Analyse des résultats d'une ferme d'élevage de crevettes sur 20 années : SODACAL 1984-2004. "Elasticité" de la capacité de production d'un écosystème bassin crevetticole

Résumé : SODACAL prawn farm which was set up as a pilot farm for the development of a prawn industry in New Caledonia, saw its production exponentially rise from 1984 to 1992 (to 400 t/year, then experienced a sharp drop in 1993 (250 t/year) which carried on until 1997, and finally rose back to a stabilizing level around 400 t/year until 1999. The study analyses the difficulties observed before and during the drop of production. Among them, mortality outbreaks, other biological perturbations (benthic mat clearing and crab and fish mortality) and focus on the noxious state of the bottom (reduced and smelling sulfide hydrogen). It particularly shows that Syndrome 93 outbreaks could be observed on this farm from 1990. The analysis highlights the particular climatic conditions in New Caledonia from 1990 to 1995 (drought) and their potential impact on the production. The development of this very particular process of physical and topographic differential evolution of the pond bottom under wind action (accumulation and digging) and its consequences on pond preparation is explained. This work takes a close look at the grow-out management : age and quality of post larvae, pond stocking with pre-grown animals, feed characteristics and management, water exchange management and pumping capacity, strategy on density and size of harvested animals. The results have been assessed using a distinctive tool, the "survival differential", allowing inter-pond comparisons within a site, inter-farms comparisons over pluri-annual periods of time. >From the commented farm results over a 20 year period, we could distinguish the principal factors responsible for the drop of grow-out capacity of some ponds. La ferme de SODACAL, conçue à l'origine comme une ferme de démonstration pour le développement d'une filière d'aquaculture exportatrice de crevettes en Nouvelle-Calédonie a connu une phase de croissance exponentielle de sa production de 1984 à 1992 (jusqu'à 400 t/an), puis une chute brutale en 1993 (250 t/an) qui s'est prolongée jusqu'en 1997 et enfin une reprise à partir de 1998 pour arriver à une stabilisation autour de 420 t/an depuis 1999. L'étude inventorie les dysfonctionnements observés avant et pendant la crise de production. Parmi ceux-ci sont évoqués les épisodes de mortalité de crevettes, d'autres désordres biologiques (décollements de tapis benthique et « hécatombes » de crabes et de poissons), l'état délétère des fonds (sédiments réduits et odeur d'hydrogène sulfuré). Elle permet notamment de montrer que des épisodes de mortalité typiques du Syndrome 93 pouvaient être observés sur cette ferme dès 1990. L'étude met en évidence les conditions climatiques remarquables qui ont sévi en Nouvelle-Calédonie de 1990 à 1995 (sécheresse) et leur impact probable sur les élevages. La genèse du phénomène très particulier d'évolution physique et topographique des fonds des bassins par l'effet du vent (accumulation et creusement) et des conséquences sur la préparation des bassins est explicitée. Ce travail aborde la gestion zootechnique : l'âge et la « qualité » des post larves, la pratique des ensemencements à partir d'animaux pré grossis, la gestion de l'alimentation et la nature de la provende, le contrôle du renouvellement d'eau et la capacité de pompage, le choix des densités et du calibre des animaux récoltés. Les résultats ont pu être évalués à travers un outil original «le différentiel de survie », permettant des comparaisons inter-bassins au sein du site, inter-fermes à des périodes pluri annuelles distinctes. A partir des résultats commentés de la ferme obtenus sur 20 années, on a pu distinguer les principaux facteurs qui ont provoqué cette chute d'aptitude culturale de certains bassins. Un schéma conceptuel des différents paramètres ayant conduit à la baisse des survies, un scénario épidémiologique ainsi qu'un tableau synoptique de la chronologie des évènements et de leur relative sévérité sont esquissés. Le rapport ébauche l'hypothèse d'un cumul de causes favorables qui ont permis le retour à des résultats zootechniques satisfaisants : une réhabilitation physique et biochimique des fonds de bassins, une zootechnie modifiée et standardisée, une capacité de pompage adéquate et une climatologie de nouveau favorable. Cette étude de cas permet ainsi d'illustrer les notions d « élasticité » de l'aptitude culturale et de durabilité de la crevetticulture en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Le but de cette enquête historique sur 20 ans est l'acquisition d'informations pertinentes permettant d'améliorer la compréhension du « Syndrome d'été » qui affecte actuellement deux fermes de production et ainsi aider à compléter le scénario hypothétique avancé par le Dac (2005). Enfin, au travers de cet historique, on a cherché également à sensibiliser les nouveaux opérateurs de la filière sur la fragilité de l'écosystème-bassin et présenter quelques conseils de bon sens pour éviter que de tels phénomènes ne se reproduisent ailleurs.

Le nègre marron est aujourd’hui une figure incontournable du passé antillais, retracée à la fois par des écrits, scientifiques ou non, des productions artistiques et mémorielles. L’analyse des commémorations de l’abolition de l’esclavage ou des manifestations s’yrapportant depuis 1998, est réalisée notamment à travers la presse et les oeuvres monumentales. Construite sous forme d’inventaire elle permet de mieux mesurer la place et l’importance croissante de l’évocation du marronnage et de son emblème le nègre marron dans les manifestations depuis 1998. Le travail à partir des archives du Centenaire en 1948, souligne a contrario une présence très restreinte, qu’il faut mettre en rapport avec une autre quasi-absence, celle de l’esclave. En effet les cérémonies du Centenaire, qui se conjuguent avec les débuts de la mise en place de la départementalisation aux Antilles, mettent l’accent beaucoup plus sur la Libération, sur la fin d’une ignominie, que sur les conditions de vie et de fuite des habitations. Cette communication propose donc de suivre l’itinéraire du Nègre marron, sa transformation progressivement en héraut d’une résistance, débordant aujourd’hui largement la configuration du milieu esclavagiste. Il compose selon Glissant en 1981, « le seul vrai héros populaire des Antilles ». La communication souhaite mettre en perspective cette figure du héros, ses rythmes et ses connexions, sa patrimonialisation, mais aussi interroger l’extension du recours au terme de marronnage, en apparence hors de ses cadres initiaux. Centrée sur les Antilles françaises, cette communication espère poser les bases d’une comparaison avec d’autres pays de la grande Caraïbe.

L’exploitation du Raphia dans la forêt marécageuse Hlanzoun : entre contribution au développement socio-économique et dégradation des ressources naturelles

Résumé : L’exploitation commerciale des produits forestiers non ligneux a animé et anime encore au plan international les débats sur la gestion durable des forêts, notamment par son apport en matière de conservation, d’amélioration des conditions d’existence des populations locales et de gestion participative. Cependant, l’exploitation commerciale des PFNL soulève la problématique de la durabilité tant au plan écologique, économique que sociopolitique. La présente recherche traite de cette problématique en prenant comme PFNL d’illustration le raphia dans la forêt marécageuse Hlanzoun. Elle vise à analyser la durabilité socio-économique et environnementale de l’exploitation du raphia dans la forêt marécageuse « Hlanzoun ». La méthodologie utilisée est une combinaison d’approches quantitatives et qualitatives. Les outils d’analyse de données utilisés sont entre autre, la statistique descriptive, l’analyse filière des revenus d’exploitation et des valeurs ajoutées et l’analyse du système socio-écologique. Nos résultats montrent que le raphia est une plante à usages multiples. Que ce soit les feuilles, les fibres, la sève ou le tronc, tout ou presque peut être valorisé sur le raphia. Au niveau des villages riverains du Hlanzoun l’exploitation de la sève du raphia et sa transformation en alcool alimentaire est de loin le type d’usage qui procure le plus de revenu malgré le fait que les autres types d’usages mobilisent un nombre plus important d’acteurs. L’exploitation commerciale de ce PFNL se déploie suivant une organisation relativement simple et avec des caractéristiques propres à la plupart des activités de la petite production marchande des économies sous-développées en crise. Cette exploitation est essentiellement articulée autour des coupeurs/collecteurs, des intermédiaires commerciaux, des agents de transformation/conditionnement et des consommateurs des produits finis. La contribution annuelle totale de la filière raphia au développement a été estimée à 192 429 633 Fr. CFA (environ 385 000 dollar) et les revenus d’exploitation de tous les acteurs ont un signe positif malgré le faible niveau de technologie et de formation. Le raphia apporte donc des revenus relativement importants aux divers acteurs en dépit des handicaps de la filière et du déficit d’équité dans la répartition des richesses produites. Au plan de la gouvernance, on note un déficit d’instances, de règles et de procédures, dont l’effectivité et la légitimité sont clairement établies. Cet état de chose laisse le parc à raphia dans un régime d’accès « libre » mais seulement pour les riverains ; nous nous retrouvons donc en présence d’un système de cueillette, caractérisé par l’exploitation de plants immatures et la surexploitation, mettant en péril la capacité de renouvellement de la ressource et même l’avenir de la filière. On note cependant un effort de contrôle de l’accès des non riverains et des tentatives d’adaptation des riverains. En effet, le nombre d’exploitants est passé de 148 à 92 entre 2008 et 2010 et le nombre de pieds de raphia saignés est passé de 15 452 à 8 832 durant la même période. Au total, l’exploitation du raphia dans le Hlanzoun s’inscrit dans un environnement défavorable par rapport aux exigences de développement durable d’une filière de PFNL. Mais les divers acteurs sont à présent conscients de la nécessité d’agir pour une meilleure réglementation de l’accès et de l’exploitation.
The commercial use of non woody forest products is a crucial issue in the international debate on the sustainable management of forests. These products are supposed to contribute to conservation by improving local populations’ livelihood and their involvement in forest management. This study lies within the scope of two South-South Cooperation projects (PSC 22P07 and PSC 03T08) implemented by the CEBEDES NGO with the financial support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It aims at analyzing the socioeconomic and environmental sustainability of the raffia stands management in the swamp forest "Hlanzoun ". This small forest is located in one of Benin southern Wetlands in the municipality of Zogbodomey.The methodology to assess raffia socioeconomic performances relies on the estimation of the values added within the raffia value chains. Stakeholders at every segment of the value chains have been surveyed on the incomes obtained out of raffia. The methodology to assess the sustainability of the management relies on a simple indicator measuring the ratio of younger to elder palms. Palms in stands have been counted according to their age group. The survey confirms that raffia is a multi-purpose plant used for its leaves, fibers, sap and trunk. In villages at the borders of the Hlanzoun forest, harvesting the raffia sap on standing palms and processing it into alcohol are a major income generating activity. Alcohol is then marketed through a network of collectors, wholesalers and petty traders up to the consumers. The contribution of raffia to local and regional development was estimated by the total incomes generated at 192.429.633 F CFA. All stakeholders earn positive and significant incomes in spite of the low level of technology and skills, but traders receive a large share of the wealth produced. As regard to governance, "free" access only concerns residents and efforts are made to control the access of non-residents. One notes a deficit of legitimated authorities, rules and procedures for a sustainable use: Restrictions on the harvest of immature palms are not anymore enforced and it endangers the renewal capacity of the resource. But at the same time, the number of operators seems to be decreasing (from 148 to 92 between 2008 and 2010, whereas the number of harvested raffia palms decreased from 15,452 to 8,832 during the same period). A self-regulation might occur, due to the fact that a livelihood of local people relies on a diversity of income generating activities. In total, the operation of Raffia in Hlazoun is in an unfavorable environment with the requirements of sustainable development in a sector of NTFF. But the various actors are now aware of the need for action to better regulate access and operation.

Résumé : At present, the forecasting of littoral evolution presents a considerable social stake. Many studies have been achieved to better understand coastal dynamics. Such dynamics are controlled by morphology, sediment supply, hydrodynamics, eustacy... at different time scales. At geological time scale, deposits geometry, controlled by eustacy and subsidence, is succesfully analysed where sediment supply is high. But the littoral zones present important sediment supply variability. In low sediment supply areas, the record of coastal tracts is smaller and harder to interprete. Analyses of about 250 kilometres of new VHR seismic profiles acquired along the languedocian coast (Northern Gulf of Lion, France), tens of short cores and outcrops data allowed us to determine the three-dimensional high-resolution geometry of the coastal tracts from Quaternary to present-day. This highlighted the role of alongshore dynamics in coast where direct sediment supply is low. The concepts of protected lagoon and isolated lagoon were broughted to the fore and the effect of inherited incised valley morphology was discussed. Last, a complementary study by analogue modeling of the channel incision processes controled by eustatic and climatic changes allowed to discuss the role of incised valleys in coastal areas.
Actuellement, la prévision de l'évolution d'un système littoral représente un enjeu social important. De nombreuses études sont réalisées afin de mieux connaitre la dynamique côtière et donc de comprendre les facteurs qui influencent son évolution. Cette dynamique est contrôlée par la morphologie, les apports sédimentaires, l'hydrodynamique, l'eustatisme... qui agissent à des échelles de temps différentes et avec de fortes interactions. A l'échelle géologique, l'architecture des dépôts, contrôlée par l'eustatisme et la subsidence, est parfaitement décrite dans les zones à forts apports sédimentaires. Par contre, dans les zones à faibles apports sédimentaires, l'enregistrement des cortèges côtiers est réduit et est difficile à interpréter. L'analyse de 250 kilomètres de profils sismiques THR sur le littoral languedocien (Nord du Golfe du Lion, France), de carottages et de données de terrain a permis de déterminer la géométrie en trois dimensions des cortèges sédimentaires côtiers depuis le Quaternaire jusqu'à l'actuel. Ces observations montrent l'importance de la dynamique longshore sur les littoraux pauvres en apports sédimentaires directs. De plus, l'étude d'un système lagunaire sur ce littoral met en évidence les concepts de lagunes protégées et lagunes isolées ainsi que l'importance des vallées incisées dans la génèse de ces environnements. Enfin, la modélisation en laboratoire des processus d'incision de chenaux sous contrôle eustatique et climatique permet de discuter le rôle des vallées incisées en milieu côtier.

The Souttoufide belt is situated between the High-Atlas in the north, the Mauritanides in the south and the West African Craton as well as the Tindouf basin in the east. Thus, this belt is a part of the West African fold belt system which surrounds the West African Craton. Outcrops occur only in three areas, while the rest of the Souttoufide belt is covered by Meso- to Cenozoic sediments. These areas are, from the south to the north, the Adrar Souttouf Massif, the Smara Zemmour area, and the western part of the Anti-Atlas. Because of the continuing processing and numerous publications, the Anti-Atlas cannot be dealt with in detail. Fundamental geological work in both of the other areas was mainly done during the second third of the 20th century, followed by several decades of inactivity. Numerous studies were done in the Adrar Souttouf massif during the last decade, while the Smara-Zemmour area still remains poorly investigated. Most of them were focused on geochronological analyses and geochemistry. Accordingly, the obtained data led to a new interpretation. The Adrar Souttouf is interpreted as a Pan-African belt exhibiting a Neoproterozoic island arc reworked by the Variscan collision between the North American Craton (NAC) and the West African Craton (WAC). The Smara-Zemmour area is considered as the external part of this Variscan belt thrusted onto the Palaeozoic Tindouf basin. The western Anti-Atlas as considered as a Pan-African active margin reworked during the Variscan orogen. Together, these three areas, lead to the hypothesis of a Late Pan-African belt capped by the Early and Middle Palaeozoic covers and then affected by the Middle Carboniferous tectonic event (330 Ma) related to the Pangaean assembly. Correlations with adjacent belts (Mauritanides and Anti-Atlas) are considered.

Résumé : Dans le cadre de la promotion de systèmes de culture alternatifs à moindres intrants chimiques, des études sur l'introduction de plantes de service ayant vocation à réduire l'usage des pesticides et engrais azotés mobilisent un effort de recherche considérable. Dans le cadre de la production bananière pour laquelle la nuisibilité causée par les nématodes phytoparasites constitue l'une des principales contraintes, une des principales alternatives à l'utilisation de nématicides chimiques repose sur l'usage raisonné en rotation ou en association culturale de plantes de service à propriétés nématorégulatrices. Parmi les espèces candidates, celles du genre Crota/aria spp. ont largement été étudiées en raison de leur aptitude à contrôler les nématodes phytoparasites. Une méta-analyse révèle cependant que même si de nombreux auteurs s'accordent à reconnaître les propriétés allélopathiques des plantes de cette espèce, ils sont également enclins à reconnaître la forte variabilité d'expression de ces propriétés vis-à-vis du contrôle des nématodes selon les situations expérimentées. L'objectif de ce travail repose sur la compréhension du déterminisme biochimique des exsudats. La stratégie expérimentale mise en oeuvre a consisté à tester en conditions contrôlées le comportement biochimique des exsudats racinaires de deux espèces de crotalaires (C retusa, C spectabilis) et d'une espèce sensible, le bananier dessert (Musa spp.) en fonction i) de conditions biotiques variées -i.e. présence ou non de nématodes (Radopholus similis et Meloidogyne arenariaï, et présence ou non de mycorhizes-, ii) de conditions abiotiques contrastées -i.e. utilisation d'un sol naturel vs. substrat neutre, ajout ou non d'engrais chimique. La méthodologie innovante des «plantes à traire » (Brevet INRA) a été requise pour pouvoir travailler sur les exsudats racinaires des plantes conditionnées plutôt que sur des Iixiviats, comme réalisé dans des expérimentations antérieures.Les résultats obtenus en spectrophométrie visible montrent que la modification des conditions abiotiques affecte de manière importante les profils biochimiques des plantes étudiées. En présence du nématode 1..·1. arenaria les profils biochimiques des deux crotalaires sont également modifiés. Des biotests réalisés à l'aide des exsudats racinaires conditionnés au préalable par les modifications biotiques ont permis de démontrer l'effet nématostatique des crotalaires. Des analyses biochimiques en Ge-MS mettent en évidence de manière plus précise des molécules actives mises en jeu sous différentes modalités biotiques et abiotiques. Ces recherches, de portée générique, permettront de mieux comprendre les conditions de l'environnement qui régulent les profils biochimiques des exsudats racinaires des crotalaires et par extension, seront applicables aux recherches menées sur d'autres plantes de service candidates. Ceci aidera, à terme, à définir les conditions environnementales à réunir, pour orienter de manière optimale les effets allélopathiques dans une perspective de nématorégulation naturelle
As part of the promotion of alternative cropping systems at lower chemical inputs, studies on the introduction of cover crops designed to reduce the use of pesticides and nitrogen fertilizers mobilize a considerable research effort. Under banana production for which the hannfu1ness caused by plant-parasitic-nematodes is one ofthe main constraints, one of the main alternatives to the use ofchemical nematicides is based on the rational use in rotation or intercropping of cover rI crops to proteet crops from plant-parasitic-nematodes, Among the candidate species, the species from the genus of Crota/aria spp. have been widely studied because of their ability to control plant parasitic-nematodes. A meta-analysis reveals that although many authors agree allelopathic properties of these species, they are also likely to recognize the high variability of expression of these properties vis-àvis the control of nematodes according to the situations experieaced.. The objective of this woIk is focnsed on the onderstanding of the biochemical determinism of mot exudates onder environment biotic and abiotic variations. The experimental strategy was 10 test onder controlled conditions the biochemical behavior of mot exudates of two species of crotalarias (C retusa, C. spectabilis) and a susceptible species, the dessert banana crop (Musa spp.) with i) modification ofbiotic conditions -ie presence or absence of nematodes iMeloidogyne arenaria and Radopho/us similis), and presence or absence of mycorrhiza-ii) contrasting abiotic conditions -ie using a natural soil vs. neutral substrate, whether to add fertilizer. The innovative methodology of "milking plants" (patent INRA) was required in order to work on the root exudates of plants packed rather thanleachate, as done in previous experiments. The results obtained show that 'visible spectrophotometry changing abiotic conditions affect significantly the biochemical profiles of the studied plants. In the presence of nematode M. arenaria biochemical profiles of both crotalarias are also changed. Bioassays conducted using mot exudates conditioned in advance by biotic changes have demonstrated the effect of nématostatique crotalarias. Biochemical Ge-MS demonstrate more clearly active molecules that are involved in varions biotic and abiotic conditions. This research, generic scope, to better understand the environmental conditions that regulate biochemical profiles of mot exudates crotalarias and by extension, will apply to research on other plants service candidates. This will ultimately define the environmental conditions to meet, to guide optimal allelopathic effects from the perspective ofnatural nématorégulation

This article studies the associative movement of people with a motor disability in Guadeloupe (FWI), which has contributed to the development of the care activities on the island. The first self-regulated associations, initiated at the beginning of the 1980s, were to influence the structuration of the new social and medico-social sector. From the analysis of the main actors’ interviews and archival materials, we can notice a double identity claim: a disabled people identity and a Guadelupian identity. This double identity claim will influence the care activities. While at first, the adjustment with the mainland France is looked for, the actors also provide an anti-authority speech, which puts forward Guadelupian specificities about the care activities.
Cet article étudie le mouvement associatif de personnes présentant une déficience motrice en Guadeloupe, département français d’outre-mer (DOM), qui a contribué au développement de la prise en charge du handicap sur l’île. Les premières associations autogérées, émergeantes au début des années 1980 vont influencer la structuration du jeune secteur social et médico-social. Sur la base d’une analyse des témoignages des acteurs de ce mouvement et d’archives associatives, nous avons pu relever que l’identité mobilisatrice est double : celle de personne ayant des incapacités et celle de Guadeloupéen. Cette double identité aura pour conséquence de donner une coloration particulière aux activités du care. Alors que dans un premier temps, le « rattrapage » avec la métropole est souhaité, les acteurs mobilisent également un discours contestataire en mettant en avant les spécificités guadeloupéennes dans la prise en charge des personnes handicapées.

Geochronological studies of samples from continuous crustal sections of fossil intra-oceanic arcs are paramount for determining the precise timing of major processes that took place during the building of an oceanic island-arc crust. In this study, laser ablation ICP-MS U-Pb zircon (and conventional Rb-Sr) analyses pinpoint the timing of major events responsible for crustal growth of the Kohistan paleo-island arc (Northern Pakistan). Inheritance in magmatic rocks is evidence for recycling of intra-arc material and indicates that the Kohistan arc may have formed as early as 135 +/- 4 Ma. One older inherited grain indicates that the arc developed on a young oceanic lithosphere whose remnants include a c. 175 Ma old component. An interesting consequence is that intra-oceanic arc magmas can yield inherited zircons, which can be much older than the arc system itself without requiring recycling back into the mantle by subduction processes. In the case of the Kohistan arc, ante-arc Neotethys oceanic lithosphere was tapped by arc magmas during their way upward into the arc crust. The oldest magmatic ages measured in this study fall in the range 101-102 Ma (100.9 +/- 0.6 and 102.1 +/- 0.4 Ma). This period corresponds to arc build-up and thickening of the arc crust. Leucogranitic melts dated at 89.9 +/- 0.4 Ma and 90.9 +/- 1.0 Ma are considered as produced by dehydration/melting reaction accompanying granulitisation of the thickened lower arc crust. A maximum age for this event is 97.7 +/- 0.7 Ma, the age of emplacement of a garnet meta-tonalite affected by granulite facies metamorphism. Magmatic activity was still ongoing during and after the granulitisation as testified by emplacement of a diorite and a gabbro dated at 89.1 +/- 0.6 and 88.2 +/- 0.9 Ma respectively. The upper part of the metaplutonic sequence contains diorite samples dated at 84.6 +/- 0.5 Ma and 84.3 +/- 0.5 Ma and as young as 81.1 +/- 0.7 Ma. During this period, and based on the present day outcropping sequences, the mean crustal growth rate varied from 32 to 65 km(3)/km/Ma (volume per unit width along the strike of the arc) which is comparable to the range for present day arcs of the Western Pacific region. The correspondence of crustal growth rates observed for present-day island arcs and the good preservation of the crustal section in the Kohistan arc, make this area an exceptional natural laboratory to study arc related processes and to check models of continental crust formation by arc accretion.

The generation of handwriting is a complex neuromotor skill requiring the interaction of many cognitive processes. It aims at producing a message to be imprinted as an ink trace left on a writing medium. The generated trajectory of the pen tip is made up of strokes superimposed over time. The Kinematic Theory of rapid human movements and its family of lognormal models provide analytical representations of these strokes, often considered as the basic unit of handwriting. This paradigm has not only been experimentally confirmed in numerous predictive and physiologically significant tests but it has also been shown to be the ideal mathematical description for the impulse response of a neuromuscular system. This latter demonstration suggests that the lognormality of the velocity patterns can be interpreted as reflecting the behavior of subjects who are in perfect control of their movements. To illustrate this interpretation, we present a short overview of the main concepts behind the Kinematic Theory and briefly describe how its models can be exploited, using various software tools, to investigate these ideal lognormal behaviors. We emphasize that the parameters extracted during various tasks can be used to analyze some underlying processes associated with their realization. To investigate the operational convergence hypothesis, we report on two original studies. First, we focus on the early steps of the motor learning process as seen as a converging behavior toward the production of more precise lognormal patterns as young children practicing handwriting start to become more fluent writers. Second, we illustrate how aging affects handwriting by pointing out the increasing departure from the ideal lognormal behavior as the control of the fine motricity begins to decline. Overall, the paper highlights this developmental process of merging toward a lognormal behavior with learning, mastering this behavior to succeed in performing a given task, and then gradually deviating from it with aging.

Background. Adverse psychosocial working environments characterized by job strain (the combination of high demands and low control at work) are associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms among employees, but evidence on clinically diagnosed depression is scarce. We examined job strain as a risk factor for clinical depression. Method. We identified published cohort studies from a systematic literature search in PubMed and PsycNET and obtained 14 cohort studies with unpublished individual-level data from the Individual-Participant-Data Meta-analysis in Working Populations (IPD-Work) Consortium. Summary estimates of the association were obtained using random-effects models. Individual-level data analyses were based on a pre-published study protocol. Results. We included six published studies with a total of 27 461 individuals and 914 incident cases of clinical depression. From unpublished datasets we included 120 221 individuals and 982 first episodes of hospital-treated clinical depression. Job strain was associated with an increased risk of clinical depression in both published [relative risk (RR) = 1.77, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.47-2.13] and unpublished datasets (RR = 1.27, 95% CI 1.04-1.55). Further individual participant analyses showed a similar association across sociodemographic subgroups and after excluding individuals with baseline somatic disease. The association was unchanged when excluding individuals with baseline depressive symptoms (RR = 1.25, 95% CI 0.94-1.65), but attenuated on adjustment for a continuous depressive symptoms score (RR = 1.03, 95% CI 0.81-1.32). Conclusions. Job strain may precipitate clinical depression among employees. Future intervention studies should test whether job strain is a modifiable risk factor for depression.

Résumé : The presence of obstacles met in natural environment by the flow, influences the dispersion of air pollutants which it carries. This thesis, based on spatiotemporal micro-meteorological measurements in tropical region, aims at studying the dispersion of compounds emitted by the ecosystem mangrove according to the weather conditions. At a daily scale, the meteorological analysis reveals, besides the presence of Trade Winds, the existence of thermal flows of which nocturnal thermodynamic parameters have been defined. The field observation has shown that the weak intensity of the wind disadvantages the dispersion of compounds emitted during the night. At a finer scale, the existence of a spectral gap separating large scale phenomena of those related to turbulence has been demonstrated. These last ones were treated by spectral and statistical approaches to quantify the turbulent fluxes of momentum and sensible heat during the night, for an averaged duration of 13 minutes. The stratification of the surface layer has been considered and determined by Monin-Obukhov similarity theory. The measurements acquired at night and the application of Kolmogorov theory allowed us to deduct the dissipation rate of energy and the size of the vortices at 5.5 meters in height. This work has also led us, by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, to identify, in mangrove, sulphurated volatil organic compounds, organohalogen, BTEX, ... All these results will later serve to feed dispersion models related to the studied ecosystem.
La présence d'obstacles rencontrés en milieu naturel par l'écoulement, influence la dispersion des polluants qu'il transporte. Cette thèse, fondée sur des mesures micro-météorologiques spatio-temporelles en région tropicale, vise à étudier la dispersion de composés émis par l'écosystème mangrove en fonction des conditions météorologiques. A l'échelle journalière, l'analyse météorologique révèle, outre la présence des Alizés, l'existence d'écoulements thermiques dont des paramètres thermodynamiques nocturnes ont été définis. L'observation terrain nous a montré que la faible intensité du vent défavorise la dispersion des composés émis durant la nuit. A une échelle plus fine, l'existence d'un trou spectral séparant les phénomènes de grande échelle de ceux liés à la turbulence a été mise en évidence. Ces derniers ont été traités par des approches spectrale et statistique pour quantifier les flux turbulents de quantité de mouvement et de chaleur sensible, pendant la nuit, pour une durée de moyenne de l'ordre de 13 minutes. L'état de stratification de la couche de surface a été pris en compte et déterminé par la théorie de similitude de Monin-Obukhov. Les mesures nocturnes effectuées et l'application de la théorie de Kolmogorov ont permis de déduire les taux de dissipation de l'énergie et la taille des tourbillons à 5,5 m d'altitude. Ce travail a également conduit, par l'analyse chromatographique en phase gazeuse couplée à la spectrométrie de masse, à l'identification, en mangrove, de composés organiques volatils soufrés, des organohalogénés, des BTEX, ... L'ensemble de ces résultats servira ultérieurement à alimenter les modèles de dispersion spécifiques liés aux écosystèmes étudiés.

La construcción de la imagen de la ciudad. Mar del Plata y la apropiación del espacio frente al mar

Résumé : Este trabajo propone una lectura interpretativa de la historia urbana y cultural de Mar del Plata, territorio cuyo escenario costero fue intervenido con importantes modificaciones. Ubicados en este contexto de transformación, se indagarán las prácticas publicitarias que contribuyan a la comprensión de las características del sitio, con el fin de ofrecer interpretaciones en torno a los cambios en la construcción de la imagen de la ciudad, las representaciones sociales que las sustentan y los códigos visuales y discursivos usados para su transmisión. Para alcanzar tales objetivos, se analizarán los productores de mensajes; las imágenes y los textos escritos que las acompañan; el enlace entre estas dos instancias y la interpretación que surge de ellas. Por otro lado, entendemos que la recuperación y lectura interpretativa de las piezas gráficas, elaboradas para la promoción de la ciudad, permiten trazar e interpretar los rasgos fundamentales de la transición de un balneario de elite a uno abierto a todos los grupos sociales. Así, el estudio de las sucesivas imágenes de Mar del Plata, resulta una empresa que favorece el estudio de estas huellas visibles, reveladas en las diferentes campañas e impulsadas por las políticas turísticas de los gobiernos y entidades privadas, entre 1930 y 1945.
Cette étude propose une lecture interprétative de l’histoire urbaine et culturelle de Mar del Plata, un territoire dont le paysage côtier a connu d’importances modifications. Dans ce contexte de transformation, l’article étudie les pratiques publicitaires qui contribuent à la compréhension des caractéristiques de cet endroit, dans le but de proposer des interprétations autour des changements dans la construction de l’image de la ville, les représentations sociales qui les supportent, les codes visuels et discursifs utilisés pour les transmettre.Pour atteindre ces objectifs, l’auteur analyse les émetteurs de messages, les images et les textes qui les accompagnent, le lien entre les deux instances, et l’interprétation qui émane d’elles. La récupération et la lecture interprétative de pièces graphiques, élaborées pour promouvoir la ville, permettent d’identifier et d’interpréter les caractéristiques fondamentales de la transition d’une station balnéaire élitiste qui devient une station qui se popularise. Par conséquent, l’étude des images successives de Mar del Plata entre 1930 et 1945 permet de suivre l’évolution de la station à travers les différentes campagnes definies par les politiques touristiques du gouvernement et les entreprises privées.
This work proposes an interpretative reading of the urban and cultural history of Mar del Plata, a territory whose coastal scenery has been modified in a very important way. Once in this transformational context, we will analyse the advertising practices that contribute to understand the characteristics of the area, in order to offer an interpretation of the changes undergone in the construction of the city image, the social representations that support them and the visual and discursive codes used to transmit them.In order to achieve those aims, we are going to analyse the producers of those messages, the images and the written texts that are included in them, the link between both those instances, and their interpretation. On the other hand, we understand that the recuperation and the interpretative reading of the graphic pieces, elaborated to promote the city, allow a better interpretation of the fundamental characteristics of the transition from an élite seaside resort into one open to all social groups. Thus, the study of the successive images of Mar del Plata favours the study of the visible traces, revealed by the different campaigns and encouraged by the tourist policies of the government and private enterprises, between 1930 and 1945.
