Résumé : The globalization process, accelerating in the last 20 years, has raised important developmental stakes : on the one hand, economic questions with the multiplication of exchanges and its concentration in certain regions of the world; on the other hand globalization has also raised important social issues, with the acceleration of demographic flux and the whole question of "inclusion" associated with this; the issues are also environmental, through increased needs and resource limitations. Tourism represents the ideal vector of this globalization and the stakes it represents. By focusing on international tourism in a country in the South, this article seeks to better understand the stakes involved in developing international tourism resources, by seeking an answer to the question : In what ways can ecotourism constitute a real strategy for economic development, poverty alleviation, and contribute to economic growth and the protection of natural resources ? We will be examining this question in the context the Ranomafana National Park in Madagascar.

The town of Bath is located in the John Crow Mountains in Saint Thomas, Jamaica. Mineral springs flow from the rocks and are piped into the bath house, pictured, where the cold and hot waters of the springs are mixed together. The water’s high mineral (sulfur and lime) content is believed to have medicinal properties. The bath has been officially known as the Bath of the Saint Thomas the Apostle. Bath Fountain Hotel and Spa is run by the Jamaican Ministry of Tourism. In front of the building are many automobiles including a taxi. Along the stream, pictured, are dasheens (taros), ferns, palms, and other trees. Slide labeled Jam. St. Thomas min bath at Bath (SE).

Résumé : Beach sediment cementation (beachrock formation) is a sedimentary process that can transform significant sections of beaches into rock outcrops. This contribution reports the results of two questionnaire surveys (one focusing on foreign tourists and the other on local people) carried out in coastal resorts of the island of Lesbos (Greece), on the perceptions of beach users regarding the impacts of beachrocks on their recreational activities. The survey focusing on foreign tourists showed that the majority of the interviewees took notice of the formations and commented negatively on them. Although most of the interviewees did not consider beachrocks a significant safety risk, a considerable proportion of the sample stated that beachrocks influenced their beach ratings that they would prefer beachrock-free beaches and would be willing to contribute financially to preventative and protective measures. In contrast, the results of the survey focusing on local people, who are more familiar with the phenomenon, showed a high perception of beachrock-related risks and limited beachrock tolerance. In addition to the safety risks that the irregular, slippery, beachrock surfaces may pose to beach users, beachrocks may also degrade beach aesthetics. promote beach sediment erosion and decrease the beach carrying capacity. As beachrocks are a common attribute of tropical, subtropical and low-temperate beaches that are typically associated with major tourist destinations, and are likely to spread under global warming conditions, they may be considered as a significant threat to the coastal tourist industry. Résumé : International audience
This article introduces the theme issue devoted to tourism in Latin America and the authors explain the approach of the international and interdisciplinary research. Interest in tourism is twofold: 1/ tourism allows the study of specific places, types of development and consumption, 2/ analysis of the tourism phenomenon helps to understand the world, highlighting the socio -Latin American economic. The phenomenon of tourism must be understood in all its complexity and must introduce the political dimension. The Tourism Studies on Latin America cannot ignore the political strategies associated with the dominant economic model or the restructuring of power relations behind it. Tourism development is not apolitical. The development of tourism is not apolitical.
En este artículo se presenta el número temático dedicado al turismo en América Latina y los autores explican el enfoque de la investigación internacional e interdisciplinaria. El interés por el turismo es doble: 1 / es el estudio de sitios específicos, tipos de planificación y el consumo; 2 /el fenómeno del turismo también se explica el mundo y se puede destacar la realidad socioeconómica de América Latina. Debe estudiar el fenómeno turístico en toda su complejidad e introducir la dimensión política. Los estudios de Turismo en América Latina no pueden ignorar las estrategias políticas asociadas con el modelo económico dominante o la reestructuración de las relaciones de poder detrás de él. El desarrollo del turismo no es apolítico.
Dans le cadre de cet article qui introduit le dossier thématique consacré au tourisme en Amérique latine, les auteurs expliquent la démarche de cette recherche transdisciplinaire et internationale. L’intérêt pour le tourisme est double : 1/ il permet d’étudier des lieux, des types d’aménagements et de consommations ; 2/ il permet de lire le monde, de mettre en évidence les réalités socio-économiques de l’Amérique latine. Il faut étudier le phénomène touristique dans toute sa complexité et introduire la dimension politique. Les études touristiques sur l’Amérique latine ne peuvent pas ignorer les stratégies politiques associées au modèle économique dominant ni la recomposition des relations de pouvoir qu’il sous-tend. Le développement du tourisme n’est pas apolitique.

Résumé : Two major findings emerge from the theoretical analysis of Transport-Tourism link via a game theory type model of capacity coordination. Firstly the model explains the optimal capacities ratio of Transport and Tourism by the quotient of the ratio of tourism type (ratio of the length of stay in the destination and of transport duration) divided by the installation costs ratio (of transport and tourism).The corollary of this first finding gives the second outcome: The optimal transport and Tourism profit ratio is the product of the ratio of the type of tourism by the index of overcapacity conditions (a non linear combination of installation costs, and durations). From these results, it follows an interpretive grid that allows, according to tourism types, firstly to identify the optimal overcapacities by the difference between installation costs; and secondly the equilibrium ratio of profits according to the overcapacity direction and the tourism types.
Deux résultats ressortent de l’analyse théorique du lien Transport-tourisme via un modèle de coordination des capacités : l’expression et les déterminants des capacités et des profits optimaux relatifs du Transport et du Tourisme. L’article démontre que le rapport des capacités optimales de transport et de tourisme dépend du ratio comparatif de leurs coûts d’installation à celui inversé de leur poids relatif. Ce premier résultat a pour corollaire le second : le rapport d’équilibre des profits est le produit des indicateurs du type de tourisme (le ration des temps respectifs dans le transport et dans la destination) de la destination par celui identifiant les conditions de surcapacité relative. De ces résultats généraux, il suit une grille d’interprétation qui permet d’identifier d’abord le rapport optimal des capacités selon l’écart entre les coûts d’installation et le type de tourisme ; et ensuite le rapport d’équilibre des profits selon les sens des surcapacités relatives et le types de tourisme.

The British Colonial Hotel, now the British Colonial Hilton Hotel, is located on the site of Fort Nassau which was demolished in 1837. By 1900, Henry Flagler had built the original Colonial Hotel, the only beachfront hotel in Nassau, which was destroyed by fire. A Mediterranean-style replica opened in 1922. The hotel offers views of Nassau Harbor and was the location for two James Bond movies. In the picture, a man is walking from the hotel along a walking path decorated with large stone vases and benches. Slide labeled Bryant Nassau Mar .'46, British Colonial Hotel.
