navigation de Paquet (Croiseres Paquet), Marseille, France. The cruise liner had many subsequent owners throughout her history, until her disposal in 2010. Slide labeled Barb 5.
