INRA, CFCS Description : The importance of longevity as an economically trait gives a picture of the flock efficiency and adaptation in a particular environment. A study was conducted in the experimental herd of Creole goats at INRA in Guadeloupe in order to test environmental (year and season at first kidding, age at first kidding and weight at first mating as well as genetic (index of resistance, sire) factors that affect longevity of does. Lifetime data set of 387 Creole does, reared at pasture all year long, was recorded over a period of 11 years (2001-2012). Does were bred for reproduction at 11months of age. Three mating periods were organized per year, corresponding to 3 climatic seasons, using buck effect. Data were analyzed using survival models (Survival Kit 6.1). The average age for culling was 5.03 years. The culling rate was higher for goats between 2 and 3 years (17 and 24%) and then gradually decreased. Year and season at first kidding did not have a long term influence on does? longevity; neither does age at first kidding. In contrast, weight at first mating had a significant effect and it can be recommended to farmers to mate primiparous goats heavier than 17 kg. Heritability was estimated to 0.16 allowing some genetic progress. No significant correlation was shown with the genetic breeding value of resistance to gastrointestinal parasitism. This study gave indications to breeders to improve their female flock management and increase does? longevity. INRA, CFCS Description : The Creole pig has always been part of the rural and suburban landscape of Martinique. Currently, this breed is not integrated into a research and conservation program. The Natural Park of Martinique Region (PNRM) has the objective to maintain and valorize the genetic heritage of Martinique?s Creole pig and develop a niche business. Based on PNRM knowledge, some Creole pigs live freely in the mountains in the North, in the South coast and in a few disparate traditional breeders located in the countryside. It is essential to carry out an inventory of the local pig population to propose a scheme for conservation and economic development. In order to favour the appropriation of the Creole pig niche, the PNRM, as a decision maker, acts in a systemic and holistic way by considering the whole Martinican territory and the pig sub-sector: producers involved in the COOPMAR pig farmers? cooperative, researchers of INRA (FWI), the food chain and at least (in a second phase) the consumers and the Martinican society. First of all, the pig farmers are involved (private family farms and specialised pig producers). Researchers and technicians from PNRM and INRA- URZ (Animal production research unit) and INRA-PTEA (Tropical platform in animal experimentation) are performing experimental studies both in controlled conditions and in farms, in order to: i) determine phenotypic and genetic characteristics of Martinique?s Creole pigs in comparison with other pig breeds from the Caribbean area; ii) help at designing genetic management to maintain the population and avoiding inbreeding; iii) help at defining feeding management by a) establishing, at the whole territorial food chain, an inventory of co or by-products available for pig feeding; b) implementing experimental studies in technology for conservation; c) implementing feeding and growing experiments and finally iv) help at defining eco-friendly production systems a) aiming at generate an adequate revenue and b) focusing on ecosystem services such as meat quality, socio-cultural services and circular economy. Seasonal Pattern of the Biogeochemical Properties of Mangrove Sediments Receiving Shrimp Farm Effluents (New Caledonia) Auteur(s) : Marchand, Cyril Molnar, N. Deborde, Jonathan Della Patrona, Luc Meziane, Tarik Éditeur(s) : OMICS Publishing Group Résumé : Coastal tropical shrimp farming may impact the adjacent ecosystems through the release of large quantities of effluents rich in nutrients. In New Caledonia, mangroves are considered as a natural biofilter to reduce impacts on the surrounding World Heritage listed lagoon. Our main objective was to understand the influence of effluent discharge on the biogeochemistry of mangrove sediments. A monitoring of the physico-chemical parameters of mangrove sediments was carried out during a whole year, including active and non active periods of the farm. The parameters studied were: i) benthic primary production (Chl-a concentrations), ii) physico-chemical parameters of sediments (redox potential, pH, salinity, TOC, TN, TS, δ13C and δ15N), iii) concentrations of dissolved nitrogen, iron and phosphorus. A mangrove developing in the same physiographic conditions, presenting the same zonation, and free of anthropogenic input was used as reference. The concentration of benthic Chl-a measured at sediment surface in the effluent receiving mangrove was twice to three times that measured in the control zone whatever the season. We thus suggest that nutrients inputs significantly increased the phytobenthic production in the effluent receiving mangrove during the whole year, even after the cessation of discharges and because of natural seasonal dynamic of phytobenthos. Although the flow of surface OM was increased, the OM content at depth was not higher than in the control mangrove. However, the contribution of mangrove detritus to the sedimentary organic pool was higher probably as a result of higher density and much greater individual size of the mangrove trees. Unlike the control mangrove sediment, the effluent receiving mangrove sediment was not stratified, redox potential values were high and presence of Fe3+ was detected down to 50 cm depth, probably as a result of a larger root system, allowing a better sediment oxygenation and accentuated OM decomposition processes, and thus limiting ecosystem saturation. Active tectonics of the Yakutat - North America collision zone : GPS and geomorphology contribution to the study of strain partitioning ; Tectonique active de la zone de collision Yakutat – Nord Amérique : Apport du GPS et de la géomorphologie à l'étude de la partition de la déformation Auteur(s) : Marechal, Anaïs Auteurs secondaires : Géosciences Montpellier ; Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) - Institut national des sciences de l'Univers (INSU - CNRS) - Université de Montpellier (UM) - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Agence Nationale de la Recherche Université Montpellier Stephane Mazzotti ANR-12-CHEX-0004, DefDyCOr, Partitionnement de la Déformation et Dynamique de la Lithosphère dans les Orogènes Continentales(2012) Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Résumé : In SW Yukon – SE Alaska, the boundary between the Pacific and North America plates is characterized by a syntaxis at the transition between the Aleutian subduction to the W and the Fairweather – Queen Charlotte strike-slip faults to the SE. The relative motion is oblique to the main fault structures, and the area is marked by the Yakutat block collision. From the Chugach – Saint Elias mountains in the plate boundary zone (up to 6 000 m high) to the intraplate strike-slip faults, markers of the present-day deformation give information on its partition in the system.During my PhD, I first measure surface deformation using a dense GPS network, deployed up to 500 km inland the North America plate. After precise processing and corrections of transient effects in the area (postseismic and glacial isostatic rebound), a new residual velocity field is produced for the syntaxis area, from which I derive strain rates. Those data allow me to quantify the fault slip rates for Fairweather and southern Denali strike-slip faults, and to characterize a bi-modal deformation pattern: Along the plate boundary, the deformation is localized on large-scale structures (accretionary prism to the W, Fairweather to the E); In the syntaxis area, strain rates are the highest and the GPS data shows a diffuse intraplate deformation, similar to an indentor pattern. The Yakutat block seems to strongly drive the North America plate deformation. This indentor pattern induces strong lateral variations on the large intraplate faults: the Denali – Totschunda – Duke River system. In a second part, I realize a regional geomorphological study to characterize the role and slip rate of those faults. From very high-resolution Digital Elevation Models (~ 1 m), a detailed cartography is done. On the basis of fieldwork observations, I measure offsets of fluvial and glacial markers, which are sampled for dating. A dextral cumulative deformation is highlighted on the northern Denali Fault, where as all southern Denali is marked by vertical deformation. This study allows me to quantify new slip rates for the system Denali – Totschunda – Duke River, and to show the leading role of the Totschunda (~ 14 mm/a) and Duke River (~ 6 mm/a) faults, contrary to the Denali Fault (~ 1 mm/a) North of the syntaxis. The new tectonic model for the Yakutat collision provides an important case study for the understanding of indentor systems. The concomitance of a rigid-block deformation (to the West) and diffuse deformation (to the East), as well as the near-zero slip rate on the lithospheric-scale southern Denali Fault highlight the major control of boundary conditions and the structural heritage on the orogen deformation.
In order to study the genetic consequences of production of oyster larvae in hatcheries, two factors, specific to hatcheries, were examined: the effect of discarding the smallest larvae (i.e. culling) and the effect of temperature (20°C versus 26°C). A mixed-family approach was used in order to infer the genetic composition of larval populations and family assignment, limiting possible environmental bias and allowing the study of a relatively large number of families using a limited number of larval tanks. Our results show that three multiplexed highly polymorphic microsatellite markers are a powerful tool for family assignment and, consequently, for the study of bivalve larvae genetics. Culling, by selective sieving of the smallest larvae is an advantageous practice at a phenotypic scale as it reduced variance in larval size, variance of developmental rate and time to settlement. Culling of 50% of the larval population only led to 15% less spat, showing a positive phenotypic correlation between larval growth and settlement success. However, culling represents a substantial risk for diversity loss, because it increases the variance of reproductive success among parental oysters. The effective population sizes of early settling cohorts of settlement were lower than those of later ones. Our results show that the settlement of slow growing larvae significantly contributes to minimizing the variability of reproductive success and therefore to maximizing genetic diversity. These results corroborate the low estimations of variability of broodstocks sampled in several French commercial hatcheries, relative to natural populations. The genetic composition of the larval population and the resulting spat was significantly different between the two tested temperatures, revealing genotype x environment interaction for survival. Similarly, genotype x environment interaction was also observed for larval growth as a higher temperature exerted a positive influence on the expression of genetic variability for this trait. Consequently, we can conclude that a temperature of 26°C coupled with culling, to common practice in oyster hatcheries, is likely to amplify the selection pressure for fast growing larvae. To test for this hypothesis, we compared larval developmental traits in the progeny of a hatchery broodstock closed for 7 generations, with the progeny of wild oysters and the two possible hybrids. Our results show that selection of fast growing larvae can counteract presumed inbreeding depression, due to higher mean relatedness among hatchery broodstock than in the wild. Genetic effects of intensive rearing conditions at larval stage are significant and should be taken into account in hatchery practices, especially in terms of genetic diversity management. Postcolonial heritage in the Caribbean ; Patrimoine postcolonial dans la Caraïbe Auteur(s) : Pajard, Anne Auteurs secondaires : Centre de Recherche sur les Pouvoirs Locaux dans la Caraibe (CRPLC) ; Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Résumé : International audience Until the end of the 20th century, heritage was mainly defined in the Caribbean, as in the entire world, by an european conception (linked with the formation of national identities), founded on the value of tangible heritage (rare, ancient objects, monuments and materials) as an historic proof of the value of cultures and peoples. Poets in the Caribbean hardly criticize this evidence that contributed to inferiorized people. Memory and imagination played a central role in the building of a Caribbean cultural identity. Poets tried to show how the common could rise from different patterns, diversity instead of unity, creation instead of fixity. Nevertheless, In the 21st century, frameworks are not available to deal with Caribbean heritage in its diversity (monuments, material, natural and intangible...) and complexity whereas it constitute a challenge for a sustainable society and can play a fundamental role in education as in tourism. To understand to what extent the heritage fabrication may reveal a link with the political and institutional notion of development, we study the learned modalities of making the site of Teotihuacán, its insertion in the national narrative then the forms of its internationalization by means of its registration, in 1987, on the UNESCO World Heritage List. We analyze the links between national archaeology and historic anthropology, as well as their relationship in the space and in the territories of the pre-Colombian cultures. The historical linkage between the contemporary Mexico with the past of the pre-Columbian populations revealed by the archaeological exploration of the site has made possible the reconciliation of both components of the contemporary Indian and Hispanic Mexican identity. From the Octavio Paz’s poetic work, we underline the convergences between the historic and the cultural contents whose representations carried by the site. We show that Teotihuacán took place in a wide mental, cultural and memory territory, being of use to the constitution of a project for future. Since the 1930s, Bali has been generally seen as a traditional tourism destination quite fashionable. Nowadays, a new kind of tourism, rather esoteric if not totally spiritual, is emerging on this small “paradise” often referred as a natural untouched and cultural preserved island. To attire more international tourists, the “Island of Gods”, as the tourism promoters still name this tropical holiday paradise, is now also targeting on the industry of “well-being”. This article deals about the specificity of the local tourism activity which is based on a strong cultural identity and a rich natural and also religious heritage. Uncontrolled development of this predatory industry brings also a lot of new problems, such as pollution or acculturation. Here, our aim is to focus and analyse the real and false ties between heritage, development and tourism, always by keeping in mind that the regional motto about tourism policy still is to encourage “cultural tourism” as a real model (a “brand”, in fact) of success. We especially try to explain, in this current work (still in progress), the touristic situation in the main cultural site located on the island: Ubud. This small city, really boosting during the last decade, is worldwide reputed for the rich cultural performances and seen as “the” artistic capital of Bali. Ubud offers also a perfect example of an intense and dynamic bond between cultural heritage and economic development. Often for the best and sometimes also for the worse. In this rural but international spot, it seems that tourism business allows the local population to live in better ways and, sometimes, even to reborn, culturally speaking! Our case study shows also the big threats behind the current tourism policy: the large scale business occurred by globalization and all the tourism opportunities thus provided cannot hide the real weakness that for sure also concern the balinese way of thinking and living. Cultural tourism could rapidly be transformed in a dangerous kind of tourism of the culture, with all the big (and bad) changes the Balinese don’t want to see happening on their lovely and holy island. So, the present reflection conducts us to think more deeply on some new and alternative ways of developing tourism in Bali. Finally, our aim is to think, first by listening to the desire of the Balinese themselves, in which best manner this “last paradise” will not become a “lost paradise”. Through the comparative analysis of two archaeological sites in Colombia: Ciudad Perdida and San Agustín this study aims to reveal the identity and territory issues linked with the material, intangible and natural heritage and the development of tourism. The history of the acknowledgment of heritage and the analysis of the emergence of those sites as touristic destinations allow to identify all actors involved in both processes: State, scientists, touristic industry, local populations and authorities and native peoples. Through this first analysis it is possible to understand that those patrimonial and touristic processes generate a series of “tests of justifications” (Boltanski, Thévenot, 1991) in which several values and principles of justice are mobilised by the different actors in order to legitimate their stances. In this article the logic of disappropriation, appropriation and re-appropriation of territories is highlighted to explain how the touristic and patrimonial management of the archaeological sites appears as a tool of identity claims integrated both in the legal dynamics of Colombian multicultural policies and the postcolonial episteme of Latin America in general. In breeding programmes, quantitative genetic studies on tropical trees have so far focused on fast-growing, light-demanding species, but no information exists on shade-tolerant, slow-growing species. For this study, 27 3-year-old open-pollinated families of the Neotropical shade-tolerant rainforest tree Sextonia rubra were measured in semicontrolled conditions for 20 morphological, growth, and photosynthesis traits; the effect of genetic relatedness, habitat of provenance, and mother tree status on seedling traits was analysed. Nine traits displayed significant genetic effects, while mother tree status and habitat effects were not significant (P>0.05) for an y trait. Estimated heritability varied between 0.14 and 0.28, with growth-related traits having the highest values. Additive genetic variation correlated positively with nonheritable variation, suggesting that ecological-evolutionary factors increasing or decreasing additive genetic variance may also affect nonheritable variation in the same direction. Our results suggest that quantitative genetic variability should be taken into account in ecological studies on, and in the management of, natural tropical rainforests; further research is needed to investigate genetic × environment interactions, in particular from the point of view of the genetic response of shade-tolerant plant species to variations in light availability. Highly local environmental variability promotes intrapopulation divergence of quantitative traits: an example from tropical rain forest trees Auteur(s) : Brousseau, Louise Bonal, Damien Cigna, Jérémy Scotti, Ivan Auteurs secondaires : Ecologie et Ecophysiologie Forestières (EEF) ; Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) - Université de Lorraine (UL) Ecologie des forêts de Guyane (ECOFOG) ; Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD) - Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) - Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) - AgroParisTech - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) INRA; French MEDD ministry 'Ecofor - Ecosystemes forestiers' programme; EU; Agence Nationale de la Recherche (CEBA) [ANR-10-LABX-0025] Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Oxford University Press (OUP) Résumé : In habitat mosaics, plant populations face environmental heterogeneity over short geographical distances. Such steep environmental gradients can induce ecological divergence. Lowland rainforests of the Guiana Shield are characterized by sharp, short-distance environmental variations related to topography and soil characteristics (from waterlogged bottomlands on hydromorphic soils to well-drained terra firme on ferralitic soils). Continuous plant populations distributed along such gradients are an interesting system to study intrapopulation divergence at highly local scales. This study tested (1) whether conspecific populations growing in different habitats diverge at functional traits, and (2) whether they diverge in the same way as congeneric species having different habitat preferences. Phenotypic differentiation was studied within continuous populations occupying different habitats for two congeneric, sympatric, and ecologically divergent tree species (Eperua falcata and E. grandiflora, Fabaceae). Over 3000 seeds collected from three habitats were germinated and grown in a common garden experiment, and 23 morphological, biomass, resource allocation and physiological traits were measured. In both species, seedling populations native of different habitats displayed phenotypic divergence for several traits (including seedling growth, biomass allocation, leaf chemistry, photosynthesis and carbon isotope composition). This may occur through heritable genetic variation or other maternally inherited effects. For a sub-set of traits, the intraspecific divergence associated with environmental variation coincided with interspecific divergence. The results indicate that mother trees from different habitats transmit divergent trait values to their progeny, and suggest that local environmental variation selects for different trait optima even at a very local spatial scale. Traits for which differentiation within species follows the same pattern as differentiation between species indicate that the same ecological processes underlie intra- and interspecific variation. Methodology is based on the exploitation of a disparate database (the BRGM Banque du Sous-Sol, industrial seismic reflection, exploration boreholes, onshore outcrops), which -through high-resolution onshore-ofshore correlations- leads to interpretations of the post-rift evolution of distinct segments of the margin. The part played by the Messinian salinity crisis in the margin evolution is underlined. The processes of the subsequent restoration of the margin during the Plio-Quaternary are analysed. The distinct evolutions observed on different segments o the margin are related to local forçings (structural heritage and /or variable sediment flux). The results are used to improve the knowledge of littoral aquifers reservoirs.
Their sustainability is questioned in many places around the world as they experience combined effects ofmultiple chronic anthropogenic and natural drivers at local to global scales. From a management perspective, there is a crucial need to understand how the impact of these drivers cascade through the social-ecologicalsystem components. This study develops a transdisciplinary and participatory approach to investigating thesocial-ecological dynamics of a Polynesian coral reef coastal system. A preliminary conceptual model using theDriver-Pressure-State-Impact (DPSI) framework is first being built through participatory modeling workshops. Then, pressure-state relationships are assessed with the help of empirical datasets as a first step towards thevalidation of the DPSI model. Results shows striking social-ecological interactions with different patterns in thelagoon and in the fore reef. Local management should be: (1) less resource-focused to account more specificallyto the existing typology of actors; (2) more spatially-explicit to better distinguish management objectives andactions for the lagoon and the fore reef sub-systems; and (3) more coordinated with terrestrial agencies for acoherent land-sea connection and integration that would both (i) account for existing land-sea interactions and(ii) better reflect the Polynesian cultural heritage that considers nature from ridge to reef as a whole. Suchconceptual models of social-ecological systems are a useful tool to build exploratory scenarios to ultimatelysupport planning decision-making processes. Interactions between tectonics and surface processes in the Alpine foreland: Insights from analogue model and analysis of recent faulting ; Interactions entre tectonique et processus de surface dans l'avant-pays alpin : apports de la modélisation analogique et analyse de la fracturation récente Auteur(s) : Bonnet, Cécile Auteurs secondaires : Géosciences Montpellier ; Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) - Institut national des sciences de l'Univers (INSU - CNRS) - Université de Montpellier (UM) - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Université Montpellier II - Sciences et Techniques du Languedoc Jacques Malavieille(jacques.malavieille@gm.univ-montp2.fr) Cotutelle de thèse entre les Universités Montpellier 2 (France) et de Fribourg (Suisse) Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Résumé : To study the dynamics of an orogen-foreland system and more particularly the impact of surface processes on its development, we base our work on two main axes. In a first part, using analogue tapered wedge models, we investigate the interplay between tectonics, erosion and sedimentation during the orogenic growth. The basis model mimics the evolution of a wedge section extending from the orogen to its foreland basin, with both the structural and the lithological heritages simulated. In a second part, the focus is on the recent tectonic and geomorphologic processes affecting the Swiss Prealpes klippen belt and surrounding structural units (Molasse basin and Jura fold-and-thrust belt). Remote sensing analyses allow to evaluate the impact of tectonics on the drainage pattern and landscape morphology. In addition, local field investigations in the Prealpes provide information on the nature and kinematic of brittle fractures and the paleostress fields.

More recently, the field of reproductive biology has harnessed genome biological approaches to gain insight into molecular processes underlying normal and pathological gametogenesis and gamete function. We are currently witnessing yet another quantum leap in our ability to monitor the flow of information from the genome via the transcriptome to the proteome: tiling arrays that cover both strands of a given target genome and RNA-Seq, a method based on ultra-high throughput DNA sequencing, enable us to study noncoding and protein-coding transcripts with unprecedented precision and depth at a reasonable cost. These technologies have spawned a thriving discipline within the bioinformatics field that employs information technology for managing and interpreting biological high-throughput data. This review outlines database projects and online analysis tools useful for life scientists in general and discusses in detail selected projects that have specifically been developed for researchers and clinicians in the field of reproductive biology. Island Worlds: Spaces, Temporalities, Resources ; Mondes insulaires : espaces, temporalités, ressources Auteur(s) : Baldacchino, Godfrey Dehoorne, Olivier Auteurs secondaires : University of Prince Edward Island Lieux, Identités, eSpaces, Activités (LISA) ; Université Pascal Paoli (UPP) - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Université des Antilles Résumé : International audience Islands were studied for a long time as simple peripheral territories, territories which flesh out the seamless continuation of continental logic, meaningless territories without the prism and perspective of metropolitan power. Through the field of the island studies, critical questions cross various island experiences and their context of development and their configurations; or otherwise study specific temporalities, connectivities and materialities, in the context of globalization. To study islands requires taking the measure of these territories, far from any monolithic vision, to analyze their space with regard to their social and political realities, to identify their economic clout and their context of development and the legacies of the history, in consideration of their geographical neighbourhood. It is a question of considering the exogenous logics which make the island and interrogate its internal dynamics. The subject of study is the island, "island" as object, the island in the management of its space, the definition of its territorial project, the positioning of the island in its environmental perspective and the opportunities it enjoys and the strategies it deploys in the globalized economy. The wealth of scholarship of and about islands and island societies extends beyond the simple spatial frame of the island; ‘the Island’ can be understood as a synecdoche, a convenient, manageable and reasonable microcosm of the continent. This study allows a distinct approach to thinking about the marine resources in a protected area. Indeed, marine ecosystems are essential, especially as they are in New Caledonia, particularly in terms of cultural heritage. It is mainly Kanak who live on the East Coast of the North Province, where the Community and WWF collaborate on the installation of several marine protected areas (MPAs). So far, the Kanak customary management allowed a relative preservation of these ecosystems in a coastal area not subject to the pressures of urbanization, tourism and navigation. The study aims to highlight the issues surrounding the establishment of MPAs and opportunities for local development on the marine environment and local populations. This is to see how this experiment is considered by the various actors (State, Northern Province, associations, etc. customary). And to consider the mechanisms of governance. Spatial and temporal extension of eutrophication associated with shrimp farm wastewater discharges in the New Caledonia lagoon Auteur(s) : Thomas, Yoann Courties, Claude El Helwe, Yasmin Herbland, Alain Lemonnier, Hugues Éditeur(s) : Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd Résumé : Shrimp farming in New Caledonia typically uses a flow-through system with water exchange rates as a tool to maintain optimum hydrological and biological parameters for the crop. Moreover, the effluent shows hydrobiological characteristics (minerals, phytoplankton biomass and organic matter) significantly higher than that of the receiving environment. Separate surveys were carried out in a bay (CH Bay) with a medium-size intensive farm (30 ha) (PO) and in a mangrove-lined creek (TE Creek) near a larger semi-intensive farm (133 ha) (SO). Net loads of nitrogen exported from the semi-intensive farm and the intensive farm amounted to 0.68 and 1.36 kg ha(-1) day(-1), respectively. At CH Bay, discharge effects were spatially limited and clearly restricted to periods of effluent release. The high residence time at site TE favoured the installation of a feedback system in which organic matter was not exported. Mineralization of organic matter led to the release of nutrients, which in turn, caused in an increased eutrophication of this ecosystem. The study of the pico- and nanophytoplankton assemblages showed (i) a shift in composition from picophytoplankton to nanophytoplankton from offshore towards the coast and (ii) a shift within the picophytoplankton with the disappearance of Prochlorococcus and the increase of picoeucaryotes towards the shoreline. These community changes may partially be related to a nitrogen enrichment of the environment by shrimp farm discharges. Thus, in view of the recent addition of the New Caledonian lagoon to the UNESCO World Heritage list, the data presented here could be a first approach to quantify farm discharges and evaluate their impact on the lagoon. The southeast zone of the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina), it is glimpsed as fertile territory for the cultural studies due to its historical, social and heritage density, in a frame of dissimilar geographical conditions. Two intermediate cities, Mar del Plata and Tandil, have been outlined for their processes of sociocultural constructions associated with leisure and tourism. The proposed study includes the first half of the XXth century to recognize the transformations happened in the habitat and the living, observing the social practices and the renewed relations between body and space that will give place to different proposals in relation with the coastal or highland demurrage. For this, it will be emphisized in the reading of the illustrated magazine Caras y Caretas, especially, the images of notes and advertising notices.
