Amazonian former gold mined soils as a source of methylmercury: Evidence from a small scale watershed in French Guiana Auteur(s) : Guedron, Stephane Grimaldi, Michel Grimaldi, Catherine Cossa, Daniel Tisserand, Delphine Charlet, Laurent Éditeur(s) : Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd Résumé : Total mercury (HgT) and monomethylmercury (MMHg) were investigated in a tropical head watershed (1 km(2)) of French Guiana. The watershed includes a pristine area on the hill slopes and a former gold mined flat in the bottomland. Concentrations of dissolved and particulate HgT and MMHg were measured in rain, throughfall, soil water and at three points along the stream. Samples were taken in-between and during 14 storm events at the beginning and middle of the 2005 and 2006 rainy seasons. Dissolved and particulate HgT concentrations in the stream slightly increased downstream, while dissolved and particulate MMHg concentrations were low at the pristine sub-watershed outlet (median = 0.006 ng L-1 and 1.84 ng g(-1), respectively) and sharply increased at the gold mined flat outlet (median = 0.056 ng L-1 and 6.80 ng g(-1), respectively). Oxisols, which are dominant in the pristine area act as a sink of HgT and MMHg from rain and throughfall inputs. Hydromorphic soils in the flat are strongly contaminated with Hg (including Hg droplets) and their structure has been disturbed by former gold-mining processes, leading to multiple stagnant water areas where biogeochemical conditions are favorable for methylation. In the former gold mined flat high dissolved MMHg concentrations (up to 0.8 ng L-1) were measured in puddles or suboxic soil pore waters, whereas high dissolved HgT concentrations were found in lower Eh conditions. Iron-reducing bacteria were suggested as the main methylators since highest concentrations for dissolved MMHg were associated with high dissolved ferrous iron concentrations. The connection between saturated areas and stagnant waters with the hydrographic network during rain events leads to the export of dissolved MMHg and HgT in stream waters, especially at the beginning of the rainy season. As both legal and illegal gold-mining continues to expand in French Guiana, an increase in dissolved and particulate MMHg emissions in the hydrographic network is expected. This will enhance MMHg bio-amplification and present a threat to local populations, whose diet relies mainly on fish. Global marine primary production constrains fisheries catches Auteur(s) : Chassot, Emmanuel Bonhommeau, Sylvain Dulvy, Nicholas K. Melin, Frederic Watson, Reg Gascuel, Didier Le Pape, Olivier Éditeur(s) : Wiley-blackwell Publishing, Inc Résumé : Primary production must constrain the amount of fish and invertebrates available to expanding fisheries; however the degree of limitation has only been demonstrated at regional scales to date. Here we show that phytoplanktonic primary production, estimated from an ocean-colour satellite (SeaWiFS), is related to global fisheries catches at the scale of Large Marine Ecosystems, while accounting for temperature and ecological factors such as ecosystem size and type, species richness, animal body size, and the degree and nature of fisheries exploitation. Indeed we show that global fisheries catches since 1950 have been increasingly constrained by the amount of primary production. The primary production appropriated by current global fisheries is 17-112% higher than that appropriated by sustainable fisheries. Global primary production appears to be declining, in some part due to climate variability and change, with consequences for the near future fisheries catches. Marine cage fish farming Auteur(s) : Espeut, P. Harache, Yves Lemarie, Gilles Ricard, Jean-marc Résumé : Marine capture fisheries in Jamaica is primarily artisanal in nature ansd is conducted maiinly by fishermen operating from canoes. Approximately 95% of these fishermen operate on the coastal shelf and its associated banks. The commercial species harvested comprise bottom-dwelling, coral reef species and free swimming species of finfish. Other fishery resources of commercial value include marine shrimp, conch and lobsters. Catch statistics are not available for all species, but the Department of Fisheries reports a slight decline in fishery production with production decreasing from 16 milion lbs in 1990, despite the fact that fishing efforts have doubled. Over this period the number of registered fishermen has grown from 12 000 to 16 000, al of whom are engaged in full-time fishing. There arealso part-time fishermen who are not registered. The decline in fish catch is accompanied by a decrease in fish size and quality, suggesting that the fisheries are under pressure and have already exceeded optimum production in relation to vailable resources. As a result the economic returns to fishermen are declining. There are also other problems, such as high incidence of conflicts among fishermen at sea, the high cost of purchasing boats, outboard engine fuel, and equipment, with together with the dangers involved in fishing offshore (piracy, and praedial larceny) create serious social ans economic difficulties for fishermen. Notwithstanding, there is an apparent move on the part of the fishermen to leave the industryor to seek alternative forms of employment. In fact, the Department ofFisheries reports that it is still reciving applications for new licences to operate fishing boats. This is probably due to the fact that where the basis of a community is fishing, it becomes difficult to introduce alternative forms of employment, such as cottage industries, village crafts and other trades. In 1987 the Jamaica Department of Fisheries prepared a Management plan which proposed several conservation measures to promote the efficient use of fisheries resources and to control the development of the Fishery in such a way that the country would receive highest benefits. Adequate attention was given to limitations on fishing gear, institution of closed seasons and related legislation. Strategies to diversify the marine fishing were also proposed. The 1990 five year Devlopment Plan for marine fisheries also focuses on proper resource management in order to reverse trends associated with the overexploitation of marine resources. According to the plan, emphasis will be placed on inland fisheries and mariculture in order to reduce pressure on the fisheries. Inland fisheries in the form of freshwater fish fanning has expanded significantly over the past 10 years with production increasing from less than 0,5 million lbs. in 1980 to in excess of 6.0 million lbs. in 1989. However, some freshwater fish farmers are already experiencing serious competition for water usage and, to a lesser extent for land from crop-producing farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture is of the view that marine cage culture technologically has the potential for introduction in Jamaica . This technologyhas been successfully developed in Norway and the technology is currentlty being experimentally utilized in several countries in the area. The technology, if widely utilized in Jamaica, couls significantly reduce pressure on fisheries, making fishing more cost effective and improve the economic returns to fishermen. Already there exist some technical and institutional capabilities in Jamaica to support commercial development of marine cage culture. The Department of Fisheries has highly trained personnel in aquaculture and marine fisherie, some of whom are directly responsible for the success of freshwater fish fanning. In adition, the Marine Laboratory at the Univesity of the West Indies (UWI) is caarying research on hatchery facilities for marine cage farming. The Department of Fisheries will seek the collaboration ofg the marine unit at UWI which could provide fingerlings of selected marine species for cage 1 Les pêcheries de captage marin en Jamaïque sont principalement de nature artisanale et elles sont dirigées principalement par les pêcheurs qui travaillent depuis des canoës. The detailed study of the sedimentary architecture and stacking pattern permitted separation of the pile into five depositional units bounded by erosional surfaces and characterised by separate facies associations (genetic sequences = units in this paper). At the base of the series, aeolian deposits (Unit 1) mark the development of a possible coastal desert during the late Miocene aridification. The major Pliocene sea-level rise (Transgressive Systems Tract) led to the drowning of the continental platform into a discrete shoreface-foreshore sequence (Unit 2), followed by an expanded deltaic sequence (Unit 3) that represents the main outcrop of the area. The sedimentary fabric of this prograding wedge during the Highstand Systems Tract reveals laterally stacked pluri-hectometic mouth bars built by the abrupt switching of a bird-foot delta during the Pliocene highstand. The clinoforms are deeply incised by submarine gullies filled both by periodic river-driven turbidite and tidal currents (Unit 4) during the coeval growing of the delta. The topset of the prograding wedge and associated gullies infill is truncated by an overall erosional unconformity that marks the widespread development of an extensive braid-delta system (Unit 5) during the lower Pleistocene sea-level drop (Lowstand Systems Tract). The last 6 m of the Braid-delta unit is overprinted by a ferallitic profile, forming the surface of the plateau and indicating long-term subaerial exposure and weathering processes consistent with the maximum warming of the middle to late Pleistocene interglacial periods. The successive abrupt shifts of the depositional systems through the sedimentary pile indicate a high-amplitude sea level amplified by major coastal uplifts and the reorganisation of the fluvial network. In this context, the palaeo-Cuanza prograding wedge signals the westward tilting and 60 m total uplift of the coastal plain during the Pliocene. A new uplift pulse by differential tilt and slope increase is deduced from the widespread development of the braid-delta complex during the early Pleistocene. The last tectonic event corresponds to the 80- to 100-m uplift and ferallitic paedogenesis during the middle to late Pleistocene interglacial stages. Morocco is one of the few countries in North Africa to have a range of ecosystems endemic biodiversity remarkable. These ecosystems are seriously threatened by the expansion and development of certain sectors such as tourism, agriculture and urbanization. Recognizing the importance of these ecosystems in sustainable development, UNESCO has identified some of them by the World Heritage label by giving them the status of "Biosphere Reserve". This contribution attempts to examine the Moroccan experience in policy areas protected from the example of the Biosphere Reserve of Arganeraie. Apport d'un programme de génétique à une filière de production aquacole : l'exemple de l'ostréiculture Auteur(s) : Lapegue, Sylvie Bedier, Edouard Goyard, Emmanuel Degremont, Lionel Baud, Jean-pierre Gerard, Andre Goulletquer, Philippe Boudry, Pierre Éditeur(s) : Styli 2003. Trente ans de crevetticulture en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Nouméa - Koné, 2-6 juin 2003. 2004. Gorarant C, Harache Y, Herbland A, Mugnier C. Ed. Ifremer, Actes de Colloque, n°38, pp.113-120 Résumé : Two oyster species are currently present along the French coasts : the indigenous European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis), and the Pacific cupped oyster (Crassostrea gigas), that has been introduced from Japan since the beginning of the 70ies. The flat oyster successively suffered from two protozoan diseases during the 60ies and its production decreased from 20 000 tons/year by that time to 1 500 tons/year nowadays. Consequently, the oyster production is principally (99%) based upon the Pacific oyster species with approximately 150 000 tons/year among which 90% are grown from the natural spat. However, the hatchery production of this species is developing and was estimated to 400 to 800 millions spat in 2002. Moreover, strengthened relationships between IFREMER and the 5 commercial hatcheries, that all joined the SYSAAF (Union of the French poultry, shellfish and fish farming selectors), allow to plan for new genetic breeding programs. At the end of the 80ies, IFREMER initiated a genetic breeding program for the resistance of the European flat oyster to the bonamiosis, and obtained strains more tolerant to this disease. After two generations of massal selection, molecular markers had identified a reduced genetic basis in this program. It was then reoriented to an intra-familial selection. However, we were confronted to a zootechnic problem to manage such a scheme and we compromised by an intra-cohorts of families selection scheme managed using molecular markers. The program has now reached the transfer level with experimentation at a professional scale. Concerning the Pacific cupped oyster, and in parallel with the obtaining and the study of polyploids, performance of different Asian cupped oyster strains were compared to the one introduced in France thirty years ago and currently suffering from summer mortalities. The local strain exhibited better performance, certainly based upon a good local adaptation. In other respects, although early growth is a relevant criteria for selection for growth to commercial stage, it is not to be privileged in the context of an oyster producing region with a limited food availability. Contrary, the spat summer mortality became a priority for numerous teams (genetic, physiology, pathology, ecology,...) joined in the MOREST program. The first results showed important survival differences between fullsib and halsib families. They indicate a genetic determinism to this character "survival" and promote for its selection. The expansion of microfinance in Haiti does not seem to correspond to the actual development of microentreprises borrowing from microfinance organizations. In this article, we analyze the extent to which microfinance methodology determine the financial performance of borrowers. Based on a sample of 62 microentrepreneurs, we estimated an econometric model linking turnover and 6 explanatory variables: interest rate, credit amount, repayment period, education level, location, partner’s gender. According to our results, the variables explaining the microentrepreneurs' financial results are: the repayment period, the female gender of partner, and the location. It is therefore confirmed that a long repayment period improves the financial results of microenterprises benefiting from microfinance. On the other hand, a low interest rate does not necessarily guarantee better financial results since the interest rate is not significantly correlated with the turnover of the microentreprises. La famille invisible. Illégitimité des naissances et construction des liens familiaux en Martinique (XVIIe siècle - début du XIXe siècle) Auteur(s) : Cousseau, Vincent Auteurs secondaires : Centre de recherches interdisciplinaires en histoire, art et musicologie (CRIHAM) ; Université de Limoges (unilim) - Université de Poitiers Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Résumé : International audience In the fragmented colonial society of the West Indies during the slavery period, building up a stable family required to get over many obstacles. The status differences, the lack of fluidity in the marriage market and the deep redefinition of the gender relations are interrelated phenomenon which question both the marriage as being the unique pattern of family organization and the structuration of family ties. If the official conjugal model remains the norm for white Creole women, it is not true neither for their husband nor for free coloured people and slaves. Therefore, the expansion of adultery and people living as husband and wife, which were denounced particularly by the religious authorities, lead to a high rate and continuous growth of illegitimate births. As a consequence, family ties gradually develop with no institutional control, hence no traces of them in the different sources but it also gives them an obvious flexibility, especially for the slaves. Fish aggregating devices (FADs): good or bad fishing tools? A question of scale and knowledge FOREWORD: Tahiti International Conference "Tuna Fisheries and FADs", November 2011 Auteur(s) : Taquet, Marc Éditeur(s) : Edp Sciences S A Résumé : It is estimated that fish aggregating devices (FADs) are now used for over 40% of world tropical tuna catches, making this technique a major phenomenon for high seas fisheries worldwide, and one that has experienced great expansion over the past three decades. The question of whether the FAD is a good or a bad tool for the exploitation of marine resources depends on many parameters. To respond to this question, it is necessary to distinguish different scales of exploitation (artisanal vs. industrial) and various types of FADs (anchored vs. drifting), but it is also very important to gather more data and conduct further research on this topic to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon and of its impacts. As such, twelve years after the first international conference devoted to FADs, which was held in Martinique (French West Indies), a new multi-scalar global assessment of FAD fisheries development and a review of the progress of research in this field was deemed vital. The latest international conference, "Tuna Fisheries and Fish Aggregating Devices", was held in Tahiti in November 2011, and it was an event that welcomed nearly 150 conference attendees from 40 different countries, three ocean regions, and the Mediterranean. This is an analysis of the relevant literature gathered by the author in the bibliographic database FADBASE. Then, the major issues already addressed by the scientific community are set out, and gaps and research priorities are highlighted for anchored and drifting FADs management. Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Geological Society of London Résumé : This paper presents the background for the calculation of physical properties of an aggregate from constituent crystal properties and the texture of the aggregate in a coherent manner. Emphasis is placed on the important tensor properties of 2nd and 4th rank with applications in rock deformation, structural geology, geodynamics and geophysics. We cover texture information that comes from pole figure diffraction and single orientation measurements (electron backscattered diffraction or EBSD, electron channelling pattern, Laue pattern, optical microscope universal-stage). In particular, we provide explicit formulae for the calculation of the averaged tensor from individual orientations or from an orientation distribution function (ODF). For the latter we consider numerical integration and an approach based on the expansion into spherical harmonics. This paper also serves as a reference paper for the mathematical tensor capabilities of the texture analysis software MTEX, which is a comprehensive, freely available MatLab toolbox that covers a wide range of problems in quantitative texture analysis, for example, ODF modelling, pole figure to ODF inversion, EBSD data analysis and grain detection. MTEX offers a programming interface which allows the processing of involved research problems as well as highly customizable visualization capabilities; MTEX is therefore ideal for presentations, publications and teaching demonstrations. Environmental stressors that can impact on DOHaD encompass a variety of environmental and occupational hazards as well as deficiency and oversupply of nutrients and energy. They can disrupt early developmental processes and lead to increased susceptibility to disease/dysfunctions later in life. Presentations at the fourth Conference on Prenatal Programming and Toxicity in Boston, in October 2014, provided important insights and led to new recommendations for research and public health action. The conference highlighted vulnerable exposure windows that can occur as early as the preconception period and epigenetics as a major mechanism than can lead to disadvantageous "reprogramming" of the genome, thereby potentially resulting in transgenerational effects. Stem cells can also be targets of environmental stressors, thus paving another way for effects that may last a lifetime. Current testing paradigms do not allow proper characterization of risk factors and their interactions. Thus, relevant exposure levels and combinations for testing must be identified from human exposure situations and outcome assessments. Testing of potential underpinning mechanisms and biomarker development require laboratory animal models and in vitro approaches. Only few large-scale birth cohorts exist, and collaboration between birth cohorts on a global scale should be facilitated. DOHaD-based research has a crucial role in establishing factors leading to detrimental outcomes and developing early preventative/remediation strategies to combat these risks ISSN: 0013-7227 hal-01187409 https://hal-univ-rennes1.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-01187409 DOI : 10.1210/EN.2015-1350 PUBMED : 26241067 | Partager |
Tuberculosis, very old disease, is more than ever presented on the global health scene with 9 million new cases per year. This disease, which remains a major cause of mortality is one of the most intractable public health and international issues. The various control programs, launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent and guarantee the cure of tuberculosis patients face difficulties that undermine their effectiveness. Indeed, the expansion of human virus rinimunodéficience (VIII) and its negative influence on susceptibility to tuberculosis, the rapid growth of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, poverty and population growth, are a set of factors detrimental to application of preventive and curative measures. The difficult economic circumstances undoubtedly leading to accumulation of these factors have a break between rich and poor countries about the impact and the revolution of tuberculosis worldwide. To address the disparity of the results of tuberculosis struggles, the methodologies used in epidemiology of tuberculosis must be part of a process efficiency. Molecular indispensable to the identification and classification of strains belonging to the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC) markers each have their own potentials that need to be identified for proper use in epidemiological and phylogenetic studies. The purpose of this thesis is to extract new knowledge of the results of genotyping data stored in databases, knowledge of the polymorphism of genomic carrier to estimate the contribution of each marker in the classification of TCM. The use of different methods of phylogenetic reconstruction and modeling data was essential. In light of the results obtained, the thesis proposes a new classification methodology for a robust recovery phylogeography of TCM in connection with the history of human migration have started in sub-Saharan Africa. Each genotyping method with cost efficiency and equity, should be measured in relation to the resources available and discounts results, it is interesting to strengthen the knowledge of markers and propose alternatives leading to the classification of mycobacteria. Thus, the results obtained in this thesis bring more coherence to the proposed characterization of clones MTC circulating worldwide solutions. http://www.theses.fr/2012AGUY0518/document | Partager |
Tuna fishing and a review of payaos in the Philippines Auteur(s) : Dickson, J Natividad, Ac Éditeur(s) : Pêche thonière et dispositifs de concentration de poissons, Caribbean-Martinique, 15-19 Oct 1999 15-19 octobre 1999 Résumé : Payao is a traditional concept, which has been successfully commercialized to increase the landings of several species valuable to the country's export and local industries. It has become one of the most important developments in pelagic fishing that significantly contributed to increased tuna production and expansion of purse seine and other fishing gears. The introduction of the payao in tuna fishing in 1975 triggered the rapid development of the tuna and small pelagic fishery. With limited management schemes and strategies, however, unstable tuna and tuna-like species production was experienced in the 1980s and 1990s. In this paper, the evolution and development of the payao with emphasis on the technological aspect are reviewed. The present practices and techniques of payao in various parts of the country, including its structure, ownership, distribution, and fishing operations are discussed. Monitoring results of purse seine/ringnet operations including handline using payao in Celebes Sea and Western Luzon are presented to compare fishing styles and techniques, payao designs and species caught. The fishing gears in various regions of the country for harvesting payao are enumerated and discussed. The inshore and offshore payaos in terms of sea depth, location, designs, fishing methods and catch composition are also compared. Fishing companies and fisherfolk associations involved in payao operation are presented to determine extent of utilization and involvement in the municipal and commercial sectors of the fishing industry. The issues and problems concerning the use of payao, and its biological, economic impact as well as management aspect are presented. Recommendations are given for future research and actions. Limitations and applications of parataxonomy for community forest management in southwestern Amazonia Auteur(s) : Baraloto, Christopher Ferreira, Evandro Rockwell, Cara Walthier, Francisco Auteurs secondaires : Ecologie des forêts de Guyane (ECOFOG) ; Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD) - Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) - Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) - AgroParisTech - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Parque Zoobotanico ; Universidade Federal do Acre School of forest resources and conservation ; University of Florida [Gainesville] Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Ethnobotany Research and Applications Résumé : We examined the limitations of parataxonomic inventories for developing management plans for woody plant resources in tropical rain forests of southwestern Amazonia. Using compilations of herbarium labels, forest personnel interviews and published species descriptions, we assessed the accuracy of common names as parataxonomic units (PUs). We identified 384 common names for 310 harvested woody plant species in the Brazilian state of Acre, of which only 50% were unique to a single taxonomic species. About 10% of common names referred to more than one species, more than half of which included multiple genera. For the 106 species from the Acre sample common to the MAP region including Madre de Dios, Peru and Pando, Bolivia, we identified 198 common names. Splitting was much more frequent in this sample, with more than 80% of species having more than one common name. When the Acre sample was expanded to 131 species from the Brazilian Amazon region, including the states of Amazonas and Para, we identified 740 common names, with nearly 90% of species being represented by more than one common name. Errors and inaccuracy of parataxonomy may contribute to market instability if product orders can not be homogenized within regional markets, and to unsustainable harvests if species are mistakenly lumped into single parataxonomic units. We discuss several programs currently being implemented by our collaborative team in the region to address this issue, including field guides based on digital photography, field courses, and workshops featuring discussions between regional inventory personnel and botanists. Le développement de produits à base de fruit à pain permettra The results of this study the composition of breadfruit harvested in an area of agro climatic soil contrasting views, and its starch, show that the starch content of breadfruit appears to be influenced by season, but not by collection area. The starch content is much higher for breadfruit developed during the driest season is a very original result. Knowledge of the development cycle of breadfruit in Martinique has been described for the first time, to determine an optimal harvest period compared to flower: the 16th week for maximum growth, or the 17th week for a higher starch content. The study by Worrell et al., (1998), the only currently published, conducted in Barbados, showed a longer cycle of about 2 weeks. From the perspective of genetic diversity, breadfruit harvested in Martinique as a single group, in contrast to those collected in Guadeloupe that are close to two subgroups. With regard to starch, our results show that the size of starch granules of mature fruits are between 9 and 12 microns. Their size increases with the growth of the fruit as an immature fruit in their mean diameter was 7.5 microns. This is B-type starches with very high crystallinity, with temperatures of gelatinization are around 75 °C. Agro climatic soil factors, humidity took an active role on the quality of starch, since both the amount of amylose and amylopectin molecular weight of the decline. The starch has a solubility and low swelling of the same order of magnitude as the conventional starches and high viscosity to gelatinization and retrogradation, giving it a suitability for use as a gelling agent.Testing of food applications were made in bakery and extrusion. Changes in products like crackers gave moderately satisfactory results with 100 % breadfruit flour. Incorporation into bread flour breadfruit has deleterious actions on the baking. The acceptability of a taste "nature green" conferred by the breadfruit flour will be particularly assessed in future work.Product development based breadfruit allow several things, which meet the growing demand for food diversification. http://www.theses.fr/2012AGUY0517/document | Partager |
Structures géologiques de la marge continentale à l'ouest du spitzberg Auteur(s) : Malod, J. Mascle, Jean Éditeur(s) : Springer Résumé : The main structural features of the continental margin off West Spitzberg are outlined. Seaward the Atka ridge has acted like a dam for the eastward-flowing sediments and thus helped to build up a large sedimentary basin, narrowing towards the North. Magnetic and seismic data show that the Atka Valley is probably an active accretion rift valley. These results are in good agreement with the last hypothesis on the opening of the Norwegian Sea. During the Pliocene, a tectonic event may have affected Atka ridge and modified the subsequent sedimentation. Intervention in physical education and sport: trends and developments in a decade of Francophone research Auteur(s) : Musard, Mathilde Poggi, Marie-Paule Auteurs secondaires : Laboratoire de Semio-Linguistique, Didactique et Informatique (LASELDI) ; Université de Franche-Comté (UFC) Centre de recherches et de ressources en éducation et formation (CRREF) ; Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Taylor & Francis (Routledge) Résumé : International audience Introduction: The aims of this literature review were to characterize the communications presented during six Association for Research on Intervention in Sport (ARIS) French-speaking congresses from 2000 to 2010 and to compare the research trends between French and English research traditions. The definition of pedagogy is close to the notion of intervention and attempts to study, in an interacting or isolated way, three key components – the educator (professor, coach, teacher's educator), the participants (students, children, adults) and the curriculum/knowledge in specific contexts. The theoretical framework is centred on the social construction of the scientific knowledge. Method: All the communications of the six ARIS congresses (n ¼ 836), reflecting the multiple facets of educational research were analysed. The quantitative treatment of the data, with the assistance of Sphinx software, consisted of univariate (frequencies, percentages) and bi-variate (chi-square statistic) analyses to identify possible significant relations between variables such as the congress, country and sex of author(s), institution, and so on. Findings: The results highlight the commonalties and differences between French and English research about intervention/pedagogy. We notice the continuing expansion of the field of intervention/pedagogy in the Francophone and the Anglophone worlds. But the low participation of the practitioners shows how intricate it is to move educational research closer to everyday practice. The results show that the contexts studied within ARIS are mainly school physical education and teacher's education, then coaching and other contexts. The majority of studies are centred on one component of pedagogy, but rarely on the interactions between the educators and the participants. The Francophone research is essentially descriptive and heuristic, using mostly qualitative methods (interviews and observations). This orientation of Francophone studies towards heuristic research seems to contrast with Anglophone research, even though qualitative research has recently come to dominate. Conclusion: The ARIS researchers have a common object of study (intervention/ pedagogy), share the same ideas and aims, learn how to do it better as they interact regularly and develop a shared repertoire of knowledge, theories and methods. We see here signs of an undeniable wealth of knowledge and the combination of different theories and methods leading to a better understanding of educational phenomena. Climatic cycles as expressed in sediments of the PROMESS1 borehole PRAD1-2, central Adriatic, for the last 370 ka: 1. Integrated stratigraphy - art. no. Q01R01 Auteur(s) : Piva, A Asioli, A Schneider, R Trincardi, F Andersen, N Colmenero Hidalgo, E Dennielou, Bernard Flores, J Éditeur(s) : American Geophysical Union Résumé : [1] A multiproxy integrated chronological framework, based on oxygen and carbon stable isotope stratigraphy, biostratigraphy (foraminifera and nannoplankton bioevents and foraminifer assemblage-based climate cyclicity), magnetostratigraphy, sapropel stratigraphy, and C-14 AMS radiometric dates, has been achieved for borehole PRAD1-2, collected in 185.5 m water depth in the central Adriatic. This work was carried out within the European Community project Profiles across Mediterranean Sedimentary Systems (PROMESS1). The 71.2 m long borehole spans a time interval between late MIS 11 and MIS 1 (the last 370 ka), showing a chronological resolution of 500 and 250 years per cm during interglacial and glacial intervals, respectively. At present, this record is the most expanded and continuous marine record available for the Adriatic Basin. Several orbital cycles can be recognized in the PRAD1-2 record: the 100 ka glacial-interglacial fluctuations and the 23 ka precession-related cycles, which in turn control the deposition of sapropel layers. An integrated analysis of short-term oscillations within the Last Glaciation interval (MIS 4-MIS 2) allowed the identification of the Adriatic signature of Dansgaard-Oeschger events, showing the potential to achieve a more refined chronostratigraphic framework for the top part of the PRAD1-2 record. Finally, the age model obtained by this study allowed the chronological integration of the main foraminifera bioevents detected in the borehole as well as of the volcanoclastic layers present in the upper part of the record. Despite its proximal location, PRAD1-2 presents a continuous record and shows the potential to be consistently correlated both with deep-sea and continental records in the Mediterranean region and beyond.
