Walter W. S. Cook standing in Nicholls Town, a town in northeastern Andros, Bahamas. Cook was the founding director of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, served as an art professor from 1932 to 1953, and was historian of Medieval Spanish art. He was a companion of William Junior Bryant during Bryant’s trips to Andros and New Providence in 1946. This paper aims to decipher the thermal evolution of the Montagne Noire Axial Zone (MNAZ,southern French Massif Central) gneiss core and its metasedimentary cover through determination ofP–T paths and temperature gradients. Migmatitic gneiss from the core of the dome record a clock-wise evolution culminating at 725 25 °C and 0.8 0.1 GPa with partial melting, followed by adecompression path with only minor cooling to 690 25° C and 0.4 0.1 GPa. Field structuralanalyses as well as detailed petrological observations interpreted in a petrogenetic grid indicate thatthe cover sequence experienced LP-HT metamorphism at <0.4 GPa. Apparent thermal gradientswithin the cover were determined with garnet–biotite thermometry and Raman Spectroscopy on Car-bonaceous Matter. High-temperature apparent gradients (e.g. 530 °C km1 along one transect) areexplained by late brittle–ductile extensional shearing evidenced by phyllonites that post-date peakmetamorphism. In areas where normal faults are less abundant and closely spaced, gradients of 20to 50 °C km1 are calculated. These gradients can be accounted for by a combination of domeemplacement and ductile shearing (collapse of isotherms), without additional heat input. Finally, thethermal evolution of the MNAZ is typical for many gneiss domes worldwide as well as with otherLP-HT terranes in the Variscides.

The following marine turtles have been recorded in the Bahamas: Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, Loggerhead Turtle, Leatherback Turtle, Olive Ridley Turtle, and Kemp’s Ridley Turtle. The Green Turtle is listed (2013) on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened species as endangered. All marine turtles are now fully protected under Bahamian law, including the Green Turtle. Green Turtle meat and cartilage were used to make turtle soup which was once a delicacy in the Bahamian Out Islands. This image features two men, one carrying the body of a Green Turtle, walking on path from the dock near Man of War Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. On the dock is also a pile of ropes and propane tanks. The British Colonial Hotel, now the British Colonial Hilton Hotel, is located on the site of Fort Nassau which was demolished in 1837. By 1900, Henry Flagler had built the original Colonial Hotel, the only beachfront hotel in Nassau, which was destroyed by fire. A Mediterranean-style replica opened in 1922. The hotel offers views of Nassau Harbor and was the location for two James Bond movies. Résumé : A new strain of L. stylirostris was introduced in New Caledonia. Quarantine facilities were set up inland using RAS and artificial seawater. After 5 months of rearing, all the 16 initial families were still represented with a 50% average survival. Three samplings for known pathogens were made during that period, all of them negative. Half the animals were taken to outdoor ponds for rearing to reproduction size when the rest was used to test different arrangements for a biosecure rearing until reproduction. Numerous spawnings and nauplii were obtained but larval rearings could not be completed. Different options are considered for the set up of a biosecure facility allowing the rearing and the breeding of pathogen free strains of shrimp.
Afin de disposer d’une plus forte diversité génétique exploitable, des producteurs calédoniens ont, en relation avec l’Ifremer, récemment introduit d’Hawaii une autre souche de crevette de l’espèce Litopenaeus stylirostris, domestiquée et garantie exempte de pathogènes. Malgré cette garantie sanitaire, les crevettes ont été maintenues en observation dans une quarantaine tertiaire pendant cinq mois avant la sortie et l’élevage d’une moitié de l’effectif en bassins terre extérieurs. L’autre moitié a été conservée dans les installations de quarantaine comme stock de secours au cas où un problème affecterait les crevettes élevées à l’extérieur. Les installations de quarantaine ont été progressivement transformées, tout en continuant les élevages, afin de réaliser un prototype de conservatoire biosécurisé. Les crevettes ont été élevées jusqu’à la taille de géniteurs en utilisant de l’eau de mer artificielle puis de l’eau de mer naturelle traitée au chlore. Des essais de reproduction et d’élevage larvaire ont été menés et de nombreuses pontes fécondées ont été obtenues mais les élevages larvaires, à une exception, n’ont pas dépassé le stade Zoé 3. Les analyses par PCR réalisées sur les crevettes du conservatoire ont montré que les mesures et précautions sanitaires qui avaient été prises avaient préservé le statut sanitaire “sans pathogènes” initial. Cette expérience a permis de mieux cerner les problèmes qui pouvaient se poser pour la mise en place et le fonctionnement d’installations biosécurisées utilisant des circuits fermés. Ces enseignements ont servi à répertorier les principales contraintes envisageables pour la réalisation d’un futur conservatoire crevette qui viendrait conforter et sécuriser les souches actuellement disponibles en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Plusieurs options sont proposées pour les crevettes devant entrer dans le conservatoire (sans quarantaine, quarantaine tertiaire, quarantaine primaire puis secondaire) et pour le type de fonctionnement du conservatoire. Les principaux critères pour le choix du site, l’utilisation de l’eau de mer et son traitement, les systèmes de recirculation sont abordés; et des schémas d’installations de quarantaine et de conservatoire sont proposés.
