Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Elsevier Résumé : International audience Piton des Neiges basaltic volcano (La Réunion) has been deeply dissected by erosion, exposing large volumes of debris avalanche deposits. To shed light on the factors that led to volcano flank destabilizations, we studied the structure, the crystallographic and magnetic fabrics of the substratum of a debris avalanche unit. This substratum is a complex of N50 seaward-dipping sills that has been exposed by the avalanche. Structural observations show that the sill plane in contact with the avalanche is one of the latest intrusions in the sill complex. In this uppermost sill, the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) is correlated to the crystallographic preferred orientation of magmatic silicate minerals, allowing us to use AMS as a proxy to infer the magmatic flow. The AMS fabric across the intrusion is strongly asymmetric, which reveals that the contact sill was emplaced with a normal shear displacement of its hanging wall. The shear displacement and the magma flow in the intrusion are both directed toward the NNE, i.e. toward the sea, which is also the direction of the slope and of the debris avalanche runout. Because all the sills in the intrusion complex have a similar dip and dip direction, it is likely that several of them also underwent a cointrusive slip toward the NNE. We conclude that this cointrusive normal slip, repeated over many intrusions of the sill complex, increased the flank instability of the volcano. This incre-mental instability may have ended up into the observed debris avalanche deposit. At Piton de la Fournaise, the active volcano of La Réunion, sill intrusion and cointrusive flank displacement have been inferred from geophys-ical studies for the April 2007 eruption. By providing direct evidence of sheared sills, our study substantiates the idea that repeated sill intrusions may eventually trigger flank destabilizations in basaltic volcanoes. Evidence of multi-stage faulting by clay mineral analysis: Example in a normal fault zone affecting arkosic sandstones (Annot sandstones) Auteur(s) : Buatier, M. Clays are sensitive to fluid–rock interactions and deformation mechanisms; in this paper, they are used as proxy for fault activity and behavior. The present study focuses on clay mineral assemblages from the Point Vert normal fault zone located in the Annot sandstones, a Priabonian-Rupelian turbidite succession of the Alpine foredeep in SE France. In this area, the Annot sandstones were buried around 6–8 km below the front of Alpine nappes soon after their deposition and exhumed during the middle-late Miocene. The fault affects arkosic sandstone beds alternating with pelitic layers, and displays throw of about thirty meters. The fault core zone comprises intensely foliated sandstones bounding a corridor of gouge about 20 cm thick. The foliated sandstones display clay concentration along S–C structures characterized by dissolution of K-feldspar and their replacement by mica, associated with quartz pressure solution, intense microfracturation and quartz vein precipitation. The gouge is formed by a clayey matrix containing fragments of foliated sandstones and pelites. However, a detailed petrographical investigation suggests complex polyphase deformation processes. Optical and SEM observations show that the clay minerals fraction of all studied rocks (pelites and sandstones from the damage and core zones of the fault) is dominated by white micas and chlorite. These minerals have two different origins: detrital and newly-formed. Detrital micas are identified by their larger shape and their chemical composition with a lower Fe–Mg content than the newly-formed white micas. In the foliated sandstones, newly-formed white micas are concentrated along S–C structures or replace K-feldspar. Both types of newly formed micas display the same chemical composition confirmed microstructural observations suggesting that they formed in the same conditions. They have the following structural formulas: Na0.05 K0.86 (Al 1.77 Fe0.08 Mg0.15) (Si3.22 Al0.78) O10 (OH)2. They are enriched in Fe and Mg compared to the detrital micas. Newly-formed chlorites are associated with micas along the shear planes. According to microprobe analyses, they present the following structural formula: (Al1,48 Fe2,50 Mg1,84) (Si2,82 Al1,18) O10 (OH)8. All these data suggest that these clay minerals are synkinematic and registered the fault activity. In the gouge samples, illite and chlorite are the major clay minerals; smectite is locally present in some samples. In the foliated sandstones, Kubler Index (KI) ((001) XRD peak width at half height) data and thermodynamic calculations from synkinematic chlorite chemistry suggest that the main fault deformation occurred under temperatures around 220 °C (diagenesis to anchizone boundary). KI measured on pelites and sandstones from the hanging and footwall, display similar values coherent with the maximal burial temperature of the Annot sandstones in this area. The gouge samples have a higher KI index, which could be explained by a reactivation of the fault at lower temperatures during the exhumation of the Annot sandstones formation ISSN: 0191-8141 hal-01172423 https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-01172423 DOI : 10.1016/j.jsg.2015.03.012 | Partager |
This article puts the problem of the processes of tourist development at the level of the Senegalese Little-coast and their consequences on the sociocultural and economic background of the local populations. We observed an anarchy occupation of coastal environments, very desired for their tourist and economic interests, while they constitute fragile ecosystems, sensitive to the action of the anthropological agents. This is the way we made at first a current situation to see the stakes at the level of the planning and of the tourist development of the Little-coast. We analyzed then the consequences to propose strategies for a sustainable development by taking into account the peculiarities of the territory at the local, regional and national level in a globalized context. Besides, it is a question in this article of describing and deciphering the relationship, certainly, narrow but extremely feeder between tourism and local development by analyzing how the tourism impacts on the process of development and vice versa. The concept of tourism as a driving force for development has not survived the fall of communism. The end of the Cold War rendered the ideological role of the tourism sector, as a main tool of liberalism, obsolete. Today, the most common setting for the tourism sector is in developing countries, as a tool for development and/or poverty reduction.Morocco, one of the pioneers of liberalism in Africa, has not escaped the consequences of the economic band wagonning among African states, socialists and liberals alike. A driving force for tourism development in the last century (1964), Morocco has recently readjusted its strategy to create an extra sector to contribute to the national economy. "The economic miracle of tourism has not taken place!"(Hillali, 2007). The question is posed: What is more appropriate, identifying failures or engaging in strategic readjustment? In this regard, two initiatives are worth mentioning: - Tourism is an industry that provides jobs and income for the urban (crafts, low-skilled jobs) and rural (cottages, inns, coaching) poor as part of the new strategy of the country’s tourist reception (2003), tourism niches and helping young entrepreneurs. - The National Initiative for Human Development (NIHD), launched in 2004, aims to support those in need in major social and economic policies. However, despite well-planned programs, the results have been mixed. Perhaps it is that the implementation of these new approaches to local development and targeted (operational activities) and evaluation methods that ensure monitoring (measurement of impacts) do not overlap enough. "Lo que el pueblo necesita". Turismo social y Peronismo. Throughout J.D. Peron’s first two terms in office (1946-1955), against the backdrop the so-called “welfare democratization” process, leisure and free time progressively gained momentum. Vacation habits in the middle and working classes became richer thanks to both public policies and civil initiatives. During this period, the National State not only re-adopted previous programs, but it also opened new channels favoring the entrance of the abovementioned sectors into the recreational-activity market. The purpose of this presentation is to analyze some of these policies, highlighting their reception by, and impact on, the middle and working classes. To this end, a methodological exercise will be carried out on the basis of a privileged source: the archives of the “Secretaría Técnica. Primera y Segunda Presidencia del General Juan Domingo Perón (1946 – 1955)”, a collection of documents summarizing the answer –by way of letters– of the populace to the State’s call during the elaboration of the second five-year plan. Structure sismique de la zone de subduction des Petites Antilles : implications sur les dimensions de la zone sismogène interplaque ; Seismic structure of the Lesser Antilles subduction zone : relevance for the extent of the seismogenic zone Auteur(s) : Evain, Mikael Éditeur(s) : Université Nice Sophia Antipolis Résumé : The Lesser Antilles is a case study of a very slow subduction (~2 cm/yr) of an old oceanic lithosphere (~84-100 Ma). The region presents a relatively low seismic activity, especially along the interplate contact, and the seismic hazard associated with a possible mega-thrust earthquake is still poorly known. This PhD thesis is a first step toward assessing the ability of the Lesser Antilles subduction zone to produce such a large subduction event. To do so, it aims at constraining the downdip width of the interplate's seismogenic zone. The lack of coverage of permanent seismological stations is a major limitation in the exploration of the Lesser Antilles subduction zone. It is due to the presence of only small aligned islands at far distances from the potentially seismogenic interplate area. Several oceanographic cruises were therefore planned that notably allowed the repeated deployment of ocean bottom seismometers; some of them being left for a few months of background seismicity recording. This thesis specifically focuses on two sets of wide-angle seismic data acquired offshore the Dominica and Martinique islands. From their analysis 3D and 2D tomographic models were produced respectively over the forearc region and across the whole subduction complex. These models constrain the plates' seismic structure as well as their geometry. They allow the discussion of how the imaged structures affect the subduction processes and give a first estimation of the downdip width of the seimogenic zone, defined as the segment of the interplate between the backstop and the upper plate's Moho. The joint interpretation of seismic models and earthquake localizations then refine this first assessment. Epicenter distribution from height months of seismic recording shows indeed that seismicity concentrates within the inner forearc region. The strong velocity gradient that characterize its basement suggests it is denser and more rigid than the more deformable outer forearc basement. The updip limit of the seismogenic zone could then lie arcward of the backstop at the contact of the interplate and the seaward end of the inner forearc crust. At depth, interplate earthquake mechanisms are observed between 35 and 45 km depth and interpreted to have occurred at the downdip limit of the seismogenic zone. The latter could reach a depth over 10,km deeper than the contact of the upper plate's Moho with the interplate, and therefore lie within the mantle wedge. All together, these results imply a large downdip width of the seismogenic zone (~70 km) offshore the Dominica and Martinique islands. Further work is, however, needed in order to fully comprehend the ability of the Lesser Antilles subduction zone to produce a possible mega-thrust earthquake. This would necessitate the evaluation of seismic coupling at the interplate contact and the possible segmentation of the seismogenic zone, for instance, due to the subduction of oceanic ridges. Regional Management Units for Marine Turtles: A Novel Framework for Prioritizing Conservation and Research across Multiple Scales Auteur(s) : Wallace, Bryan P. Dimatteo, Andrew D. Hurley, Brendan J. Finkbeiner, Elena M. Bolten, Alan B. Chaloupka, Milani Y. Hutchinson, Brian J. Alberto Abreu-grobois, F. Éditeur(s) : Public Library Science Résumé : Background: Resolving threats to widely distributed marine megafauna requires definition of the geographic distributions of both the threats as well as the population unit(s) of interest. In turn, because individual threats can operate on varying spatial scales, their impacts can affect different segments of a population of the same species. Therefore, integration of multiple tools and techniques - including site-based monitoring, genetic analyses, mark-recapture studies and telemetry - can facilitate robust definitions of population segments at multiple biological and spatial scales to address different management and research challenges. Methodology/Principal Findings: To address these issues for marine turtles, we collated all available studies on marine turtle biogeography, including nesting sites, population abundances and trends, population genetics, and satellite telemetry. We georeferenced this information to generate separate layers for nesting sites, genetic stocks, and core distributions of population segments of all marine turtle species. We then spatially integrated this information from fine-to coarse-spatial scales to develop nested envelope models, or Regional Management Units (RMUs), for marine turtles globally. Conclusions/Significance: The RMU framework is a solution to the challenge of how to organize marine turtles into units of protection above the level of nesting populations, but below the level of species, within regional entities that might be on independent evolutionary trajectories. Among many potential applications, RMUs provide a framework for identifying data gaps, assessing high diversity areas for multiple species and genetic stocks, and evaluating conservation status of marine turtles. Furthermore, RMUs allow for identification of geographic barriers to gene flow, and can provide valuable guidance to marine spatial planning initiatives that integrate spatial distributions of protected species and human activities. In addition, the RMU framework - including maps and supporting metadata - will be an iterative, user-driven tool made publicly available in an online application for comments, improvements, download and analysis. Démarche d'amélioration des DCP à la Martinique Auteur(s) : Guillou, Annie Lagin, Alain-sabin Lebeau, Alain Priour, Daniel Repecaud, Michel Reynal, Lionel Sacchi, Jacques Taquet, Marc Éditeur(s) : Pêche thonière et dispositifs de concentration de poissons, Caribbean-Martinique, 15-19 Oct 1999 15-19 octobre 1999 Résumé : Since 1983, the research on the optimal conception of FADs in Martinique was particularly focused on the improvement of their resistance to different maritime or human aggressions. Following several experimentations made with different types of fads, the choice was brought on light devices anchored in 1 500 to 2 000 m depths and an experimental approach was conducted to identify the causes of loss of fads and to attempt to modelize their hydrodynamic behaviour with relation to the sea conditions. Three mathematical models are used to simulate the fad behaviour under current action and swell, and to estimate the forces exerted on each part of the device. The results of this study are presented. The fad design used nowadays for the development of pelagic fishing in Martinique, recommendations for maintenance and preservation of the fads are also proposed. Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins Résumé : International audience BACKGROUND: Addressing vulnerability to heat-related mortality is a necessary step in the development of policies dictated by heat action plans. We aimed to provide a systematic assessment of the epidemiologic evidence regarding vulnerability to heat-related mortality. METHODS: Studies assessing the association between high ambient temperature or heat waves and mortality among different subgroups and published between January 1980 and August 2014 were selected. Estimates of association for all the included subgroups were extracted. We assessed the presence of heterogeneous effects between subgroups conducting Cochran Q tests. We conducted random effect meta-analyses of ratios of relative risks (RRR) for high ambient temperature studies. We performed random effects meta-regression analyses to investigate factors associated with the magnitude of the RRR. RESULTS: Sixty-one studies were included. Using the Cochran Q test, we consistently found evidence of vulnerability for the elderly ages extgreater85 years. We found a pooled RRR of 0.99 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.97, 1.01) for male sex, 1.02 (95% CI = 1.01, 1.03) for age extgreater65 years, 1.04 (95% CI = 1.02, 1.07) for age extgreater75 years, 1.03 (95% CI = 1.01, 1.05) for low individual socioeconomic status (SES), and 1.01 (95% CI = 0.99, 1.02) for low ecologic SES. CONCLUSIONS: We found strongest evidence of heat-related vulnerability for the elderly ages extgreater65 and extgreater75 years and low SES groups (at the individual level). Genetic improvement strategy in small aquaculture industries : the new caledonian shrimp experience Auteur(s) : Goyard, Emmanuel Goarant, Cyrille Brun, Pierre Herlin, Jose Pham, Dominique Beliaeff, Benoit Harache, Yves Loubersac, Lionel Éditeur(s) : PSIC 11 - 11th Pacific Science Inter-Congress : Pacific Countries and their Ocean: Facing Local and Global Changes / 2nd Symposium on French Research in the Pacific. March 2 - 6, 2009 Tahiti, French Polynesia Résumé : Shrimp farming in New Caledonia relies on the culture of a domesticated strain of Litopenaeus stylirostris introduced from Mexico at a time when genetic principles were of little or no consideration. Since then, advances in agriculture and for some aquatic species of importance led caledonian shrimp farmers to reconsider the appropriateness of a genetic improvement strategy adapted to local biotechnical and economical constraints. This questioning involves many different and interrelated aspects: scientific and technologic (genetics, biosecurity, quarantine, ), economic and organizational (financing, diffusion of genetic improvement) and pedagogic (awareness of farmers). Local institutions, producers associations, research centre and sanitary services associated to carry on the test of a first improvement strategy based on the crossing of different strains of L. stylirostris. This conceptually simple approach aimed at eliminating inbreeding, the first genetic limitating factor of improvement in captive populations. A second domesticated strain was obtained from Hawaii by the caledonian farmers, imported through a quarantine under the control of the zoosanitary local authorities, and reproduced and tested as pure or crossbred stocks by Ifremer within the framework of an interdisciplinary research project financed by caledonian institutions. Present results for hybrids (better growth and survival in the absence of virus) demonstrate the validity of this approach. They also bring out the importance to simultaneously integrate in a development scheme, a breeding centre to maintain and reproduce disease free breeders. This strategy and organization, tested in New Caledonia, could possibly be of benefit to other small scale aquaculture activities in the pacific islands. Auteur(s) : Leguerrier, Dephine Éditeur(s) : Université de la Rochelle Résumé : In order to better understand the functioning of the Brouage intertidal mudflat (Marennes- Oléron Basin, France), its carbon-based trophic web has been modelled and analyzed. The foodweb building is based on the 4 step method of Inverse Analysis: 1) conceive an a priori model as the graph of compartments (nodes) between which exist fluxes of material (vertices). These vertices are the unknowns for the problem; 2) gather all the existing knowledge about the ecosystem and translate it into linear equations and inequalities involving the fluxes; 3) complete this set of data by common knowledge on the behaviour of the compartments and translate it into inequalities, 4) solve the obtained linear system under the parsimony principle to find a unique solution vector. The food-web analysis is based on. The first purpose of this work was a methodological one: inverse analysis method has been adapted to consider the seasonal and spatial variability of the temperate ecosystem: two seasons have been coupled in the computation and the area has been divided into three geographical zones along a cross-shore gradient. Hence, two types of physical exchanges are involved: the benthicpelagic ones and the advection ones. Statistical results can also be obtained by coupling Monte Carlo methods to Inverse Analysis. To study the obtained networks, new indices based on Markov Chains take delay into account in describing integrative transfers of material between compartments. This lets emerge the systems' properties that are not obvious at first sight and emphasizes the role of peculiar components. The second purpose was to apply such methods to the Brouage mudflat ecosystem in order to better understand its functioning. As the knowledge and methods evolve, various food webs were computed and analyzed with the help such indices and existing ones. Sensitivity analyses allow to point at the most crucial lacks of knowledge, which can orientate future field research. New data would improve the quality of the model in two ways: one the one hand, they would validate or invalidate the outcomes and on the other hand, they would give useful information to better constrain some of the black boxes and most uncertain fluxes, especially the advection and vertical flows. The main results of the study show a strongly seasonal system in which benthic and pelagic components are linked with intensity. The system is driven by its high local benthic primary production, but also depends on imports from the basin. Each of the 3 geographic zones has a peculiar functioning. The central zone corresponds to the classical description of European intertidal mudflats: very productive, it can feed the other regions. It is a production zone. The upper part is less productive but is fed by the middle one via the water column and can be exploited by shorebirds. It is a degradation zone (material is transformed for less qualitative). The lower part strongly depends on the basin imports for its functioning, as the cultivated bivalves act as a pump for pelagic material of which a great part is deposited under the cultivation structures (oyster racks or mussels "bouchots"). It is a transformation zone. Re-assessing the French small-scale coastal fisheries: from fleet activity to economic performance Auteur(s) : Daures, Fabienne Van Iseghem, Sylvie Demaneche, Sebastien Leblond, Emilie Brigaudeau, Cecile Guyader, Olivier Berthou, Patrick Éditeur(s) : ICES 2008 Annual Science Conference, 22-26 september 2008, HALIFAX, CANADA Résumé : While the majority of small-scale coastal fisheries are found in developing nations, a considerable number exist in developed nations as well. Indeed, small-scale fisheries are strongly represented in all European Union (EU) Member States, 81% and 87% of the EU 25 whole fleet is composed of vessels less than 12 and 15 meters long respectively. In 2000, European regulation established a fisheries data collection framework including economic information requirements in order to provide the scientific basis for the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy. This paper presents the methodology designed to collect the relevant economic data and characterize the status of the French fleets from an economic perspective. Based on stratified sampling plan including the following of small-scale fleets, data collection by field survey is based on a single questionnaire for all the fleets, whatever the size of the vessel, the gear used, the fishing area or the species targeted. It provides a large data set including earnings and costs but also capital, employment, fishing activity figures. Statistical analysis through a revenue model gives the basis for a re-assessing of the small-scale fisheries contribution to national production. Economic indicators such as gross added value, revenues, and direct employment are derived from the data set. The significant role of small scale fisheries in the French fishing sector is established and the impact of the rising fuel costs in fisheries is discussed. The Longitudinal Valley Fault (LVF) is the main seismically active fault zone in this region. However, the spatial distribution of ground deformation due to interseismic loading on locked fault segments remains widely unknown. To address this problem, we use a "permanent scatterer" (PS) interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) approach for processing the ERS satellite archives. The PS mean velocity maps allow accurately mapping and quantifying the ground deformation all along the LV. Assuming that, close to the surface, the fault plane along the central LVF creeping segment dips 55 degrees to the east, we derive a slip vector at the surface of similar to 25 mm/yr with a mean rake of 70 degrees. In agreement with our PS observations, shallow seismicity indicates a clear change in the fault mechanical behavior of the creeping segment around Fuli town. Finally, we propose a combination of the PS velocity fields for estimating a 3-D map of ground deformation. In the southern part of the LV, the vertical component reveals an uplift of the Coastal Range with respect to the LV of similar to 10 mm/yr. Moreover, between Taitung and Luyeh, the vertical deformation is essentially accommodated along the Luyeh Strand. Finally, north of Rueisuei, the Coastal Range uniformly subsides at similar to 15 mm/yr relative to the western side of the LV. However, a local uplift pattern is detected around latitude 23 degrees 42'. ISSN: 0148-0227 hal-00595532 https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-00595532 DOI : 10.1029/2010JB007898 | Partager |
Seismic anisotropy in the eastern United States: Deep structure of a complex continental plate Auteur(s) : Barruol, Guilhem Silver, Paul, Vauchez, A. Auteurs secondaires : Géosciences Montpellier ; Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) - Institut national des sciences de l'Univers (INSU - CNRS) - Université de Montpellier (UM) - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Department of Terrestrial Magnetism [Carnegie Institution] ; Carnegie Institution for Science [Washington] Éditeur(s) : HAL CCSD American Geophysical Union Résumé : International audience We have analyzed shear wave splitting recorded by portable and permanent broadband and long-period stations located in the eastern United States. Teleseismic shear waves (SKS, SKKS, and PKS) were used to retrieve the splitting parameters: the orientation of the fast wave polarization plane ϕ and the delay time δt. In total, 120 seismic events were processed, allowing for more than 600 splitting measurements. Within the Appalachians, stations located in the western (external) part are characterized by δt≈1s and ϕ trending N50°– 70°E in the south and central regions and N30°–40°E in the north, closely following the trend of the orogenic belt in these areas. The transition region between north and central is characterized by δt≈1–1.3 s and by E-W trending ϕ that are at a high angle to the regional geologic trend. Measurements at two stations located in the eastern (internal) part of the belt indicate very weak anisotropy. The large-scale pattern of anisotropy is not consistent with that predicted for simple asthenospheric flow beneath the plate. Splitting along the southern and eastern margins of the continent is consistent with that expected for Grenvillian deformation, an alternative model of asthenospheric flow around the cratonic keel cannot be ruled out. Within the cratonic core, the correlation between δt and lithospheric thickness suggests a lithospheric anisotropy. Smaller-length-scale variations also argue for a significant contribution of lithospheric structures. The fabric responsible for shear wave splitting may have formed during tectonic episodes that affected the eastern United States, i.e., the Grenville and Appalachian orogenies and the subsequent rifting of the North Atlantic Ocean. Our observations in the western Appalachians suggest that the anisotropy may be preserved since the Grenvillian orogeny. The absence of detectable splitting in the two stations in the eastern Appalachians is attributed to the igneous intrusions related to the Atlantic rifting. The measurements in the transition between the northern and central southern Appalachians, constitute an intriguing anomaly, whose E-W ϕ have little obvious relation to the regional surface geology. We suggest two possible causes: (1) the local dominance of asthenospheric flow, motivated by the proximity of a pervasive low-velocity anomaly and (2) lithospheric deformation in a transcontinental strike-slip fault zone active during the Appalachian collision. Our work presented herein aimed to describe the epidemiological, etiological and therapeutic features of the stroke pathology in the Martinican Afro-Caribbean population. In 1998, the first population-based epidemiological study, ERMANCIA I, showed a 40% greater firstever stroke incidence in Martinique compared to those observed in continental France, with a high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes. These results contributed to the creation, in 2003, of the first stroke unit in the Caribbean area. In the 5_year follow-up study, we found that half of the patients had died and that 50% of survivors were affected from vascular dementia (twice compared with continental French cohorts): this figure was probably favored by severe underlying cerebral microangiopathy that amplified the cognitive impact of stroke. We also identified a failure in the secondary prevention in Martinique, certified by nearly 80% of hypertensive patients still insufficiently controlled. As a result, in 2006, we developed a well-structured stroke prevention network. The efficiency of this network was attested by the high rate of good blood pressure control (74% vs. 39%, p=0.01) and the reduced vascular morbidity and mortality rate (8.3% vs. 24%, p <0.001) after a 30-month period of activity, in comparison with control “historic” patients. In 2012, ERMANCIA II study revealed a 30% reduction of first-ever stroke incidence and a reduced mortality rate at 1 month for patients ≤55 years (8% vs. 20%, p = 0.03), compared to these observed in ERMANCIA I, likely due to improvement of primary stroke prevention and the best stroke unit management at the acute phase, respectively. Based on our etiological data, we underline: 1) the relatively high frequency of symptomatic intracranial atherosclerosis, for which we propose a new definition; 2) the clinic-radiological features of stroke in the anterior choroidal artery; 3) the atypical picture of “malignant” multilacunar syndrome. On the other hand, stroke due to sickle cell disease or “trigonocephale” snakebite were only anecdotal. However, we found that carotid-bulb atypical fibromuscular dysplasia (CAFD), a very unusual previously described cause of stroke, could be responsible for up to the third of carotidterritory stroke of so-called undetermined etiology among patients ≤55 years. In addition, the relatively high rate of recurrence under antiplatelet (28% at 14 months), was dramatically reduced by endarterectomy in patients with CAFD. From a therapeutic point of view, our results showed an excess rate of post-thrombolysis symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhages in older patients, a figure probably linked to the severe underlying hypertension-triggered cerebral microangiopathy. Owing to the lack of neurointerventionnal option in Martinique, we tested a new therapeutic strategy in patients with a proximal arterial occlusion not responsive to standard IV thrombolysis, consisting in an additional administration of IV tenecteplase, 0.1mg/kg. Our preliminary results were promising, leading us to plan a randomized study. Finally, most of the characteristics of stroke in this Afro-Caribbean population are probably shared by the majority of black people. Thus, our results could have a universal impact in the understanding of stroke burden in blacks. http://www.theses.fr/2015AGUY0909/document | Partager |

Quaternary turbidite systems on the northern margins of the Balearic Basin (Western Mediterranean): a synthesis Auteur(s) : Droz, Laurence Dos Reis, A. T. Rabineau, Marina Berne, Serge Bellaiche, G Éditeur(s) : Springer Résumé : The Balearic Basin is a young basin composed of thick Plio-Quaternary sediments, including active gravity sedimentation. During the Quaternary, gravity processes deposited (1) turbidite systems, either as symmetrical fans (Petit-Rhone and Valencia fans) or asymmetrical ridges (Marseille-Planier, Grand- Rhone and Pyreneo-Languedocian ridges) and (2) several mass-transport deposits, indicating recurrent sedimentary failures of the margin. This paper synthesizes previous works and proposes a chronological sedimentary evolution for the basin. Except for the last 20 ka, the chronostratigraphy remains poorly constrained but should soon be established for the last 500 ka, based on the PROMESS1 drillings on the outer shelf of the Gulf of Lions, and hopefully for the last 30 Ma, based on ultra-deep drilling in the deep basin from aboard the Chikyu research vessel (IODP proposal Pre699). The notion of the appropriation of languages is defined under the Guyanese context. French Guyana is placed at the junction of Caribbean and South America, that is at the heart of a migration process and new problems which invites reflection on the « living together ». This is to highligth the reality into which someone is anchored, and to present the components of appropriation in this multilingual context. The appropriation of languages is understood as an action – speak – in the making, during an interaction on a scale determined space-time. The problem, according to an interactive and interdisciplinary approach, is based on the relationship between the two components of this work : the field research and the theoretical thought, which is conducted around the notions of appropriation, language, subject and context. The emphasis on the ethnographic and social background leads consequently to a methodology based on comprehension of the contexts components to describe, supports of linguistic practices declared by subjects collected through questionnaires, but especially during interviews. Two attitudes are identified, one of openness and one of withdrawal. The first leads the subject to appropriate the language of his environment : the subject develops a plural identity, he claims as such, and thrives in multilingualism, provided that he’s legitimized into the spheres he refers to. The second is to define the linguistic and cultural community to which the subject belongs, and that he claims identity and legitimity. http://www.theses.fr/2011AGUY0466/document | Partager |
The Lesser Antilles result of the slow westward subduction of the North and South American plate under the Caribbean plate (2 cm / year). At the latitude of the Guadeloupe archipelago and ~ 150 km to the west of the deformation front, the fore-arc basin of Marie-Galante forms a perched basin tilted to the pit and limited to the East by a shoal, the Spur Karukéra. At this latitude, Marie-Galante basin dominates the accretionary prism of Barbados and faces wrinkle Tiburon sweeping the area from North to South from the late Miocene. The sedimentary fill Basin Marie-Galante shows active deformation since at least ~ 30 million years. The aim of the work is to reconstruct the tectono-sedimentary evolution of the basin to provide new constraints on the overall understanding of the frontal subduction zone Lesser Antilles. This work relies on multibeam bathymetry data and high-resolution seismic reflection multi-traces acquired during campaigns KaShallow program. This database, supplemented by lower resolution of previous campaigns seismic profiles, provides a pseudo-3D coverage and four scales of resolution of the entire basin. ROV sampling and targeted core provided 40 samples in the main seismic units. Petrological analysis and biostratigraphic dating allow paleoenvironmental reconstructions from the upper Paleogene up Actuel. Seismic interpretation multiscale shows a sedimentary basin reaching ~ 4,5s double (~ 4500-5625 m) on a substrate pre-structured magma. This basin consists of 5 main sedimentary units (E-1, E1, E2, E3 and E4) divided into 13 units bounded by discontinuities 14 surfaces. The sequential organization of seismic units allows to highlight sequences 10 deposits of third order (S-1 to S9). The biostratigraphic calibration of all sequences able to offer a tectono-sedimentary evolution of the Eocene basin to Present. Thus, we distinguish four normal fault systems associated with three phases of extensions that control the architectural and sedimentary evolution of the basin. 1 / A system N050 ± 10 ° E inherited assets from the upper Paleogene, which controls the overall pelvic tilt towards the SSE. He is responsible for the formation of the escarpment Désirade about 4500 m elevation. The first extension is interpreted as resulting from the fragmentation of the fore-arc in response to the increase in the radius of curvature of subduction. 2 / A system N130 ° -N150 ° E, structuring across the Spur Karukéra, which controls sediment from the Miocene and marks the first phase of transverse extension arc. 3 / A system N160 ° E ° -N180 which segments Basin Marie-Galante in a sub-basin to the west and the Spur Karukéra in the East. This second extension, generally perpendicular to the margin, is accompanied by subsidence and reversing the polarity of the basin in response to his switch to the pit, beginning during the Middle Miocene and is ongoing in the East the basin. This long-term evolution of the forearc, concurrent with the decline in volcanic arc to the west, is considered as resulting from a basal erosion of the top plate. 4 / A system N090 ± 10 ° later E is located in the center of the basin and controlling the development of neritic carbonate platforms on certain blocks heads, such as Marie-Galante. This latest extension, parallel to the arc occurs in the basin from the lower Pliocene. It is superimposed on the expansion plan perpendicular to the fore-arc and is interpreted as the accommodation of the partitioning of deformation in response to the increasing obliquity front subduction north. http://www.theses.fr/2014AGUY0799/document | Partager |
